Forgotten Napoleonic war game

Happy New Year!

At the end of last year, I went through my wardrobe.
Then I unearthed a Napoleonic war game that had been totally forgotten.

It's [AVALON HILL] "Struggle of Nations", "HUNDRED DAYS BATTLES" and "Battle for Italy".
Thirty-five years ago, as a junior high school student, I was young and foolish...

At the beginning of the New Year we will scan these to create Vassal data.

The strength of the units is shown directly on the top right corner of the unit, and I have tried to reduce the margin of the "ORGANIZATION DISPLAY". The number of squares for each commander is based on the number of units that can be subordinated. This is easier to manage as units are not moved directly when their strength increases or decreases.

Reference books part 2

In preparation for the release of Arracourt (2023) I am translating and reading the reference books that were mentioned.
I have finally read 200 pages of "The Lorraine Campaign", a third of the total.
I am beginning to understand the fierce battle of Lorraine.

I searched for other materials and found some references to "Operation Husky".

It seems that GOSS is planning to release "Sicily", so I looked to see if [BCS] has a suitable release.

From gallery of ShKO

So I made a map for [BCS] of Sicily, where AMS maps are available.
The map scale is 1,250m / 1hex, which seems to fit with the actual landing sites and troop positions.

Arracourt
Brazen Chariots

In Japan, only a few books on war can be found in official libraries.
History books and reference materials on war are viewed exclusively on the Internet. I personally duplicated it and translated it into Japanese.
Currently, I am reading "Operation Crusader 1941" published by Osprey and "United States Army in World War II European Theater of Operations The Lorraine Campaign" by CENTER OF MILITARY HISTORY UNITED STATES ARMY.

Of course, "Operation Crusader 1941" is [BCS]
Brazen Chariots: For Battles for Tobruk, 1941.
And "... The Lorraine Campaign" is for [BCS] Arracourt.

The Battle of the Bulge

Battle of the Bulge

I bought "The Battle of the Bulge" from Yahoo Auctions.
The keyword in the rulebook is needed for the password to download the Vassal data.
"The Battle of the Bulge" was first published by Epoch in 1981, and later became a supplement to Command Magazine (published by Kokusai Tsushinsha) in 1998.

One hex is about 3.3 km; one turn is one day. Regiment size unit. North end of map is Liège - Monschau, south end is Neufchâteau, east end is Bitburg, west end is Dinant - Namur.

Initial set-up placement is free. Von der Haidte's drop point is also free. All units have two steps. Mechanized units can have a second movement and a second attack.

Simple rules, can be played in a couple of hours. It is one of the most played.

End of turn 3. Concentrate Panzer divisions in the northern part of the map in front of Malmedy and St Vith, and break through to the front of Spa. Von der Heydte's drophunters survived one step and were able to prevent the 7th Armored Division from taking Malmedy. Beyond this, the Germans can't hold the line without breaking up the stacks; attacks below 3:1 are almost always losses for the attackers.

In the south, there are few mechanized units, so little progress has been made. The Germans will abandon Bastogne and try to break through in the north.

What's next after [BCS] Arracourt?

Sato Koh

When will [BCS] Arracourt arrive?
Will it arrive in time for Christmas?

What will happen to the other [BCS] titles?

I'm not interested in [BCS] Valley of Tears, so I won't be buying it.
I have high hopes for [BCS]'s Operation Market Garden.
I am very much looking forward to [BCS] Cobra by blog post.
I was sunk by the overly complicated rules of GOSS, so I'm hoping [BCS] will simulate the Battle of Normandy.

However, there is one thing that worries me about the [BCS] Battle of Normandy: the 1 mile / 1 hex scale doesn't fit into the [BCS] stack limit rules. In Operation Epsom and Operation Goodwood, the front of a division is almost always less than 5km, and even in GOSS, which is a 1 mile / 1 hex scale, the high stacks are dense.

In "Operation Market Garden", 1km / 1 Hex is about right.

Wouldn't a scale of 800m (about half a mile) / 1 hex be needed for the [BCS] Battle of Normandy?

I preordered [BCS] Arracourt.
It's like a game with one map and a counter of 5/8 inches!

・II/6 Pz battalion firing against support. Both fire events are successful in making the enemy drop support.
・After 2 points of destructive fire, I/3 Battalion raids z (1 point of suppressive fire) to remove enemy units. Moved forward after the battle.
・Reconnaissance battalion moved. After 2 points of destructive bombardment, the reconnaissance battalion makes a fire attack (failed) + shock attack (D1, D: Retreat). No retreat in -1 step due to prepared defense.
・I/6 Pz battalion moves, then shock attack. The enemy unit loses 1 step.

From gallery of ShKO

To reinforce the front line, the infantry battalion moved forward.
HQ moved forward because the optimal distance is 5 hexes.
3 Pz failed to activate second.

From gallery of ShKO

Soviets successfully activated 5 Abn predetermined for primary and reestablished the front line.

From gallery of ShKO

At the end of the first turn.
The Soviets have strengthened their defenses along the river in the north with reinforcements, and 7 Mech is now in reserve behind the lines.
The reinforcements coming from the east have yet to decide where to go.

Panzers Last Stand: Battles for Budapest, 1945

Now that the rules and vassal data have been translated into Japanese,
I played a small scenario solo as a test.

This is the original formation display.
From gallery of ShKO

Support units and various markers on the map are summarized for each formation.
Use formation markers to identify them.
A card type that uses a cool "Unit in signia" like "HQ Display Cards for BCS-LB by Paul Billings" is also good,
In vassal, it is easier to see if the formations are arranged in the order from north to south of the map.

It is a display for the new activation rule of PLS.
From gallery of ShKO

From gallery of ShKO

This time 3 go straight on his Pz to "Zámoly". 4 Kav defends the side of 3 Pz, and 23 Pz siege and activates "Zámoly" depending on the deployment of Soviet troops.
Therefore, the activation quota is 3 Pz, 23 Pz is primary, and 4 Kav is secondary.
