Hi all,

I’m back with the next set of models for the Orc’s rostra of infantry, which are the Lightly Armoured Grunts, carrying Hand Weapons and Shields.

You can download these new models at https://printandplayfantasy.com/the-black-land-orcs-army-cod... and click on ‘Orc Grunts with Hand Weapons and Shield with Metal’.

Here are some pictures from our last game test, Herlanceians vs the Orcs. I played as the Orcs and got my ass kicked, sorry boyz. Tom played as the Herlanceians and took the pictures, thanks, Tom.

You don’t see too much of the new Orcs but the Men of Crack and Corn and Jigors are looking really good if I do say so myself.

There were a few things to take away from the battle, one of which is the Orc grunts are generally underpriced. ‘Soft Infantry’ needs reworking, which I have done and replaced with ‘Heroic Charges’. Oh, and Orcs aren’t too keen on War Hammers lol.

I have also started updating the Orcs’ rules and lore, to accommodate their new models. Here’s a new piece of art I’m working on, which gives you a taste of Orc’s society

I did wonder if I really needed to sensor the Iron Maiden, as they don’t produce milk and so don’t have breasts but just in case I have.

Next, I’m going to start working on Orcs with Spears and Shields, which should take a bit longer, as I have to create these new weapons and with each new infantry unit, I always create a new pair of Bannermun and Musician.

Ok then, thanks for popping by and hopefully I will see you next time, all safe and well

Hi again,

Just a quick post letting you know that the New Orc Grunts with Hand Weapon and Shields are out and ready to download at the link below:

Link: https://printandplayfantasy.com/the-black-land-orcs-army-cod... (Click on ‘Orc Grunts with Hand Weapons and Shields’)

On a personal note, my productivity has slowed with my Dad being ill with Parkinson’s disease and suffering from a Water Infection. The good news is that Dad’s condition improved to the point where we could move him out of the nursing home and into supported living. That was great for Dad, but it fell upon me to sort it all out. So that’s why I have been a little slow lately.

Hopefully, now Dad’s sorted, things should start speeding up again.

The next group of models I will be working on is these figures ‘Armoured’ variant. Their armour parts have been created already, so they should not take that long.

Thanks for popping round

New Black Land Orcs Released Update 04-07-2021

Hi everyone,

Oh boy, working on the new Orc Template took a lot longer than I first thought it would, but I have finally fished, and here they are.

External image

External image

These Orcs with Two Hand Weapons come in two scales, 15mm and 35mm and four different colours, Green, Blue, Brown and Orange. I know the ‘Orange’ is an odd choice, but that colour is really from a failed brown skin, which I thought I might as well include anyway.

External image

I would have included a light armour variant of the Orcs with Two Hand Weapons, but that would take another week or so. However, the good news is the Armour is done and just needs adding to the models. So that’s the next set of figures I’m going to release.

As their hand weapons are done already, after that, I will add shields to the Orc template, allowing me to create Orcs with Hand Weapons and Shields fairly quickly. In fact, I have decided to stick on the Orcs for a while and update all their models, which should keep me out of trouble for a bit.

If you want to download these new models, you can for free at: https://printandplayfantasy.com/the-black-land-orcs-army-cod... click on the link ‘Orc Grunts with two Hand Weapons’ to download them.

Well, that’s it for now, and as ever, thanks for popping by

Dave

Just a Quick Post – PnPF Update 10-05-2021

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update today on my progress. For those who read my last post about my Dad, he is doing well at the moment.

The New Orc Model’s Progress
As you can see underneath, I have just about finished the front parts of the Models for the Orcs.

External image

External image

External image

External image

External image

I have lightened up the model by adding a light yellow tint to the Orcs.

Also, looking back over the model and how their different parts fit together looks like I have a few fixes to make, which I will do tomorrow. For instance, I’m not quite happy with that banner, and I may lighten up the Orcs even more. Otherwise, they are on track and should be finished by the time I post again, where you can download them for free.

The Main Rules
As for my progress on updating the main rules, I’m at the stage of getting them proofread, which is, of course, one of the final stages to go before Three Plains 3.10 is released.

At the moment, we are up to page 80. I’m hoping to complete this process in the next 3 to 4 weeks, but my proofreader, Emma, is doing this for free and has a busy schedule, so she can only manage about 20 or so pages at a time. Emma, you’re a star btw!

The Outcasts
As for the new Outcasts, Three Plains’ version of the Undead faction, game testing is going really well for them, and they are starting to feel more and more like War Hammer Fantasy Undead, which is what we are going for with this faction. So the Outcast is a horde of all manners of reanimated monstrosities, all working together in one force.

In my last game test with Tom, he fielded a Vampire Lord, a Necromancer mounted upon a Black Wagon, Shadow Swarms – Undead Bats, Meek – Crappy Skeletons, Scared Bones – undead Skeleton Warriors and Mounted Writhes.

Even though I lost the game (just outplayed by Tom), I was quite pleased with the feel and performance of the Three Plains’ version of the Undead. They are starting to shape up quite nicely. I’m really going to have start carrying more magic weapons that can deal with spirit!

The Outcast codex is still incredibly rough at the moment, but if you want to take a look at it, you can at https://printandplayfantasy.com/Forums/topic/the-outcasts-ne.... Version 0.003 is coming soon btw.

Well, that’s it for now, and as ever, thanks for popping by

‘I’m Back’ – PnPF Update 10-04-2021

Hi everyone,

I know my posts are few and far between, but this time, there was a much bigger gap. So I would like to thank my patrons for hanging in there during my radio silence.

The reason for my disappearance was due to my father’s illness coming to a head. Dad suffers from Parkinson’s disease, and he had a bad fall caused by a Water Infection.

Dad had done remarkably well coping by himself until now. However, after his fall, it soon became clear that he needed around the clock care. So I had to move in with him to look after him until we could move him to a nursing home.

The good news is Dad is better and doing well and now lives in a good home, and I’m back, mostly, as it’s fallen to me to sort everything out for my old man.

Back to the Update – The New Orc Models
Before it all hit the fan, I was about to post my progress on the new Orc models, which you can see underneath.

External image

I have chosen to create the new Orc base model using a modular system, which will save time in the long run, as I can just add on extra weapons, armour and limbs when needed to get a new set of models when needed.

The Three Plains Rulebook
Even though most things went on the back burner whilst looking after Dad, I managed to find some time to continue working on 3P’s Rulebook.

I’m happy to report that all spell checking and grammar is done. There are a few rules which need streamlining and then it’s off to be proofread. After that, it needs number referencing and then it’s pretty much done, apart from art filler.

Well, that’s it for now. Again thanks to my Patrons for sticking by me and see you again soon.

El and Elf Sorceresses Released!

Hi guys,

Well, the El and Elf Sorceresses are ready, and as a late Christmas present, they are free to download and enjoy at your leisure.

External image

The print sheets contain 4 different Sorceress models, in 6 different colours, and have 4 different backgrounds and come in two different scales, 15mm for the game and 35mm for general use.

The new models come in a PDF file as normal, but I have used ‘Layers’ to save space on the file. You will need a good PDF reader to access all the different layer options on the file. The best PDF viewer is ‘Adobe Acrobat Reader’, which you can download for free here: https://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/otherversions/

External image

I have also included plenty of add-ons with the models as well, so you can really get creative with them.

You can download the new Sorceresses models at https://printandplayfantasy.com/the-imperial-elves-the-golde...

My next Model Project
Updating the Orcs will be my next model project. I’m going to resize them. At the moment in the game, they are roughly the same height and built as a Human, but I want to make them much stockier and put one figure on a 20x20mm base, instead of two and have them stand about two heads higher than a man.

Working on this model should allow me to update most of the Orc gaming pieces, as they are an infantry army. Now that I have finished the Sorceresses, I can get cracking on updating the Orcs after the weekend.

The Outcasts
I have released the first draft of the Outcast Codex, which is really ‘Rough’ and most likely full of mistakes, but still usable for a game and should give you a good feel for how the Outcast will play in a battle.

Thanks to the feedback I got, I’m already currently working on V0.002, which should clean it up a lot. I welcome any commons on this new codex.

If you want to take a look at this First Draft of the Outcast Codex, you can download it at https://printandplayfantasy.com/Forums/topic/the-outcasts-ne...

Well, that’s about it for now, thanks for reading, and thank you to my Patrons and a late Happy New Year to you all, let’s hope it’s a better one eh!

Take care

Dave

Happy Christmas everyone,

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy Christmas and whilst I'm here give you a sneak peek at the new and improved El and Elf Sorceresses. So here are the new golden girls:

I have finished their fronts and three of their backs. What's left to do is to give them each six different colours and work on their magical shrouds, which really shouldn't take long at all. So I'm hoping that I should finish this new model next week or maybe a little later.

Also, I just wanted to thank all my patrons, past and current for all of your support over the last year:

Hi once again,

You find the new models on this page: https://www.patreon.com/posts/28798437

Btw, the models are in six different colours and come in two different scales, 15mm and 35mm.

The Mains Rules Update
In other news, I’ve finished the first read-through of the rules and well into the second. At the moment I’m about halfway through rewriting the lore of the Three Plains universe.

Underneath, is the entire universe of the game, which I created to help me write its lore. It’s nowhere near finished yet, but it does give you a good idea how it all works:

The Winner of the Last Poll
External image

As you can see, it was a draw between the Skeleton Horse Riders and updating the Orcs. As this is a draw, I get to choose between the two winners, and I’m going to go with updating the Orc main infantry model.

Redoing that model will mean updating about 80% of the Orc’s figures in one go, as they are an infantry based army. So this will be a huge update for their model roster.

I’m going to cheat a little and use that new Blue Orc Nutters as a starting point, and squish them down to sized and put one figure on a base 20x20mm, instead of having two Orcs on a base that size, which is the standard now.

However, as mentioned in my previous posts, before starting the Orc update, I will be remodelling the Elf Sorceress Model as you can see underneath.

External image

This mini-project should keep me out of mischief for a while.

The Outcasts
Well, there’s been a change of plan for the undead, as we have decided to stop working on the Vampire Lords of Evernight, and switch to a more traditional undead faction, a bit like the old undead for Fantasy Warhammer, which we are calling the ‘Outcasts’.

The reason for this is simple; I just bit off a little bit more than I could chew with that faction, as it’s not one, but six. I did play around with the idea to work on just one of the Evernight Vampire Families but save for House Lueking, none of the others is what you could strickly call an undead faction. For instance, house Fray fields living warriors, apart from their vampires, of course.

So I took what I had done so far and streamed it down to the Outcasts, which is a true Necromancer focused codex, with all the typical undead you could want to use in battle, with some new ideas in there to boot.

As for writing the new Outcast’s Codex, all is well, and we have a fully working draft. When this current lockdown is over, we’ll start game testing it properly.

As this post is really about the new Blue Orc Nutter’s release, I will talk a bit more about the Outcasts next time; such as, what undead gaming pieces they will include and how they will play.

Anyway, I think that is enough for today.

As always thanks for popping by

What Should I Work On Next? 01-10-2020

Hello again,

Well here I am again, with another update and I would like you to vote on my next project, but first, let’s take a look at how things are going with the Blue Orc Bulls,

External image

External image

External image

As you can see, not too bad I think. I do have their backs to do yet, but that never takes long.

I’ve gone for a bone and Zag scaly skin armour look for the Blue Orcs, as that would be two of the few materials they would have access to out in the waste of the Black Lands, while they follow their green brothers around.

Main Rules
As for the main rules, I have around another 30 pages to go, but once that is done, I have another check to do to weed out anything I missed before; so chugging along really…

Magic Cards
At the moment I’m also updating the spell cards, and here’s my progress so far.

External image

Next, after finishing Chaos, as it needs quite a bit of work, I will have a look at White Magic; I’m thinking while puffy clouds, golden rays of sunshine and light blue skies.

Poll Rules
Ok then, back to voting. Here are the voting rules:

You can vote twice and change your vote if you want. However, if you are one of my Patrons, then you will get +5 votes, which I will have to add on manually. If you wish to take advantage of this arrangement, please contact me through Patron.

You must be a member of this site to vote. You can join us here at PnPF by clicking on Register under the User Menu and following the instructions from there. I have had Polls fiddled with in the past by people refreshing the page multiple times so that they can keep on re-voting for the model they like, that’s why I would like you to register to stop that from happening. You can register here: https://printandplayfantasy.com/register/

The Poll will end on the 30th of October 2020. I should have finished the Blue Bull Orcs before then, so in the meantime, I will update the Sorceress model.

You can vote here: https://printandplayfantasy.com/2020/10/01/what-should-i-wor...

Here are some more details on the models you will be voting on:

Herlanceian Pikemen
The Herlanceian Guard makes up the backbone of any Herlanceian legion. They are light, versatile and very capable infantry, and are charged with protecting Herlanceia’s realms and her interests across Many.

Herlanceia is one of the few nations who invests in a professional standing army, which comes at a great expense to her economy. Therefore, the Herlanceian Guard is never left idle. They can be found fighting all across the world of Many, safeguarding Herlanceia’s interests and expanding her influence. At other times they can be found keeping the peace and guarding her shores against any invaders who dare to set foot on Herlanceian soil.

The Herlanceian Guards are good, reliable and professional troops that the Arcmerit can always count on in times of need.

Skeleton Cavalry
I would like to look at creating Skeleton Cavalry or at least make a start on them.

I would most likely work on a light cavalry unit and then use that as my base to build up more elite units from in the future. It would just be a case of adding different weapons and armour to convert it into a different unit. For instance, adding more armour and a lance would turn the unit into an elite undead heavy cavalry unit.

Imperial High Mage and Imperial Magic Handmaiden
The Imperial High Mage and Imperial Magic Handmaiden will be two models in one, but I will as include all their mounts upon their model sheet, baring in my I have just finished their Elf Mage mounted on a Roc model.

Imperial High Mage

External image

Imperial High Mage / Imperial Magic Handmaiden 3rd generation female Elves will either become Hand Maidens’ to their Princess Priestess Mothers or study under them to become a High Mage. However, all are expected to become mothers to the next generation of Elves. High Elf Mages are thought of as the working wizards in the Empire. These powerful Mages are constantly at work, only resting to do their bit like a female for the Empire. If they are not at court they will be casting magic for industrial or agricultural assignments. At other times they can be found high up within their towers, studding spells, mixing powerful potions or writing magical scrolls for their Sorceress Mothers. High Elf Mages also lend their arcane abilities to the Golden Empire’s military, where they can be found on the battlefield casting fairly complex and powerful spells at the enemy and defending against their magic. Even though a High Elf Mage is overshadowed by their Sorceress Mothers magical abilities, they still have considerable skills in the arcane arts, which most wizards outside the Empire would be envious of. Unlike their mother’s, High Elf Mages do not generate enough raw magical energy to create a shroud of magical protection around them. Instead, their will focus all of their considerable power into casting powerful spells at the enemy, and ride a steed or beast into battle and heavily rely upon them for their defence. Despite their mediocre status within imperial society, High Mages are not to be underestimated in battle. They are equal to all the other great mortal wizards outside the Empire and have even been known to lead small attachments of soldiers to victory in skirmishes.

Imperial Magic Handmaiden

External image

Under the Imperial High Mages, serve their Magic Hand Maidens, who are usually their own daughters. They are competent magic casters but lack the power of their mothers. That said, some have impressed their betters so much that they have served under Princesses or even the Empress herself. Imperial Magic Hand Maidens are the last in the line of magic casters the Empire will allow serving as wizards. The tint of corruption in their blood becomes too great within later generations of Elves for them to become effective spellcasters of any use to the Golden Empire. On the battlefield, Magic Handmaidens usually accompany small attachments of warriors, bravely serving as the group’s main wizard. In bigger battles they will directly aid and support mages by casting low levels spells to keep their enemies off balance or help their masters to combat their spells.

Updating the Orc Grunts – Changing the Size of their Models

In Three Plains the game and just about all fantasy wargames, and law, the green skins are believed to be generally stronger than Humans and Elves. However, in this game currently, their strength rating is the same as a Human or Elf…

Now if you have read the rules, you might think there is nothing weaker than a Human or Elf in the game, as their single base attack has no modifiers (which is also true for the Black Land Orcs). However, you would be wrong.

Three Plains gets around this problem by simply giving weaker creatures a bigger base. For instance, an Herlanceian Guard model has 2 figures on a 20x20mm base and has 1 attack. Zombies are a little bit weaker than humans are in this game (or not as good in combat at least). Therefore, their model contains 3 zombies on a 30x30mm base instead, which makes them just a little bit weaker in combat than the human spearmen. This is because more humans can cram into combat than zombies.

Returning back to the Black Land Orcs, the reverse is also true and can be applied to my Orcs. For instance, instead of having 2 Orcs on a 20x20mm base, I would like to have just the 1 figure on the same sized base. This would make an Orc as strong or as deadly as 2 averaged humans, which also would have the benefit of not having to change too much in the game.

The new model’s figure would be much fatter and wider and would look something like this underneath.

External image

Since the Black Land Orcs are essentially an infantry army, creating one new core model would affectively be enough to make this update possible and not too hard to do.

This new orc model would have 3 main stances in both blue and green. They, in turn, would have many different attachments of arms, heads, armour and weapons to allow the creation of a wide number of different looking models in a unit. Furthermore, this new model will also allow me to create all the different units in the army, simply by changing its colour or adding or taking away its armour and weapons.

I think on the next poll I will give members a chance to vote on starting this process, which will only be a start. So I will look at creating the basic model to base all the other new ones from. I will not be updating the entire orc army…

Thanks so much for reading and if you want to vote, you can do so by following this link, cheers.

Good day to all,

Well, here I am again, with a nice short post.

Here are the new Base Add-ons, in two different scales, 15mm and 25 to 35mm and 5 different base ground styles.

Download here: https://printandplayfantasy.com/scenery-page/

In the future, I’m sure I will keep on revisiting this Add-on Pack as I continue to generate more art for the game.

Magic
In other news, I’m up to the magic in the rulebook, which I have enjoyed updating.

Generally, I have made the spells a little more potent, as more often than not, you usually don’t get that many good spells off during a game, but when you do, you need to feel like it was worth the effort.

I had a new idea for magic, which I’ve been mulling over in my head for a bit now. Each discipline of magic could have a small benefit to using or mastering. So to not mess with the balancing of the game too much, the discipline’s bonuses would not be overpowered. For instance, a wizard who had mastered Dark Magic could gain ‘Life Drain’, where they suck the life force out of mear by models to generate more magic dice.

As for ‘Magic Strikes’, the game’s newest rule, we thought it needed nerfing down to just one automatic hit, as in our last game it generated a lot of salt.

Lastly, I thought it would be nice to update the magic cards by giving them backs now and reviewing some of their cover art.

External image

Next Model Project
After posting this short blog update, I will start properly working on the Blue Orc Bulls and completely reworking the Sorceress model, as it really shouldn’t take that long to do.

External image

External image

External image

As you can see above, I have just started on the Blue Bulls and even done some provisional work on the Sorceress model too.

Nevernight
Ok, so it’s been a while since we looked at Evernight, which is Three Plains’ Undead faction.

I really don’t know what I was thinking about before, but I was going to do their entire book, which is all six factions, which now I realise would have been a little too much.

In my defence, I was planning to do one codex for all of Evernight with slightly different styles for each Vampire House, but as our ideas progressed, each faction ballooned out of proportion and now looking at them, each one needs their own codex.

So I’m going to concentrate on House Lueking, which will play more like your classic Undead faction, with skeleton warriors, zombies, ghost and ghouls.

Well that’s it for now and as always, thanks for popping by
