I like abstract strategy games, many of which I play with my 8-year-old Cameron. I give a preference to games where the rules are simple and naturally create interesting strategic or tactical situations. I enjoy deep strategic games, but, given whom I play with most of the time, I'd rather play several short games than one very long game:-)
Cameron enjoys most any game. He plays any and all abstract strategy games with me and/or his mom. Left to his own devices, he gravitates towards games with a deep theme, wargames with simple rules and space games. Cameron does not like heavy, long german games, so, as a result, we rarely buy any:-) Actually, when he wants to know if the game is something that he won't like, he asks: "is it like Puerto Rico"?
In the future, as time goes on, I will try to write reviews for some of the less known abstract strategy games that we play at home. It looks like this category is a bit of an orphan on BGG...
If you enjoy abstract strategy games, drop me a note! I'd love to find out about fellow gamers with similar tastes and take advantage of their recent discoveries:-)
