Played Battletech when it was only Inner Sphere mechs and Houses. Lost interest when the Omnimech was introduced and the clans returned. Still enjoyed Car Wars for tabletop minis.
Discovered Magic the Gathering, played and collected from Antiquities to Ice Age, then sold the collection. Started and stopped a few times (most recently with Odyssey Block). Never agreed with the block rotation forcing constant purchasing of cards.
Started collecting board/card/box games for the social aspect. Became a demo monkey for Cheapass Games. Found the rest of the board game industry via Origins, Gencon and DragonCon. There are so many different themes, different goals and levels of complexity in box games. Tend toward games that involve people until the end, and on all the players turns (read: euros). Also like that most box games come complete to play without each person having to provide something to make the game 'complete'.
Ended a long break from miniatures and started playing Heroclix. Tried Mechwarrior clicky game until it became Artillery Warrior. Ran events for Wizkids as a Heroclix Judge until they announced Set Rotation - see Magic above. Stopped playing Clicky games just as they were introducing bystander tokens bringing it back to 1980s cardboard tech.
Back to board/card/box gaming now. Recently moved from AL to TX to AZ. Had to pack/ship/store/unpack all my games. I gutted my collection here and I am re building and re rating all the games. I intend to keep only the ones I enjoy playing. the rest will be sold/traded/donated.
Here is my 10 pt scale for rating games.
