Though I have been playing games with my parents and sibling since the early too mid 1960's, I truly became a GAMER in 1972 (
) when my older brother brought home Avalon Hill
's Richthofen's War
and The Game of France, 1940: German Blitzkrieg in the West
. We spent many hours beating on our opposing forces. My greatest moment was beating him at The Game of France, 1940: German Blitzkrieg in the West
, he would always take the Germans and give me the French and British. I figured out he was over extending his lines and cut his supplies ...VICTORY WAS MINE!... From here we would play many Avalon Hill
games till we had to go to bed. Through the High School years, as my brother was off to collage, I drifted from gaming. I acquired a new game here and there, but never delved into the hobby like before.
In the Mid '80s I married my high school sweetheart and we move to a new town within the state for work. I found myself working with an avid gamer who took me to a game shop. I picked up B-17: Queen of the Skies
and Up Front
and the addiction began anew. A few years later I made the mistake of buying a Citadel figure pack just to paint up some cool looking minis. Well that blossomed (exploded) into a full blown army or two, or three or... well you get the idea. I have ventured first into Space Hulk
then to Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
. Over the years my boys and I have played a few different miniature games. The games we like best are, BattleTech
, Warmachine Prime
and Pirates of the Spanish Main
. My older boy has now concentrated on WH:40K up at collage and the younger boy is wrapped up in video games. I have now gravitated back to the board games.
Since my collage days I have developed a LOVE for History. It first started with a keen interest in the Great War (WW1) and a new found interest in Vikings. So I gobbled up books, models and games on the two subjects. Then, around 2005, I found myself drifting towards World War Two aviation history, as my father was a cadet in the Army Air Force at the end of the conflict in Europe, it was just natural. Then it hit me, I have a game in the closet that simulates what my farther was training to do, B-17: Queen of the Skies
. I dragged this baby out and started playing again and searching the web for information and/or variants. Well I found no less than four PBeM games that I could get into. So I did! Well one thing lead to another and now I have been running a Play-by-Forum B-17 campaign for the past few years, started by lionrampent
. We have started a sixth campaign with a great following to boot. I still get in a few solitaire games here and there. But don't have a local group to play multi player games anymore.
Recently I have reconnected with my friend from work and we hope to get together every so often to push some chits around. I hope to breakout Combat Commander: Europe
or Combat Commander: Pacific
, this game series is a cross of Ambush!
, Up Front
and Squad Leader
with a card driven system for fog of war. I have played CC:E/M/P solo many times and would love to have a Face-to-Face experience too. Other games I love are Up Front
, Wings of War: Famous Aces
, Ace of Aces: Handy Rotary Series
and Space Hulk
. I am currently in an effort to make my Space Hulk
3D with an Aliens theme. I'm using WizKids Games HorrorClix
Aliens / Predator range.
Well that is about it for my Gaming history, Thank you for exploring my Bio and enjoy the Geek! Now get back to gaming my friend!
Gods Blessing to you,
