Introduction
The Lost Worlds series of game books has been licensed in numerous incarnations the world over. The series is primarily a head-to-head combat mechanism, though it supports multiplayer combat, as well. The primary mechanism employed by Lost Worlds is an intricate descendant of the rock-paper-scissors mechanism. That is to say that the players simultaneously select their action from those available to them in their current situations, and then evaluate the results. Each book represents a character, and one fascinating aspect of the game is that the players hold each other's books during the game. This way, each sees what her opponent is depicted as doing. There are also item, gimmick, and spell cards available for use with some of the books.
The game system was designed by Alfred Leonardi, although some of the individual books were designed by other individuals.
