Miniature Games Construction Yard

In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too. The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster and Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition.

The new kids on the block from GW: Primaris Space Marines.

I'd give them following stats in Warhammer Epic 40,000:

Support:
Primaris Space Marines Squad (1 unit)
20 points per unit
+7 points to add Rhino

Movement 10cm
Range 35cm
Firepower 1
Assault 3
Armour 4+
Rapid Fire, Stubborn

Now lets search for suitable 6mm miniatures... Or should that be 7mm miniatures?

The rumour about Squats (or Demiurgs) returning to Warhammer 40,000 is getting louder. I take no chances. Recently stocked up on some extra Epic Squats. In short: I'm ready to expand the army!

It's never enough ...

I have a new set of dice. They're issued by the Chaos god Tzeentch, a.k.a. Changer of Ways.

What a fitting set of dice. 7's! Now I'll win every Warhammer battle. devil

Time for a new Epic army! There are many rumours about Sisters of Battle returning in Warhammer 40K, so I wanted to be prepared for the hype. There's a nice range of 6mm miniatures by Onslaught Minis. They're called the "Sisterhood".

Ordering from the US was always very expensive due to import taxes but now there's a shop in the UK: Vanguard. So I sought myself the ideal combination to reach 600 points worth of Warhammer Epic 40,000 miniatures. The army list I am using is available at http://www.toco.be/homerules .

Buying only 4 Sisterhood blisters provides me 3 detachments totalling 601 points. I have to add 1 plastic Land Raider, 5 plastic Rhino's, 5 Razorbacks, 1 plastic Whirlwind and 1 Inquisitor Space Marine infantry unit. (I could use an extra 5 converted plastic Rhino's to replace the metal Razorbacks.)

Main Force ... 195 pts

Canoness in Rhino ... 49 pts
Sister Hospitaller ... 10 pts
Sisters of Battle Squad in Rhino ... 31 pts
Sisters of Battle Squad in Rhino ... 31 pts
Exorcist Whirlwind ... 10 pts
Sisters Retributor in Immolator ... 32 pts

Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor in Land Raider ... 105 pts
Seraphim ... 15

Note: This is the continuation of my retrospective. Following blogposts will be about my old miniature paintjobs and scenery making. All images show work from +/- 15 years ago.

Warhammer Epic 40,000 was promoted with a bright yellow Imperial Fists army. I couldn't resist to paint my Space Marines in those chapter colors too. What a mistake I made! Yellow must be the most dreaded color to paint miniatures with. And back in those days there was no yellow basecoat spraypaint by Army Painter...
soblue

Still, I like what I see.

The ruins above were made by using all plastic ruins from the base game. I mounted them on two wooden boards and added various tiny details.

It's great to see all those little details like trees and barrels filled with toxic sludge. But in my experience this is not neccessary for 6mm games. It's better to use only a small color palette for the scenery. And all those tiny details won't have any use in the game anyway...

Since I don't own this scenery and miniatures anymore, I have quite a job to do... I want an Imperial Fists army again! And ruined cities!

It's a shame life gets in the way sometime... When I was a student I played many Warhammer Epic 40,000 battles. I even painted quite a lot of those 6mm miniatures.

Now when I see these images again after so many years, they bring back good memories. Have a good look at those Dark Angel Space Marine scouts. There's a tiny conversion for the sergeant.
The scenery looks good on picture. I was nice in real life too, but I remember that for a 6mm game it's better to have one large piece of scenery instead of several small ones. They looked too "scattered at random" on the table.

I don't have the original raw pictures anymore. Only these Photoshop compositions remain. But it's great to see how creative I was. laugh

The Landspeeder is a conversion made from a 40K shoulder pad and leftovers from slottabase sprues. Quite ingenuitive I might say. As a student I had to keep a lid on my wallet.

Now looking back at my old paintjobs I want to start painting again!

... short on words.

My inspiration:

My WIP:

That's "the plan". It's always nice to make sketches before you start building the scenery.

Tools used: ruler (or something solid and straight), saw, gloves to protect hands from saw, things to keep the ruler in place, and a knife.

I made four of these. To be used as one central large hill, 2 medium hills on the sides of a table, or 4 corner based small hills. They can be used in 6mm, 10mm or 28mm games.

Trying to combine misery with new gaming pleasure.
We had a water leak in the house. Had to remove tiles and concrete. By hand, to save other plumbing and pipes.
Then I saw the pieces of tiles and cement, and an idea came to my mind. Epic ruins!

I added a Rhino in the pictures for scale reference.

First I glued the rubble to cardboard (with TEC-7).

Then I poured woodglue over the lot. And then added fine sand.

Easy to make, cheap, and great results! (Even when unpainted...)

I have been posting a lot about Warhammer lately. Well, here's a small deviation from the current theme. I fixed an Ork Gargant from a spare parts lot I found on eBay. The Gargant had no arms.

No problem for the Ork Mekaniacs! An arm from a Mechwarrior robot and a spare weapon from my bitsbox.

I even added a small backpack that originally comes from a Mega Gargant.
