SANTA

Wishlist sort of up to date. It's a work in progress but I try and keep things in order of how much I want a game, and comments. Some of my 'must haves' are OOP so I don't expect you to be flying all around the world in search of those, I've commented where necessary

Feel free to get in touch with my favourite game store, boardgameguru to see how he can help

Update 19.12.14: I am informed a parcel is delivered today from Syracuse, NY. Seems odd, we have shops in the UK, but then again, who knows. Something to do with Santa, or a red herring?...

Shameless plug

has designed a neat little card game called Amalgimal Zoo. It's unpublished (so far...) but available to order from The Game Crafter if you'd like to check it out

Rules can be found here.

Welcome to the Tom show.

Secret Santa

2013 geeklist item.

I like geeklists:

Why not tell me a little about yourself

Check out what I've been buying this year

I also love board games. They are so very useful laugh

But it's not all about victory points

And sometimes it's not even about the game

Some random games from my collection:

Some random games from my wishlist:

I like light-mid weight euros. Heavy economic games bore me. Contrary to BGG received wisdom, this is not because I'm uneducated, simple or female. It's because for me, playing a game is about having fun, social interaction with family and friends, and basically having a good time, not about spending hours thinking of ways to outwit my opponent - but this is just my preference. I do like tactical games, however, but the fun factor is paramount.

The first microbadge I bought was mb which kind of sums this all up really, and the second was mb. I also like games with a nice theme, although I'm not so bothered about all this 'integration' stuff I read about - after all it's just bits of cardboard at the end of the day, right? Once again, having fun with friends is the most important thing.

Anyway, my Hot 10 is really a list of games from my wishlist that I am looking to get next. It may not work out like that but essentially they are the ones high on the list; the others can wait a bit.

mb I was the 30th Love-Spreader of the Week
mbAnd the 271st Geek of the Week

I also design microbadges sometimes. Want one?

Overwhelming vote for the original. I really wasn't sure, but the choice was forced on me in the end - my brother had Ra and wanted to trade so I bought it off him.

Two truths and a lie:

Poll
Which ONE of the following statements about me is FALSE?
I was once whipped by a naked ex- Soviet Olympic wrestler.
One of my relatives is the Disney character Pocahontas.
In 2000 I was made an honorary prince of the Gonja tribe of central Ghana.

I always planned to reveal the answers when I got to 100 responses. I guess being GotW has bumped the rate up a bit, so one more and the lie will be revealed!

Shhh!

Ok, #1 is true. In 1999 I went to Russia with a charity to help out on some kids camps and see the work they were doing with heroin addicts in St Petersburg. During the trip we visited a Banya - a Russian sauna that got up to about 90 degrees celsius apparently. In any case, we a) went in single sex, b) stark bollock naked and c) couldn't stay more than about 4 mins before having to rush out and pour a bucket of cold water over ourselves.

Anyway two experiences were quite memorable: a Russian Military 'massage' that felt more like neck-breaking and a 'cleansing' session where we went in one by one and got whipped and scraped with birch leaves by a little guy from Georgia who had once been in the Soviet Olympic wrestling team. I have to say though, I have never felt so clean as I did after taht afternoon in the Banya!

#2 is actually true, believe it or not!

Pocahontas married an English guy and my grandfather on my mother's side has traced his family tree back to him, so I am related by marriage.

#3 is the lie. In 2001 I did indeed travel to Ghana and did some music research and recording with the Gonja but I wasn't made an honorary Prince, sadly!

Ghana is a beautiful country and I would recommend it to anyone.

I love Scrabble, and I also love Calvin & Hobbes:

(of course, the most annoying thing about this image is the fact that 'be' could never score just 2 points. Very frustrating attention to detail. Actually, Stelio pointed out it would be possible if the B was played as a blank. D'oh! Hangs head in shame...

**Also, kudos to Scott for mentioning the wider problem of illegal placement of the two big words:

zygomorphIc
Nucleoplasm

Although the 'cu' does depend whether there was anything else was in play above or below, the words are too long to play anyway.

(This bit is just for me)
