Welcome to my profile and I hope your enjoy the visit.
After 20+ plus years being AWOL from gaming and war-games in particular, I buddy of mine started inviting me to game nights at his house. Soon afterwards, I started buying those games and introducing my family. First up was Dominion
along with two expansion packs(Dominion: Prosperity
& Dominion: Intrigue
). Then came Isla Dorada
, Betrayal at House on the Hill
, Ticket to Ride: Europe
and followed by 7 Wonders
with 7 Wonders: Leaders
My kids and their friends enjoyed the games, but my wife would standoff at a distance and watch. She would play, but reluctantly. As for my collection, it pales in comparison to my buddy’s, over 227!
By November, we were having weekly game nights and once a quarter an All-Day event at the local Boys & Girls Club. My wife would go to her evening Acting classes while I would hang out with our group of gamers.
Then BGGCON 2011 rolled into Dallas and I was fortunately able to get a ticket from one of the guys in our group who just got married and couldn’t attend. So, a small band of players from our game group and I attended the event. And what a whirlwind it was! After checking in and taking in the sights, I ventured in to the Wargames room. My first game was World at War: Blood and Bridges - I was hooked! We tried new games, games from the vendor’s area, and everything under the sun. I bought one game from the Flea Market, two from AEG vender plus an expansion pack and another game from the Store.
Upon returning home from BGGCON, I found that there was a very small band of wargamers within our gaming group and played the game I purchased from the Flea Market - Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
. That started my return back to those games I played in college; Afrika Korps
, Panzer Leader
, and Richthofen's War
. After checking the with World at War community, I received World at War: The Untold Stories
version for Christmas. I have been playing it since!
My Top 10 are my wargames, although I’ve focused for the moment on the Cold War era, I’d love to see what holds in store for the American Revolutionary & American Civil War time period!
I would like to thank my geekbuddies:
Crayz Ivan - starting my journey back into playing games and making me a junkie!
Gordo & Jonathan - for the wargames - “fights on!"
John - that mystical ticket to attend BGGCON 2011!
