This news article was first published on Table for ONE

Final Girl, the solitaire game themed on the famous movie trope with the same name, is getting a second series as publisher Van Ryder Games has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. Building on the foundation of the popular Hostage Negotiator, in Final Girl you take on the role of the last survivor enacting bloody vengeance upon her antagonist plucked straight from horror cinema masterpieces. The game is built upon a system appropriately titled Feature Films, each themed on popular movie franchises and characters that gets integrated to the core game system similarly to Unsettled from publisher Orange Nebula. The first series of Final Girl turned out to be a huge success and Van Ryder Games is definitely pulling all the stops for this second foray into horror themed solitaire board game extravaganza. As well as introducing five new Feature Film modules, each themed on beloved horror movies like the Alien franchise and cult-classic The Thing to name but a few of the new additions to the roster, the Kickstarter campaign for Final Girl Series 2 offers a staggering array of options to also pledge for content from the first series as well as collector’s edition boxes to store all of this pulpy content in appropriate fashion.

It’s a Dog Eat Dog Corporate World in the Dystopian World of Solar 175 From Publisher Cogito ergo Meeple

This news article was first published on Table for ONE
Board Game: Solar 175

Publisher Cogito ergo Meeple is gearing up for a Kickstarter launch of Solar 175, an upcoming euro-style legacy game designed for 1 - 5 players by authors Madeleine Adams and Joseph Adams. In true Weyland-Yutani fashion, players will assume the roles of newly appointed CEO’s who will stop at nothing to expand their company’s reach far beyond the stars whilst simultaneously trying to out manoeuvre the competition.

“It’s been 175 years since the unspeakable war. Since this horrific event humanity has left control of the solar system’s vast resources to just one governmental organization, the United Federation of the Solar System. A vast inter-global governance system set up in the ashes of the destruction. Since then a new democracy has gradually formed, the previously uncontested centrist party of the United Federalists bowed to decades of pressure and allowed rival parties to stand in ‘free and open elections’. From this moment, the corporations have done everything they could to gain influence over these powerful political organisations. There is vast wealth available in the solar system and only the most ruthless will prosper.

Solar 175 is an epic, euro-style legacy experience for 1-5 players set in a dystopian, sci-fi future. The game utilizes bag-building, area control and worker placement. It is inspired as a fusion between classic euro games such as Orleans and El Grande and a unique thematic and evolving universe. Solar 175 is set in a prosperous expanding solar system with immersive worldbuilding and engaging narratives. The game is rich on theme and will feature interesting ethical and philosophical choices as well as engaging euro style gameplay. Play occurs across three cyclical phases, the draw phase, the assign phase and the action phase. Players simultaneously draw workers from their unique embossed bag and assign these workers to jobs on their double layered player board. During the action phase players take turns to remove workers from these jobs to perform a large variety of actions to help propel them to victory.

The winner is the player with the most influence points at the end of the game, influence points can be gained via many different strategies, such as helping to build giant megastructures, influencing the upcoming election and building outposts across the solar system. Play continues until one player has built all of their 15 unique outposts tokens which triggers the election phase and end game scoring.

Solar 175 has an innovative end game scoring system which changes based on how the players interact with the game-world.
This creates unique winning conditions in each game making each one feel fresh and distinctive. The legacy campaign contains dozens of hours of content with engaging narrative and multiple endings. Once complete, the game is fully replayable and the game-world continues to expand and evolve endlessly.”

Publisher Senior Games Launches Kickstarter Campaign for Heroes of the Shire

This news article was first published on Table for ONE
Board Game: Heroes of the Shire

English based publisher Senior Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Heroes of the Shire, a turn-based fantasy adventure game for 1 – 6 players. Designed by Damian Senior and featuring artwork by Edwin Hieo, Heroes of the Shire features a heavy emphasis on story progression and levelling up your character harking back to the classic “choose your own adventure” style of books and games from yesterday. In addition to being able to play through scenarios either cooperatively or solo, the game system also features competitive play in the form of an arena mode where you can duke it out with your friends in a variety of battle modes. As for the solo mode, publisher Senior Games describes the solitaire aspect of Heroes of the Shire as follows:

“Players will be required to embody 2 heroes during a scenario, alongside rolling dice to determine which enemy spells gets cast. As a scenario unfolds and tiles are explored, enemy units will be summoned to battle. These spells which are usually chosen by the villain player should now instead be chosen at random by a D6 dice roll.

Our solo mode add-on offers a true solo mode experience, for players to run a scenario embodying 1 hero of their choice. Whilst exploring tiles in scenario mode, action cards are frequently used. Our solo mode add-on has some exclusive actions that are not available in the regular action card deck. These new actions help keep the balance of a solo adventure. Allies are found on a solo mode journey, of which many will offer up their services to help you.”

Garphill Games Unveils Wayfarers of the South Tigris

This news article was first published on Table for ONE
Board Game: Wayfarers of the South Tigris

Ever since the release of Viscounts of the West Kingdom, the final entry to the West trilogy, people have been eagerly anticipating news about the next trilogy from publisher Garphill Games. Now that day has come, as the publisher has unveiled Wayfarers of the South Tigris which marks the beginning of a new trilogy of games. Created by in-house design duo Shem Phillips and S J Macdonald and featuring artwork by The Mico, Wayfarers of the South Tigris is a 1 – 4 player game which features dice placement as a central game mechanism.

“Wayfarers of the South Tigris is set during the height of the Abbasid Caliphate, circa 820 AD. As brave explorers, cartographers and astronomers, players set off from Baghdad to map the surrounding land, waterways, and heavens above. Players must carefully manage their caravan of workers and equipment, while reporting back regularly to journal their findings at the House of Wisdom. Will you succeed in impressing the Caliph, or lose your way and succumb to the wilderness?
The aim of Wayfarers of the South Tigris is to be the player with the most victory points (VP) at the game's end. Points are primarily gained by mapping the land, water, and sky. Players can also gain points from upgrading their caravans, by gaining inspiration from nobles, and by influencing the three guilds of science, politics, and trade. As they make discoveries, players want to quickly journal their progress. The game ends once one player has journaled enough to gain membership in one of the three guilds.”

Return to the Ruins of Rajavihara With the New Expansion Montalo’s Revenge

This news article was first published on Table for ONE
Board Game: Relics of Rajavihara: Montalo's Revenge

Relics of Rajavihara, the solo puzzle adventure game designed by author Joe Slack, is getting a new expansion titled Montalo’s Revenge. Taking inspiration from classic adventure tales, Relics of Rajavihara has you taking in the role of a daring explorer venturing forth through the once lost ruins trying unearth artefacts whilst avoiding deadly traps!

“Relics of Rajavihara is a solo campaign-style game, but also a single play solo adventure game. Make your way through 50 levels of puzzling adventure, spread out over 5 floors, each floor introducing new challenges, and each level harder than the last. Then, once you’ve reached your nemesis and put an end to his devious plot, you’ll unlock a new world that will allow you to play an infinite number of single play solo adventures that you’ll be able to take part in creating.

Shift and slide blocks to complete the goal on each level. You'll have to find ways to navigate through obstacles and line blocks up in order to climb, descend, and complete the goal for each level before you advance to your next level,

Montalo's Revenge takes you even deeper, with 30 brain-teasing levels spread out over 3 new caverns, each of which introduces a brand new twist. Each challenging new level will take approximately 5-15 minutes to complete.

You will be able to do things that weren't possible before, like move blocks up to higher levels, travel farther by warping from one side of the board to the other, and of course, have the satisfaction of crushing many more of your enemies!"
- description by the designer

Work Together to Save Lives in the ICU Unit in Critical Care: The Game

This news article was first published on Table for ONE
Board Game: Critical Care: The Game

As a nurse anaesthetist, it is difficult for me to not get excited about Critical Care: The Game a cooperative game for 1 - 4 players designed by Omari Akil and Dr. Lakshman Swamy whose experiences as a pulmonary and critical care physician serves as the inspiration for the game.

“The game is played over a week: seven Days in the ICU. Each Day is broken up into several phases. First, Rounding and Complications happen simultaneously for all players; during Rounding, any cards already on the patient take effect, adding or removing Injury and Crisis. Then, Complications are drawn for each patient; the injury they have already sustained determines what Complications they get, just like in real life! After Rounding and Complications, players take individual turns called Shifts.

During each Shift, a player draws and resolves a Pager card and then draws up to 7 Therapy cards and plays up to 12 hours of Therapies. Pager cards represent real life in the hospital, such as when nursing is short-staffed or the CT scanner breaks down. Therapy cards have beneficial effects for patients, often removing Injury or Crisis tokens. Many instantly remove Injury/Crisis; tokens removed this way are added to your experience pool, which may be used for a variety of purposes including bringing in consulting Specialists in the next phase. In the Specialist Phase, players pool experience tokens to consult Specialists and bring them into the ICU. Specialists have active and passive abilities to bend the rules in your favor; for example, the Surgeon prevents complications from invasive procedures. After the Specialist phase, the Day counter is advanced and the phases repeat, starting with Rounding, until either all patients are cured & discharged from the ICU (win), patients survive until the end of Day Seven (win), or any patient dies (lose).”

To Boldly Go Where No Dice Have Gone Before in One Deck Galaxy by Publisher Asmadi Games

This news article was first published on Table for ONE
Board Game: One Deck Galaxy

Following the success of One Deck Dungeon and the stand-alone expansion Forest of Shadows, publisher Asmadi Games is heading into space with One Deck Galaxy, a 1 - 2 player cooperative game designed by Chris Cieslik. Sharing similar DNA to its predecessors, One Deck Galaxy utilises a dice base system in order to overcome obstacles or battling foes whilst simultaneously levelling up your character similar to a traditional role-playing game. However, where the previous games in the series focused more on a single heroine this latest sci-fi adaptation is much larger in scope allowing you to use dice in order to construct fleets, explore new planets and expand your space faring empire to the stars and beyond.

“Your civilization has reached the stars, and your population is hungry for discovery. Explore, colonize, research — but be sure to build up your strength to be ready for the dangers that await!

One Deck Galaxy is a co-op space civilization-building game using only cards, dice, and tokens. Each card in the deck represents both a location in space your civilization has scouted, but also the benefits it could reap by colonizing or studying it. These benefits increase your ability to roll dice and manipulate them, and help your civilization grow stronger. When the deck runs out, the era advances and your foes become more dangerous. If you're not ready, they may overwhelm you and send your empire into decline before it can become truly great!”
- description by the publisher

At the time of writing the Kickstarter campaign for One Deck Galaxy has 25 days to go with an estimated fulfilment date of May, 2022.
