In line with my budget-friendly solutions for Games Workshop games I am working on two Trolls for my Goblin Team.

There were two Trolls in my bitsbox. They originate from Dark World: Dragon's Gate. I don't play that game but do love the miniatures. That's why I welcome them in my new Goblin Team for Blood Bowl (Third Edition).
The catching claws are leftovers from the WHFB Skaven Rat Ogre sprue. The shoulder pads are a mystery were they come from, but very useful for this little project

In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too.
The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster, Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition and Lord ot Rings.

Oh boy, oh boy... I finished these two Cave Trolls months ago. And then totally ruined them by applying Army Painter DIP. The finished results were shiny Trolls with a wetlook
This week I gathered all my courage and started repainting them completely. It now feels like I've painted 4 Cave Trolls :-):strip_icc()/pic7668104.jpg)
Only basing remains. Glue, sand and cheap brown acrylic paint will do.:strip_icc()/pic7668105.jpg)
My Ork Captains did not receive extensive conversions. Just a weapons swap and an elevated base (with cork) make them pop out of the horde. A also glued a strip of lead to the base to make it heavier. This makes him FEEL more important too when picking up the miniature.

Quick paintjob:
- undercoat white
- wash with scaly green
- yellow accent drybrush
- white drybrush
- basing with PVA glue and sand
- paint base brown with white dots drybrushed

My last visit to Essen SPIEL introduced me to Battle Systems scenery. They produce high quality cardboard scenery. No glue required, thus very modular!

Their fantasy battlefield box provided my with all I needed for LOTR battles.

Years of roaming around on eBay provided me quite a collections of (cheap) miniatures from The Lord of the Rings: Strategy Battle Game.
Recently I started painting these to offer me some variation in my hobby. The sculpts are good, the setting is awesome.
I can advise to have a look on YouTube for painting tutorials. Some of them are very very helpful. Especially the ones about Balrog. For now, only my orcs a ready for (painted) play.:strip_icc()/pic7505556.jpg)

Warhammer 40K Eldar Exodites is one of those mysterious old-school fan armies. Some official art and miniatures exist, but it's hiding in the shadows for a long time.
Dinoriders is a forgotten 80's cartoon series. Ideal for inspiration.
Nine years ago I started collecting dino toys and 6mm Epic 40K Eldar bits with a plan to create a custom Eldar Exodites army. I finally managed to find some time and interest to continue working on these mini's. (Here's my 2013 Exodites blogpost.)
The idea is to use them in Warhammer Epic 40,000 by using this fanmade army list: http://tocoking.be/homerules/files/Epic40000_ArmiesBook_II.p....

These three Brachiosaurs have following stat line:

I made an error.
My plan was to spraypaint all 1:72 scale mini's white. And then wash them with Army Painter dip. And would then drybrush the mini's for a quick 'n easy finish. Speedpaint so to speak...
My plan failed. The reason is that I have always used the drybrush technique when painting my heroic scale (28mm) mini's. Dark under coat and then easy and forgiving drybrush on top. With some painted details in combination with a wash here and there.
However, drybrushing 1:72 scale mini's is not possible (by me). So I ended up with bright white mini's, terribly small, and lots of detail. (You'll be surprised how detailed these Revell, Imex, Matchbox mini's are!):strip_icc()/pic6689612.jpg)
I had to paint the smallest details I ever encountered. And no painting-tricks up my sleeve. I was a drag ... I'll post the stage I'm in now. Not finished at all. Lot's of painting to do... And I thought I had a cunning plan to speedpaint these. NOT!:strip_icc()/pic6689613.jpg)
I'll certainly dip last, after painting, in my next 1:72 scale project!
Conclusion:
1) undercoat white (to show all those details)
2) paint all areas with detail brush
3) dip
4) restore the bright colors (like yellow and pink)
OR
1) undercoat white
2) dip (to show all those details)
3) stop (and play with these tabletop ready mini's)

My last blogpost about hired guns for Legends of the Old West are the United States Marchal, Cookie, Renegade Soldier and Free Trapper.

With the United States Marchal you'll be able to collect bounties. And dollars are always welcome in campaign games.
The Cookie always you to increase the maximum size of your posse (gang).
The Renegade Soldier rules can be found in expansion Legends of the Old West: Frontier – Blood on the Plains. They shoot indiscriminately into fights. So don't be surprised of friendly fire...
The Free Trapper can move quickly through woodland and might be usefull in certain scenario's.
I really wanted to add a miniature in scale 1/72 to represent the "Soiled Dove" special character, but unfortunately didn't find one at the moment. Hints welcome...
