A German board game award that aims to promote the culture of educational games in German-speaking countries and highlight particularly good games for children. The award promotes playful learning to a wider audience and thus heighten the social status of gaming. The initiators of the prize want to contribute so that playful learning (or educational gaming) is recognized as an essential building block in the development of children in all age groups. The prize is related to the magazine 'spielen und lernen'.

The prize was introduced in 2003 and awards games in three age categories: "from 3-years old"; "from 6-years old" and "from 9-years old" and in one category for unreleased games.
