Nov. 22th 2014About Me
: I am well known for liking thematic "light" to "medium" weight games such as Clue!, Ticket to Ride, Mystery of the Abbey, Sheriff of Nottingham, Escape!, Scotland Yard etc. I used to write and serve as the Wednesday feature columnist for Boardgame News, before it was acquired by BGG. I had written for Gamefest and The Games Journal prior to joining BGN. My primary interest in writing centered around boardgames for the mass market as opposed to more niche "hobby" games. I have about 35 regular games in my collection and have been involved with boardgames for approximately ten years now.
I am about getting friends together who are fun and outgoing... and great food and conversation are the intangibles that make for an engaging evening playing boardgames with friends. As such, I am always looking for games that I feel have the broadest possible appeal for both the boys and girls. A good mix of both is imperative for a great game night. My Gaming Motto
: A fun game starts with fun people. My Gaming Rules of Thumb
: Games are not the reason; only the medium.
The best games are social; not a puzzle.
Just play six. All games should be designed to play with at least six players. Think about it.
I do have another boardgaming side... which has roots in my love of history. My "hot" list (the "Hot 10"), is mostly a reflection of my acquired interest in Milton Bradley's "Gamemaster" Series. Most of the time, my "hot 10" games sit on the shelf because of lack of time to play them.
I keep my own blog site, which probably needs some updating, with pictures and you can find that in the links listed below.www.rdbret.blogspot.com
