Phlebas the Phoenician, a fortnight dead,
Forgot the cry of gulls, and the deep seas swell
And the profit and loss.
A current under sea
Picked his bones in whispers. As he rose and fell
He passed the stages of his age and youth
Entering the whirlpool.
Gentile or Jew
O you who turn the wheel and look to windward,
Consider Phlebas, who was once handsome and tall as you.
T.S. Eliot, "The Waste Land" 1922
My name is Walter. I work in a certain segment of the economy, I'm married and have a family of 4.
Designer, Itty Bitty Battles, Le Grand Cirque, No Man's Land, Big Danged Boats, The Magi, and other things. Just for fun, I don't publish games commercially or anything.
I like historical conflict simulations and wargames (there is a distinction). Modern hipsters might say I'm addicted to "Ameritrash" style designs. I guess that's right.
I've been playing boardgames, miniatures and RPGs for many years-- I was around at the time when boardgaming and the internet started to move in the same circles-- in the early years of Listservs, to User Groups, websites, CSW, and eventually I found myself here. I love playing with social media.
I'm opinionated, and I've been "wired" since there was an internet, so you can probably find remnants of me in the archives all over. I had a Geocities page, and Bravehost page, and have commented on USENET, etc. I've been blogging forever, really-- first Xanga, then Blogger.com, now Wordpress.com. Okay, since 2004. That's a long time on the internet.http://misternizz.wordpress.com
feeds most of my desire to express myself-- I enjoy blogging, but I'm not very disciplined about it. I could never just write one about boardgames, for instance. That would get dull fast.
I'm a ravenous collector and player of tiny games-- was were microgames back in the past and appear to be back in vogue now. I did a tribute page, here: http://misternizz.wordpress.com/metagaming-index/
Soft of as a tangential activity I started converting rules for miniatures and board games to epub format, since I'm a big fan of digital readers. You can find that stuff here: http://misternizz.wordpress.com/digital-rules/
Other than that, I'm happily married, I get out to a gaming group from time to time, and play with my family and run games that I design at conventions. A fairly well adjusted guy!
