I Started playing games in my teens and was an avid Avalon Hill gamer for many years. I've always been heavy into wargames with games like Britannia (Love the new Fantasy Flight edition), Fortress America, Axis and Allies and Civilization being a few favorites in my high school and college days. These days I find myself really enjoying the games of GMT, MMP and Fantasy Flight. I'm especially hooked on the card driven wargames which are great for history buffs like myself. I also enjoy block games and more recently have been enjoying the area impulse games.
I'm a big fan of the work of artist Don Troiani. Above is one of my favorite of his paintings called the Iron Brigade of which a signed print hangs in my home along with several other works of his. It features the 24th Michingan at Gettysburg on July 1st 1863. Below is another favorite called Cemetery Hill featuring Winfield Hancock on Cemetery Hill Gettysburg also on July 1st.
As you can see I have an ardent interest in history, especially the American Civil War. In general I will play any Civil War game once. The history of the Battle of Gettysburg and the Army of the Potomac are of a particular interest to me and I have read countless books on the topic. I enjoy visiting Civil War battlefields around the country when I can and my civil war book collection outnumbers my game collection by a good amount.
Other eras I also enjoy are the manned space programs of the 1960s, the golden era of polar exploration, the Italian Renaissance, Medieval Britain as well as Britain and America in the 19th and early 20th centuries. My favorite games tend to have strong historical themes and I generally dislike abstract games.
While in my heart I'm a wargamer I do also enjoy Ameritrash and to some extent euros. Ra and Agricola are two euros I enjoy greatly even though they are not my normal cup of tea. In terms of Ameritrash I'm a big fan of the games of Fantasy Flight and designers Kevin Wilson, Corey Konieczka and Eric Lang.
