The rumour about Squats (or Demiurgs) returning to Warhammer 40,000 is getting louder. I take no chances. Recently stocked up on some extra Epic Squats. In short: I'm ready to expand the army!
It's never enough ...
Miniature Games Construction Yard
In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too.
The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster, Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition and Lord ot Rings.

The periodical "Citadel Journal" issue 14 from March 1996 had an article about Epic Squats. Additional Specialist Land Train Battle Cars named Fire Shield, Skyhammer, and Iron Eagle were introduced for 2nd edition Epic.
Now I took the liberty to reimplement these rules for 3rd edition Epic. Use the tables below as an addendum.
Now start converting your Battle Cars!

Don't they look delicious? These 6mm greenskins are undercoated brown to take detailed dots of green later. The brown "Army Painter" spray made the miniatures look like chocolate!
My Space Marines army had one Land Raider in the garage without lascannons. So he had to take twin-linked gattling guns! I chopped some of the older Dreadnoughts and used the weapons for the Land Raider.
Now with and added antenna, he'll be the command HQ.
My Squat army has many bikes and trikes. To make the miniatures a little bit more dynamic, I added obstacles to some of the bases. I've also cut the gunner and repositionned it so it looks like the gun can rotate.
"SQUAT POWER!"
Speaking of Squats. My Chaos Squats constructed some extra Hellcannons as support weapons.
You can't even call it a conversion, but I like the result. Paint will add unit coherency.
Next: Tyranids! Many!!!

More little men in 6mm little scale. The Squat armada is the final part of my brotherhood that needs primer.
And these extra Thudd Guns will strengthen their firepower.
Oh how great it is to have a warm summer again...Ideal weather for spraypainting all those tiny miniatures waiting for a coat of paint.

We finally have some summer-sun here. So I can continue spraypainting my Epic miniatures.
The final batch of Eldar troops received their red primer this weekend.
Top right you can see Hemlocks and Nightshades. These are miniatures from Silent Death: The Next Millennium Deluxe Edition. Note the tailwings of my Vampire Raiders in the front. I did not glue the vertical parts onto the model. Only the horizontal wing. That's because I dislike fragile metal parts that needs to be glued with superglue. Long live plastics!
I don't know if these Night Wings will see the table top very often. Because I like the Hemlocks and Nightshades more. And 9 fighters is too much for a game of Warhammer Epic 40,000 in my opinion.
With work finished on the Eldar, I could start priming my Squats. I did the infantry first. They'll receive a grey basecoat and orange as contrast color.
Results were great. I really like "Army Painter" spraypaint.
And that's when the funny thing happened.
After gathering all painted miniatures and cleaning the area, I discovered an odd miniature, unpainted. One of the Squat Landtrain wagons was still in the table and missed my painting session. You can spot him on the last picture.

Second army ready for paint! After finishing my Eldars, I continued work on their nemesis: the Squat Bortherhood.
I'm very happy to have two of the most iconic warmachines in Epic: the Land Trains. These s*ck*rs are worth 600 points! They'll be the backbone in my 4000 points Squat army.
I think the 3 alternative Goliath Cannons are great but I'm now getting nervous about not having any flak in the army...
Maybe I should scout eBay for some cheap Thunderfire Cannons (or better: alternative miniatures, seeing the current prices.)
I performed my previously reported Dettol method to remove paint from my final and fourth Overlord (Kirov) zepelin. Now the Squats can lauch a cool looking armada of flyers.
When time (and weather) allows I'll spraypaint them grey. I'll then drybrush the lower parts brown (for mud, rust and dust). Fiery orange will be used for details and eye-catchers. Follow this blog if you wish to see the results.

My Eldar army finished but the weather is too bad for spraypainting them. So I started working on my Squat army again.
You can see some alternatives to Goliath Cannons top right. They are missile launchers from the collectible miniatures range MechWarrior. The infantry next to the boxes are regular Squats and veterans. I used Ratling Snipers to represent regular Squat bases. They are the "juves".
When buying lots on eBay, you have to be creative with the parts you have. As you can see on the picture above, I have three spare carts but not enough weapons. So fro the last wagon cart I used a crude mortar from the Epic Ork Gargant sprue, and for the middle cart I used an Imperial Guard mortar. Combined with the original mortar wagon they look great! It looks like the loader is able to load both mortars. (I will cut some excess parts and glue it into place later.)

Three Eldar Titans and the Squat airforce in desperate need of paint:
After basing all my Epic Eldar and Squats, work now continues on the Chaos horde. They will be followers of Tzeentch. The color scheme will be mainly black, blue and metal. When in need of eyecatchers, I'll use fiery orange. The 8 stands of Flamers on the left of the next picture will look like flaming inferno's in orange, yellow and white.
I rebased two of my Sorcerers on top of a small ruin to give the illusion of flight (or skimmer).
Because the arms and torso's of Mechwarrior: Dark Age miniatures are posable, I repositioned the right arm of the Questor Titan so that his hand clutches a ruined building. Titans need a dramatic pose because all eyes are on the big miniatures at table when fighting a battle.
But I have no idea what to do with the Banelord Titan. I wanted to add a miniature to his Doom Fist to make him more menacing and also to better visualize the scale of the Titan. I tried various pieces of ruins to add to the base, but none were perfect.
It was allready late, so I left it like this and went to bed...

Happy Newyear! 2013 = Time for Chaos!
I really like these Chaos Squats. I see them as evil mechanics, always tinkering to create machines that cause havoc. One type of those machine are the Dreadnoughts.
The stands with 5 Squats will be used as "Thousand Sons" units.
The stands with 3 Squats and a Dreadnought are "Noise Marines" units.
Time for heavy machines; the Khorne Engines!
Again I used miniatures from Mechwarrior: Dark Age to create custom units. I really liked the animal-like robot vehicles and included them in my Chaos army. Their appearance just screams "ASSAULT!".
The custom Khorne Engines and Tzeentch Sorcerers are based on plywood bases. (I have found them on eBay.)
