Welcome to my profile and I hope your enjoy the visit.

Cheers,
Andy

After 20+ plus years being AWOL from gaming and war-games in particular, I buddy of mine started inviting me to game nights at his house. Soon afterwards, I started buying those games and introducing my family. First up was Dominion along with two expansion packs(Dominion: Prosperity & Dominion: Intrigue). Then came

Isla Dorada, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Ticket to Ride: Europe and followed by 7 Wonders with 7 Wonders: Leaders.

My kids and their friends enjoyed the games, but my wife would standoff at a distance and watch. She would play, but reluctantly. As for my collection, it pales in comparison to my buddy’s, over 227!

By November, we were having weekly game nights and once a quarter an All-Day event at the local Boys & Girls Club. My wife would go to her evening Acting classes while I would hang out with our group of gamers.

Then BGGCON 2011 rolled into Dallas and I was fortunately able to get a ticket from one of the guys in our group who just got married and couldn’t attend. So, a small band of players from our game group and I attended the event. And what a whirlwind it was! After checking in and taking in the sights, I ventured in to the Wargames room. My first game was World at War: Blood and Bridges - I was hooked! We tried new games, games from the vendor’s area, and everything under the sun. I bought one game from the Flea Market, two from AEG vender plus an expansion pack and another game from the Store.

Upon returning home from BGGCON, I found that there was a very small band of wargamers within our gaming group and played the game I purchased from the Flea Market - Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition. That started my return back to those games I played in college; Afrika Korps, Panzer Leader, and Richthofen's War. After checking the with World at War community, I received World at War: The Untold Stories version for Christmas. I have been playing it since!

My Top 10 are my wargames, although I’ve focused for the moment on the Cold War era, I’d love to see what holds in store for the American Revolutionary & American Civil War time period!

I would like to thank my geekbuddies:

mb Name: Freebird
mb Race: Bomber Crewdog.
mb Origin of my username: Given to me by my squadron brothers in arms, because at times when we were airborne I would sport a red bandana, had a mustache & glasses, and resembled member of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band
mb Birthday: Scorpio, November 21
mb Occupation: Retired from the US Air Force as a Major in 2006 with over 4100 hours of flying time in the B-52Gs & Hs, EC-135 ARIA, T-43s and T-37s, over 23 years - 3 months - 11 days but who’s counting. I currently working as a Defense Contractor in the B-52 Simulator as their Mission Development Lead Engineer
mb Languages: English, a bit German that’s pretty rusty that I learned in high school - Kaiserslautern American High School, Germany.
mb Religion: Christian - Not necessary a Baptist, Methodist or Lutheran but the stand on the Word of God as presented in the Bible (King James version)
mb Hobbies: Plastic Scale Models (military aircraft and armor) board games, travelling, visiting National Parks, amateur Military Historian (mainly the B-52 aircraft), and avid duck hunter - but that’s a sport.
mb Authors and Books: First and foremost - the Bible, Clive Cussler, Michael Shaara & son Jeff ("The Killer Angels", “Gods and Generals", “Last Full Measure", etc), Stephen H Ambrose and his historical fiction & non-fiction books on military subjects ("Band of Brothers", "Citizen Soldoers", etc) Louis L’Amour westerns
mb Music: I grow up on Country; Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, Conway Twitty, Porter Wagner, Patsy Cline, and the like. True, I like the new generation of Country singers, but I don’t like all the glitter & showmanship that hides the lyrics of the song.
mb Movies: Dr Strangelove, 12 O’clock High, Patton, The Longest Day, Tuskegee Airman (you guessed it mainly war films). However, I do venture into others such as V for Vendetta, How to Train Your Dragon - good drama, good action, good animation, not into horror, and sorry not much into chick flicks but have been known to attend a few
mb Actors: John Wayne, the Duke, Clint Eastwood, Sam Elliot, Gregory Peck, Mark Wahlberg
mb TV Shows: NCIS, CSI - NY, The Closer, Food Network, History Channel, Lie to me
mb Food: meat & potatoes, pasta, mushrooms, cheese, sauerkraut & bratwurst, pomp frits (German French fries), and a very good German wine (Spätlese, Auslese, Beerenauselese, Eiswein and Trockenbeerenauslese)
mb Animals: The Rino!!!, dogs - Golden Retrievers & Beagles
mb Sports: archery, trap & skeet, deer & duck hunting!
mb Favorite Teams: Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Steelers & Baltimore Colts (yea I know they’re now the Indianapolis, but...)
mb Political Views: Conservative baby!
mb Likes: BGG, the open range and the Big Skies of Montana, sitting on a mountain side watching the sunrise and hoping to see an elk in my cross-hairs or a watering hole waiting on ducks!
