Some information about me: I'm a father of two girls, one has studied secondary school and one almost turned to a student in university. Hope that she will find some interested subjects to study at university.
I liked playing board games as a child and as a teen, but there is not too much choices in Hong Kong. The most popular board game in Hong Kong are Monopoly and Hotel. I like playing Chinese Chess. I played it every day during my primary and secondary. I also like playing some war games. Besides the Chinese Lu Zhan Jun Qi and some simple war games, my first war game was Air Force which was published by HK war games club. Because I didn’t have too much pocket money to afford board game, some simple and cheap games became more dominant up to my early eighteen years. Because of workload and homework at college, I decided to leave all that behind me. In university, somebody in my circle of friends always play bridge and board games. By then, I was interested in new-style board games. After going to UK for my post graduate study, I bought Space Hulk, which was my favorite board game, but I can’t find a right partner to play with. In 1995, I’d published my first card game which was called Piggy. The idea was based upon the Heart Bridge. Nowadays, I like making and pnp board and card games for fun.
Now my collection has grown to many, many titles. I found BGG when I wanted to buy Catan in 2000. Because of the blooming of the Internet, I could be researched board games for a bit and could look around a lot of different types of games. I was using an anonymous account until 2009, afterwards I joined the community in person. Now BGG eats up a large chunk of my spare time, I really like it here!
My collection should give you some hints about what I might like. I'm generally interested in very good thematic games. I also complete the collection of the Spiel des Jahres award games. I like playing different types and styles of games. What games do I like? I like games that are memorable. What games give me big emotional moments or having memorable plays, those are good games for me. I give some games; such as Space Hulk, Agricola, Earth Reborn, Mage Knight, Thunderbolt Apache leader, Bruxelles 1893, Sekigahara, Gears of War, Catan, Keyflower and Ticket to Ride with very high ratings, so you may guess my game playing style.
My wife is interested in board games as well, but she likes games which are simple and with easy rules. She also likes playing party and family games.
My older daughter likes playing board games but she didn’t has enough time because of large burden of school activities and assignments. My younger daughter is very smart to play some strategic board games but she didn’t want to lose. I didn't manage to get my younger daughters coming across this difficulty. I hope that she will change as time goes by!
