I'm a ColdFusion programmer for a "small" company which provides job listings for positions in the field of Higher Education, both adminstrative and Faculty. I'm the lead developer and Project Manager and essentially oversee most of the changes that occur on our flagship website, HigherEdJobs.com.
I was introduced to gaming very early on in my childhood. As far back as I can remember I was playing games of one kind or another with my parents or my grandparents. We would have family game nights where we broke out the board games, but more often than not it was simply a pack of cards.
I got heavily into CCGs when they first showed up, mostly because of the idea of customizing a deck of cards. The concept was so rich with possibility. I still like the occasional CCG, but I've grown up enough to avoid the money-sink that often accompanies them.
I rediscovered the joys of board games with a rather impulse purchase of Carcassonne at a game stand in the mall when everything was 50% off. Since that introduction, I have jumped head-first into this hobby and I just love games of just about any type. I've learned to be able to appreciate games for what they are, not what they aren't. Massively random games with little chance for strategy are fine with me as long as that's what we're in the mood to play.
My wife is not much of a gamer (but she tries) so we play a lot of lighter games or gateway games. Carcassonne is a definite favorite of ours, as well as Lost Cities (which we got because of the reviews here). We'll also get together with some friends and play slightly deeper games, but they never go too heavy. Most of my hardcore-gaming fix is taken care of with occasional weekend visits to one of my friends' houses, or the yearly pilgramage to WBC.
I play Tichu over lunch at work almost daily, am involved in a play-by-email game of Speed Circuit, and meet weekly to play Call of Cthulhu LCG, with the same group of people that I've been playing that game with since 2005.
I was the 2006 World Champion of Call of Cthulhu CCG, placing in the top 8 the year before and the year after. I never had quite the success in any of my other competitive games, but then again there were no other CCGs I ever got into quite as much as that one.
