Growing up I always enjoyed puzzle games and even played just a bit of Star Wars D&D in high school. I never knew how interesting board games could be until I met a friend in my fraternity at UCLA who had a family member who worked for a board game company and had given him games like Fluxx, Bang, Ticket to Ride, and Carcassonne. That was 2006 and I slowly descended further into the board game hobby from there.
I got on BGG for the first time in late 2007, I believe, and have since grown more and more addicted into searching for more varied games to have a well rounded collection. I love the discovery of new-to-me-games. I try to strike a balance between hunting for the next game changer (like Dominion, Space Alert, Race for the Galaxy, Five Tribes, Alchemists, and Steampunk Rally have all been) that is just such a new concept or so incredibly fun, with making sure there are no games in my collection in wouldn't want to play on most any given night. I also value gateway games and others to bring new gamers further down the rabbit hole as I am pretty much always convertingn gamers.
I most often play games with my wife. Being in the military has meant moving around, which makes it a bit harder to tap into regular game groups. I convert friends in the workplace, and try to find local groups on meetup.com but having two little ones also makes it difficult to have a regular game group outside of me and my wife. We like fairly non-confrontational medium weight games.
