Well, I decided to be really good, and waited until Christmas to open the last gift from you. Wow, how cool to get Railways of England and Waies! My hubbie unfortunately just came down with a cold, which combined with my leukemia means we can't sit across the table from each other until he recovers, but we are really looking forward to playin it soon! Thanks so much for an awesome BGG Secret Santa experience from beginning to end!
We arrived home from the hospital tonight, and there was a rather large package from my BGG Secret Santa waiting for me! Wow, when you say 12/20, you mean 12/14! That's fast service! The question is, do I open the cheerfully-wrapped package now, or should it wait for Christmas? Awaiting further instructions,
Great timing! I am hoping to be released from the hospital tomorrow (fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong!) and therefore will hopefully be home when the package arrives! You have been so generous, I hope your elves and Mrs. C are being good to you as well. And I hope you have as wonderful a BGG Secret Santa as I!
I have been doing well with the leukemia treatments; they call me an 'early responder' and have me on a fast track towards stem cell transplant, which will be necessary for a 'cure' in my case (Ph+ ALL). And my brother, another gamer, has tested as a perfect match for the transplant! Things are looking good, except for having leukemia in the first place.
All the best to you, your elves, reindeer, and Mrs. c,
(later on Sunday), Your gifts arrived, and wow! I can't believe there's more to come after all this! Tigris and Euphrates has been on my want list for a long, long time, can't wait to play! Looking forward to trying out Senji, and of course we love PowerGrid so the China/Korea map is excellent. I will post to the proper list soon, but it takes more energy for me to do that right, and I wanted to let you know right away how thrilled I am with my presents! This leukemia thing I'm battling has me really worn out right now, hopefully later in the evening I'll get a little energy boost. Thank you again, and may your reindeer and elves have a wonderful holiday too!
(Sunday) your latest message makes me even more eager to see my package! Dear husband will be bringing that this afternoon, to cheer my exile here. Our exile! Games are a great way to pass the time anywhere! will write again after it arrives.
You are the best Santa ever. I really lucked out this year!
(Saturday) My husband made a trip home today. He says there'a an exciting package for me that must surely be from you (apparently no sender name on the box, but from a game store)! He'll be back tomorrow with it, I can't wait to see what new game we get to play! Thanks for a great pre-Christmas surprise, and doubly nice to have a surprise gift to enjoy while I'm stuck in the hospital! I'll write again after I get to see the package! You're the best BGG Secret Santa ever!
Hi Santa, saw your message this morning (I haven't been on the geek daily, shame on me). Excited that a package is coming! I am in the hospital several hours away for at least the next 3 weeks; but my husband will be making weekly runs home, and a neighbor is bringing in mail every day, so I'm sure my package will be safe. If it's small enough to bring, dh will bring it to the hospital for me to open right away; otherwise I'll be tantalized by his vague descriptions until I get to go home and see for myelf! Thanks again, I'm really looking forward to it!
I have been interested in euro boardgames since I first encountered Settlers of Catan back in 1995. My brother was already attending cons on the west coast, and he introduced me to this and other euros. Our family has played a lot of the crayon rails games, including a ton of email-based games using a program my brother wrote.
I had few opportunities to play games live, though, until I finally hooked up with a local gaming group seven years ago. And then I met my husband and introduced him to the rich world of euro games. We play games every day. At a minimum, we play dice games (in rotation) with breakfast (yahtzee, choice, or farkle), lunch (catan dice, martian dice, pickomino), and dinner (decathlon dice, phase 10 dice, sutakku, can't stop). We like dice for meals because they are compact, won't get wrecked if our hands are a little soiled, and play within the time frame of a meal. But we typically play other games as well, so 2-player games and games that play well with 2 are important for us. We also game at least twice a month with a group of fairly hard-core eurogamers.
Favorite 2-player only games include Starship Catan, Lost Cities, Carcassonne the Castle, Catan Card Game, Perry Rhodan. Other games we love to play with 2 include Race for the Galaxy, Dominion, Roll Through the Ages, Agricola, Iron Dragon, Carcassonne the City, and many, many others. Our game group enjoys a wide variety of games, from heavier fare such as Power Grid, Railroad Tycoon, and Parthenon when we have plenty of time and energy, to Rum and Pirates, Ticket to Ride, Alhambra Dice, Bohnanza, and TransAmerica when we're looking for something lighter and/or quicker.
