Casus Belli was an important part of the development of the French RPG, wargaming and boardgaming hobbies. The magazine started as the FFJSST (Fédération Française des Jeux de Simulation Stratégiques et Tactiques, French federation of strategic and tactical historical gaming) bulletin, but quickly became a professionally edited magazine published by Excelsior Publications (who also published the boardgaming magazine Jeux & Stratégie). At first focussed on wargames, Diplomacy and AD&D, the magazine later became more and more RPG-oriented, though still having regular columns about other aspects of gaming (videogames, miniature painting, boardgaming...)
Along its history Casus Belli has published games on a regular basis within the magazine. Use Casus Belli for the game publisher.
The first incarnation of the magazine had 122 issues, as well as a number of special issues (RPG scenarios, RPG rules or universes, wargame special issues...).
The magazine was resurrected under the name "Casus Belli Nouvelle Formule" for 36 issues (last issue dated nov 2006) by Arkana Press.
