Like many here, I've been a gamer since I was a kid. Growing up in a family of gamers. The seventies were my gaming golden years. I have wonderful memories of gaming at the cabin every summer. Then, in the eighties, I suffered a gaming dry spell. Later, we did puzzles in college, but I had fallen away from gaming for lack of good games available.
Then one magical day (two decades later), I googled Board Games and found the Geek. I had seen Carcassonne on the shelf at Toys-R-Us but figured it was going to be too heavy for my tastes so didn't pick it up for a long time. (Idiot) I ended up buying a copy of Dragonland (because I'm a sucker for Dragons) and hauled it to Key West for Christmas vacation one year. Once we figured out the game instructions, we played it over and over and over. I was hooked...again. Then, we joined a couple board game clubs after realizing how hard it was to get our extended family and friends to understand the joy of gaming.
My usual gaming opponents are my husband (quasi-gamer) and my daughter, so we mostly enjoy medium weight eurogames. Lately I've been exploring some deeper games and have enjoyed them as well. For me, gaming is about the gamers more than the games. Making new friends, laughing, spending quality time with people. I find Analysis Paralysis and cut throat (screw your neighbor) competition annoying. Abstracts with pure strategy turn me on. I'm also a bit buff. I love
colorful games with clickety bits.
Thanks for visiting my profile and Happy gaming!
