I've always loved card and board games. When I was a kid, my sister and I used to play games together until all hours of the night - war, rummy, monopoly, etc. In the early to mid 1990s, I bought two games at a specialty game store - Rail Baron and Acquire. I absolutely loved them. They were a welcome change to the "normal" luck-based and brain-dead games I had played all of those years. Unfortunately, I had trouble finding others who enjoyed playing games as much as I did and had two children around the same time. So, I eventually lost track of those types of games, spending my time playing kiddie games with my two children. In 2003, I taught myself bridge and got pretty good at it, playing on line. It became an obsession. I remembered Rail Baron and Acquire and wondered what was out there now in the way of board games. A search online gave me boardgamegeek.com - the jackpot. Now, I've been growing my collection and enjoy playing with my family and friends. I've been attending a local games group, which is a blast. I think for me gaming has always been an intellectual thing - I like the stimulation and challenge. I will never turn down a game - any game (well maybe not Monopoly). It's just plain fun for me. The Hot 10 are the games in rank order that I want now. As of 2011, I will not be logging all my games. I am only going to log new games I've never played before to keep track of them all.
About my avatar: Every American owes a debt of gratitude to George Washington, without a doubt the greatest American ever to live. He was a brave, humble, wise and honest man - a natural leader and the most respected and trusted man of his time. If it hadn't been for George Washington, there wouldn't be a United States as we now know it.
