I was born in Scotland, but have lived in Australia since 1996. Got back into the Boardgaming hobby through the Settlers of Catan portal back in 2005 and discovered BGG around the same time.
I used to game frequently with my sons, but thay have now grown up and left home. However, they still indulge their father when they come home.
My board gaming tastes are pretty broad; enjoying abstracts, Euros and (some) lighter war games. I am always on the lookout for something different and innovative - both in gameplay and theme - even if it isnt too polished. Increasingly I enjoy Euro games with simple rule sets but elegant design. The complex point salad game of Feld are not for me. Minis and fantasy are also step too far for me. My favourite designers include Martin Wallace, Reiner Knizia, Michael Schacht and Leo Colovini.
When not working or playing games, I enjoying playing the guitar or barracking for my local (Australian rules) footy team; the Sydney Swans.

Dear Easter Santa
After much to do with the naughty elves (who spectacularly made good), an errant reindeer or two and an absent recipient, I finally received a copy of Polis last week. Not apparently the game originally ordered, but nevertheless one that has been long on my wish list.
Since receiving it, it has not been off my game table - literally. Two long intense games (the second took six hours!) a brilliant mix of war game and resource management. One of the bet two player games I have ever played. It will feature largely in my entry for the "New-to-Me" geek list for April. I can't thank you enough for your generosity and patience
