I have always liked playing games. I used to play checkers with my grandfather until I got good enough to win (then he wouldn't play with me any more). I grew up playing Risk, Stratego, Phase 10, and other mass-market games. I played competitive chess in high school. Eventually I started playing such classics as Acquire and Talisman. The game that really affected me was Settlers of Catan. I loved it! I would play it several times per week, whenever I could get others to play with me. My college roommate liked it too so we stayed up late many nights playing. I played that game for several years at least weekly, along with the Seafarers and Cities & Knights expansions. Eventually I discovered other games I currently enjoy, such as Ticket to Ride, Power Grid, and Railroad Tycoon. My first introduction to a game convention was Gencon in 2006. I now participate in the Games Club of Maryland when I can and attend Game Days, Euroquest, and Congress of Gamers. I also enjoy math trades and have organized some math trades for local events.
Update 2012-07-16: I created a new avatar based on one of my all-time favorite video games, Boulderdash, which I played on my ancient Atari 8-bit computers.
