I was introduced to board games innocently (at least it seemed innocent at the time) by my daughter and son-in-law. They invited my wife and me to join them at a friend's house for board game night. I was taught Settlers of Catan while my wife learned Hoity Toity. I loved the game and eagerly Googled it when we got home. Most of the hits led me to BGG where I discovered a vast and dizzying world of modern board games. It didn't take long to learn my way around the various features. Once I discovered the forums/reviews and images I started shopping and collecting games. Tom Vasel's reviews led to way too many new games but I couldn't get enough. So I got too many.
I'm now the guy who runs game nights for our friends. I have brought a couple friends into the hobby.
Update 1/8/12: We now have a game group at the public library. Join us the 2nd Thursday of the month at the Athens Public Library from 5-8 PM.
Beer goes well with games and also comes in many flavors, so I started a guild about it. BEER AND BREWS
I recently graduated from lagers to IPA. My go-to beer is Three Frogs by Elevator Brewing. I measure all others beers by this standard.
