I have always enjoyed boardgames and card games but never played games much deeper than Life, Monopoly, or Axis and Allies. A few years ago my husband and I wanted an activity we could do together after work when we weren't out being active. So we took out our old games and started playing Boggle, Life, Civilization, and Axis and Allies. One day while at our local hobby / game store (we miss you Nittany Line Hobby) we saw these awesome planes minis which to my surprise were actually for a game? So my husband did a little digging and found out that they were for this game called Wing of War and it might be fun to try it one day, but not then because it seemed a bit complicated.
In his searching he found BGG and was hooked. He found Ticket to Ride and ordered it for us to play. The game was so much better than Life and Axis and Allies. Soon we started to listen to some Podcasts such as the Dice Tower and Game On! Could you believe there are so many games out there? A whole new world opened to us. We went to Origins, found some great game stores around us after Nittany Line closed, and now enjoy great games whenever we want. When the opportunity presents itself we try to bring along games for other to try.
I plan on starting a game club at my school and enjoy incorporating games into the curriculum whenever I can. My 7th graders love playing Who Would Win, and my older students adore Werewolf.
Oh and back to Wings of War, we did eventually buy it and many of the planes. It a fun game and we can even get my mother-in-law to play. And it isn't even complicated. You just have to be willing to play!
