Avid boardgamer since 1996 (Got hooked by Settlers of Catan at a con after a Magic tournament late one night.)
Favorites include Settlers, Princes of Florence, La Citta, Puerto Rico, Princes of the Renaissance, Attika, Ghost Stories, Pandemic, Innovation, Eclipse, King of Tokyo, Steam, Race for the Galaxy, and whatever game is newest on my shelf. I tend to like the more complex end of the German spectrum, games that give you lots of strategic options. I like games that have enough theme that you feel like you are building your empire or moving your armies, rather than just trying to collect blue cubes or something. Also, I like games with just enough luck to vary how the game plays each time.
I'm the proud father of two young gamers, Ben(10) and Drew(7). Ben is obsessed with Magic and also likes Octopus' Garden and most any fantasy board game. Drew will play most anything with me and really likes Lord of the Rings: the Confrontation (although his first choice would be football, basketball, or soccer).
I really like Magic: the Gathering but went about 7 years without playing when the boys were little (no time) but now that they are big enough to play they both enjoy it and we have gone to some local tournaments. The boys are always the youngest players there. Ben is obsessed with it although Drew has gotten a little tired of it.
Professionally, I am a research meteorologist for NASA in Huntsville, Alabama working on numerical modeling, remote sensing, and data assimilation. I went to school at Auburn and Texas A&M and also lived in the Monterey, California area before returning to my home state of Alabama.
I also like juggling, reading (mostly fantasy, some science fiction and nonfiction), genealogy, and an eclectic selection of music.
