Dear BGG Users,
Well Over 60 Man Hours have gone into this Video Montage of my personal Favorite Board Games that were released in 2010. It includes 95% Brand New footage of games using a montage of Introductions, Music and Multiple Camera Angles to tell their stories. Once again, I am letting the images and music that you watch and listen to speak for themselves.

Due to multiple issues with Youtube and their Copyright Laws for WMG (Warner Music Group), I had to utilize Vimeo once again, but only for this End of the Year Video.

Please note that several games made my list, and some, although great, did not make the list. All lists such as these are merely opinions, and should not be labeled as definitive in any way, as these are just my favorites of those I was able to play prior to planning and eventually filming this Video. I chose my Games based on a variety of factors up to and including each games Components, Playtime, Fun Factor, Visual Appeal, Artistry, Mechanics, and so on.

Also, for those who follow my work I mentioned before that I was the 14th person to be nominated for Geek of the Year 2010 which is to me an incredible honor to even be mentioned in a group that contributes so much and asks for so little in return. I just ask that everyone please vote for ANY of those who were nominated, it doesn't matter whom....just pick someone and vote, as there are some very worthy contributors on this list:

Geek of the Year 2010 Nominations

Honorable Mentions (those that did NOT make my list, but were considered):

Lords of Vegas
Alien Frontiers
Innovation
Navegador

Games I did NOT play or DID NOT receive prior to filming that "might" have made the list:

Merchants and Marauders
Vinhos
Dominant Species

Thanks you once again BGG for all your continued Support !!

Great montage, Jeremy. While I still have not played quite a few of the titles in your top ten, many still pique my interest to at least "play", and maybe own. The one questionable addition that I must inquire about is a game I did actually play...

Can I ask: Why Ascension? Both in gameplay (depth, interesting play) and in components (card quality, art), I found this title incredibly lacking.

What were your honorable mentions for this list?

I just added my Honorable Mentions...they can now be seen above, sorry for missing them earlier.

Why Ascension? Great question.

1: It's easy to teach and learn to just about anybody.
2: It sets up and plays incredibly fast, more so than any other DBG.
3. It's components and accompanying sleeves go above and beyond what are provided with other Deck Building games.
4. It's fun to play, even more so with experienced players.

For a freshman effort by a upstart Publisher, this is a game that didn't cut corners and delivered a product that outshined all other DBG's this year, and it tweaked the formula just enough to make it truly more than just a clone.

Fantastic Job!!! BTW they are selling the War of the Rings collectors edition at amazon for a meager $1,000 +.

This and all of your work has been highly professional, engaging, and educational. Thanks for helping us to know the new games coming out.

I hope you are able to keep this up!!!

Very nice! You know, for far too long I ignored your videos since they were "merely" a component breakdown. Luckily I now know otherwise. Looks like I have to revisit some of your videos as well, some of these games seem to have passed my radar completely.

Nice touch with the Christmas tree there also. Merry Christmas!

OK, so I recognized the Braveheart music for Glen More and the Lord of the Rings music for War of the Ring. What were the other pieces?

Great video...the glare on the sleeves for 7 Wonders makes me think of a helicopter shot going over the water. Nice ripple effect.

It seems to be a contentious game. Some people love it. I'm with you. I think it's weak. I feel virtually every "change" it made from Dominion was a bad choice. I'd be more interested in it if it were a clone. As is, it does nothing for me.

Actually, many of the pieces belong to a group called Two Steps From Hell, famous for composing great music for movie trailers. Most of the tracks used in Jeremy's top 10 can be found in their latest album, Invincible (which I believe is their only album publicly released).

Jeremy, your Component Breakdown videos are a real asset to BGG. The quality of the video footage and the way you've integrated transitions and music is superb. This particular video is no exception - I especially enjoyed your music choices!

I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering about some of the reasons why these ten games made your Top 10 for this year. Will you please consider making another video telling us about some of the considerations that made these particular games stand out for you? This video is effectively a glorified Top 10 list - and an outstanding one at that - but I'm undoubtedly I'm not alone in thinking that it would be great to see a follow-up, where we can listen to you talking about these games and explaining why they made your top 10. I'm not complaining about this great video, on the contrary, I'm just putting forward a case that it begs for a sequel.

Keep up the great work and wonderful contributions!

Jeremy, I love you videos, really, but London??? c'mon the cards are hideous! too thin and with horrible background colors! and the plastic coins! oh my...

I would've liked to see Forbidden Island instead (or Navegador for that matter). Forbidden Island has a great production value for money (Triumvirate/Haggis also comes to mind). My feeling is that awarding large box games with cool minis is not enough. Is this a production value or a production cost rank?

Thanks for sharing your great work with us!

London was actually an easy choice for me. It's a game that grows on you with each residual play. London is one of those games for me that creates a real sense of numerous strategic options for its players by allowing them to build one's city slowly over several rounds until just the right time, while also trying to balance their stacks properly to alleviate poverty. Until you've played it several times with 4 players, it's hard to really judge all the merits under its rather mundane "artistic" hood.

It also doesn't hurt that I don't use those "plastic coins" that you mentioned since I was able to get the Limited Edition with all the Wooden components as you see in the Video.

I totally stand by my choice though, London is an exceptional game.

Haggis came to mind for it's production values alone, and I have absolutely NOTHING bad to say about it or Triumverate, however, I still feel the other games I listed bring more to the table, at least for me personally.

Just gotta say... I've never before had a video about board games give me chills up and down my spine. Your music choices were spot on and watching the entire video was like enjoying a glass of fine wine. This video more than any other one illustrates why you have become my favorite video reviewer in the short time you've been doing it. Your videos are beautiful, and this one in particular was like art. Well done!

An absolutely astounding video Jeremy, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Your music selections really hit the nail on the head for each game.

I too like Ascension very much and I'm pretty sure it's under our Christmas tree waiting for me!

Many of the titles on your list are on my wish list, Glen More, Civilization and 7 Wonders especially. But more importantly you made me aware of a couple of games that I hadn't heard of before and now I'm going to look hard at. London and Founding Fathers.

Thanks for your efforts, I for one appreciate them.

Just... Beautiful, Jeremy. The music choices mixed with the transitions, pans, zooms and camera perspectives actually fueled the video with a sense of drama! Not an easy thing to do when essentially we're looking at boardgame components. Kudos, sir!

so about that one? Glen More? oh come on...
I've played it at Essen and i was horrified to see one more lay-this-tile-there-according-to-those-rules and turn-this-cube-into-another-one-and-score-victory-points.
sure it has some unique stuff...but in my opinion not merely enough to rise it above the rest

Ender,
I thought for the longest time about utilizing a voice over track, but realized in the end that I had already done Components Breakdown Video Reviews on all of these Games already, and wondered if it might just be better to let the Games speak for themselves. Whether I will follow it up with another Video is hard to decide at this point, and I just may be better served (time-wise) to discuss them in the Comments Section here. As you know of ALL PEOPLE, doing Reviews, written or video, consumes a huge amount of time, and right now, with the Holidays and the huge influx of games this week alone, I have a considerable backlog.

Jeremy D. Salinas

P.S. I love love love your written reviews, they are the BEST out there.

Well done!

Thank you David !! I think my choices of Music most definitely go a long way into instilling "Character" into each of these games. I think it's my love for Movie Trailers that makes me so passionate about presenting these games in the right context. Video and Music can be powerful instruments if used correctly.

Thank you for the compliments....definitely give those games a try....just make sure you play them with the right audience of gamers....Civ can take up to 6 hours on your first play through with 4 players .

I love your videos, Jeremy, but I usually don't like music in my board game reviews. That being said, this video blew my mind; forget the gold standard, this is the platinum standard. Simply amazing. I will agree with Ender in saying that I would've loved to hear why the games were your favorites.

The bolded part is EXACTLY why games on this list that people don't understand are here. You truly have to play some of these games with experienced and sometimes cutthroat players to experience them fully.

I have lots of experience with Ascension and the more you play it the better it actually gets. Unlike Dominion which after numerous plays becomes robotic in play. My wife made me dump Dominion after we played Ascension and we haven't looked back since.

Although i have yet to sit and play Glen More i can see exactly why it is better than other tile laying games. The competitive factor in itself will add depth and replay value. Not to mention the "random drawing" of tiles is removed from the game.

Great video Jeremy and very nicely done.

Next year when I get my three free badges all three of you are going on my profile. Your work should be paid for and used on the companies websites as tutorials.

edit: I think I should be paid for the amount of hours I've spent watching your videos, even on games I know I'll never buy, they are that good.

As has already been said, one of the main things that make your reviews so outstanding is the music.

Would you perhaps mind listing the music you used in this video?

First, exceptional work on all of your videos.
I have already purchased games based on the impeccable information in them and will probably continue to do so.
I now am totally interested in several from this video.

I also thank you for the list of music.
I purchased two CD's and downloaded an MP3 album last night.
Thanks for sharing your love of Trailer music.
I plan to try it out at our game nights.
If it doesn't work, it doesn't matter it's great music.

I'm pretty sure everyone has their own top 10 list in mind.

Watching this video finally in April of 2012 and reading several comments about other games that could have been on the list, I am now convinced that 2010 was one of the best years for gaming. I am going to have this video on repeat while I work today though, just so I can listen to the music you used, Jeremy.
