A gaming geek. A gaming geek that has devolved from consoles and PC gaming to the low-tech world of board games. I've sunk so low that I've actually spent the cash on the treasure chest edition of Settlers, a game that I'll pass down to my son. As you can see below, I'm starting the geekification early:
That's him at 3 days old. That week in the hospital aged me 3 years...
Anyway, in the last few months, I've taken to cataloging all my games and I've hit over 300. Holy crap. I just love collecting them when I find them and although I haven't played every one, all it takes is something like a friend at a game night to yell "Hell yeah! Uncle Wiggly!" and the box is open on the table in 4 seconds. And this is without inebriation, so that says a lot about me and my friends sometimes.
I'm also a computer geek. I build them, work on them, play on them, and am free to offer advice about the same.
I currently work for the Xenia Community School district in Xenia, Ohio as a computer tech/network admin and help run the high school Gamer's Club. The kids will play anything and with the help of the chief of the group, we've managed to light a fire for euros and other games not sold at Wal-Mart. We've also started to playtest games with the club. I feel this gives some of them some idea on how games are made, what changes go in to making a finished product from the playtest state, and may even foster ideas for games of their own.
What was that saying? The geek shall inherit the Earth?
