When BGG passed the 1,000,000 user milestone, it occurred to me that since my user ID is 50 (yes, 50!), I should add more here, so here it is!
I like to play games. Just about any kind of game will do. I am particularly fond of Eurogames and trick-taking card games. My friends, when talking about whether or not I'll like a game often say something like "It's a GAME. Of course he'll like it!" I do have standards, but I will give any game a shot.
From a young age, I played chess, checkers, cribbage, Scrabble, Anagrams, and many games with a standard deck of cards. My best memory of games when I was young is playing cribbage with my dad. As I got older, I played Risk and a few 3M bookshelf games. In high school, it was Five-Hundred and Dungeons and Dragons. Just before and during college, I finally found the more-complicated board games I had been looking for. I played a LOT of Civilization, Advanced Civilization, Stellar Conquest, and Titan. I also picked up Euchre - unavoidable when you go to college in Wisconsin.
After college, I didn't play nearly enough games for a few years. My wife and I did play Empire Builder enough to wear it out. We also liked card games like cribbage, Mhing and, later, Canasta Caliente. I didn't completely miss out - computer and console games were an exploding new hobby.
In 1995, I discovered Adel Verpflichtet and Settlers of Catan. I had no one to play either with, but I bought them anyway. It would be three years later, in 1998, that I'd finally get to play them. I found a board game night at a local game store. I was in heaven! In addition to Settlers of Catan, I got to play such gems as Tikal, Medici, and Tigris & Euphrates (my favorite game of all time). It has been non-stop games, games, games since then.
