Born and bred in the city of Leicester in the Midlands of England. The county that is world famous for its Red Leicester cheese, Melton Mowbray Pork Pies and of course Walkers crisps. For my sins I am a Leicester City supporter and a big fan of the Green Bay Packers from the early 80s when they started showing gridiron on tv in the U.K.
I originally started miniatures wargaming in the early 70s with the ubiquitous Airfix plastic figures and Donald Featherstone books and eventually I gradually drifted into original D&D in the late 70s.
The core basics of wargaming were my staples; Napoleonic, World War 2, and Ancients, I have recently got the figure-gaming bug back with Field of Glory Ancients.
I have always had a passion for WW2 naval warfare as my late father served in the Royal Navy during the war.
I have been a member of the Leicester Wargames Society for well over 30 years now, I originally started with figure gaming, as I stated earlier, but over the last 10-12 years or so, a close knit group of us have moved more into board games of all genres.
Formula De was probably the one game that started the boardgame ball rolling. For my sins I have the orignal game, all 15 original tracks plus the 2nd version and all 30+ tracks that came with that. Bug and truly bitten comes to mind! can`t seem to like the current stuff though??.
Other games that have been played and are still played consistently, include Memoir 44, Comands & Colours and RoboRally (a real fave of mine).
Between us we have well over 500 games with a very very broad palette of Ameritrash, Euro, Abstract, Wargames and Card based games.
I particularly enjoy tile layers and 3 of my personal favourites are Carcassonne, Metro and Infinite City.
I also have a huge passion for Subbuteo Table Soccer and all things Subbuteo.
I have either played or collected it for over 40 years in most of its various forms. Included in this list would be Subbuteo Table Cricket, seriously the best of the three and Table Rugby which never really hit the heights of the other two.
For my sins I appeared on the U.K. tv show Collectors Lot with my collection back in the late 90s. I have since sold off over 90% of my collection, Ebay and auction prices of some of the items made it sensible to cash in!!.
My 8 year old daughter now has the gaming bug big time and owns several titles which are shown in my list (Gulo Gulo, Hey Thats My Fish, Zooloretto etc) she is always keen to get and try new fun games especially anything with animals. Her reading ability is that of a teenager so card games etc are a lot of fun with her. Although she is getting quite good at working out her own strategies now!. She has all of the Rorys Story Cubes which she has great fun with. Story builders like Braggart and Once upon a Time have interested her when we visit our FLGS.
