Miniature Games Construction Yard

In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too. The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster and Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition.

I have been posting a lot about Warhammer lately. Well, here's a small deviation from the current theme. I fixed an Ork Gargant from a spare parts lot I found on eBay. The Gargant had no arms.

No problem for the Ork Mekaniacs! An arm from a Mechwarrior robot and a spare weapon from my bitsbox.

I even added a small backpack that originally comes from a Mega Gargant.

Not much time to spend at my man-cave. Some minor conversions to my Ork Mega Gargant.

A dynamic addition to the rear exit ramp.

And some extra firepower and crew in the back.

I've gathered all my courage and started to sort out all my Epic stuff. I have discovered that I own waaay too many Fate Cards and too many exactly enough Order Dice.

A Chocolate Army

Don't they look delicious? These 6mm greenskins are undercoated brown to take detailed dots of green later. The brown "Army Painter" spray made the miniatures look like chocolate!

My Space Marines army had one Land Raider in the garage without lascannons. So he had to take twin-linked gattling guns! I chopped some of the older Dreadnoughts and used the weapons for the Land Raider.

Now with and added antenna, he'll be the command HQ.

My Squat army has many bikes and trikes. To make the miniatures a little bit more dynamic, I added obstacles to some of the bases. I've also cut the gunner and repositionned it so it looks like the gun can rotate.

"SQUAT POWER!"

Speaking of Squats. My Chaos Squats constructed some extra Hellcannons as support weapons.

You can't even call it a conversion, but I like the result. Paint will add unit coherency.

Next: Tyranids! Many!!!

My previous warband had only one Pulsa Rokkit. Now I scored three more on eBay, so I'll put a mecanic to work...

The metal mini's will be glued to the base with regular glue and then I'll pour sand over it to create a "cement". This will fix it to the base very well.

Some plaster will be used to cover the holes in the slottabase.

I finally managed to gather me some Boar Boyz. And those wild dudes need a leader.

A Boss!

No fancy stuff here, just the parts one could expect: a Boarrider, ruins, and a Boss.

I've cut the Original rider right off and filed the boar a little bit. They I glued a halved Boss onto the boar.

I really wanted him to be dynamic, so I removed three of the boar's legs from the base and bent the miniature backwards, as if jumping.

The end result is simple yet effective. He looks menacing and charging at full speed.

Ready for some serious trampling! WAAAGH!!!

Trampling Waaagh!

Finally, a Warlord for my Waaagh! I have ten or more of these miniatures, but in fact an army only needs one.

His stand holds a retinue to fix him up (medic), provide cover fire (bazooka), a bodyguard (Nob) and a banner bearer to show his presence on the battlefield.

Three psykers will be available for my armies. The Runtherds with the mancatcher polearms are there to keep the wyrdboyz in line.
I also prepared 5 stands of Nobz to shout commands at the Boyz. Some of the Nobz have Gretchin as pets.

My Waaagh is divided in two factions. The civilized Orks and the Feral Orks. These wild boyz from the woods are ranching the Squiggoths and are allied with Trolls.

I didn't want to throw away my Troll miniatures from the Chaos expansion for Epic 1st edition. In Warhammer Fantasy Battle the Trolls always seek company in the greenskins' armies, so I thought I'd do the same for my Epic Ork army. A stand containing a Troll will be used as Skarboyz (ruleswise).

If you are following my blog for a while, then you'll have noticed that I always want to add specials items to my armies. I'm not a great conversion specialist, but I DO tend to make variations in my armies. As a centrepiece of my Waaagh, I did not want the Gargant to be the eye-catcher. The Feral Orks will be the first you see. And this gargantuan squiggoth from Monsterpocalypse is just perfect!

The truck with the egg is driven by a bunch of courageous Orks, leading the gargantuan squiggoth to the enemy. I don't have any stats for this miniature yet, so for the moment he's for display purposes only. Any tips welcome!

Epic Cathedral

This 3D puzzle is great for Warhammer Epic 40,000. I have found this "pocketmodel" in a local shop where they sell various stuff for parties and decoration.

The old infantry stands fit nicely on the towers.

I added an Eldar tank for size reference.

This cathedral was cheap, easy to create and light to store. It will be perfect for Epic battles. And the fact that it looks like a pocketmodel makes it great for Star Wars battles!

Trolls! gulp

The old game Space Marine had Trolls for the Chaos army. (Renegades: Eldar and Chaos Armies for Space Marine) I really wanted to use these miniatures so I added them to my Ork army. The Trolls are combined with Ork Wildboyz to represent Ork Skarboyz units. I think they really represent "Assault" units very well.

I based the metal Pulsa Rokkit vehicle with an Ork Mekboy to give it some identity.

You can spot two units with 6 miniatures on the base. I added an extra Gretchin to the Warboss stands to stress the importance of the units.

The latest version of Epic "Epic Armageddon" has an Ork dropship called "Ork Landa". The 3rd edition did not have this unit so I had to create custom rules for it. I really wanted a Landa in my Ork force.

You see a miniature from Mechwarrior: Dark Age that I am going to use as dropship for the Orks. The following stats are based on a 'Fast Eldar Bomber':

Range: 30cm
Firepower: 4
Intercept: 1
Gunnery: 2
Armour: 6+
Special: Transport (8), Anti-personnel
Cost: 80

I like to keep conversions simple yet effective. Have a look at the two units in the back. I added one Stormboy on top of ruins scenery to give the impression of having jumppacks.

More boxes of tiny miniatures to be glued. My workbench starts to become my favorite spot in the house...

A couple of days ago I started working on my Ork Mega Gargant so now I have a sweet spot for the Orks. Therefore, work continues to build my Epic Ork force.

Every Ork force needs big guns. I happen to have ten Shokk attack guns and themed and teamed them around a Gretchin detachment.

One of my favorite Ork units are the Kommando's. I wanted to make as many stands as possible with the small amount of miniatures I own. So I added ruins and a lone Nob to represent the Boss.

The 2 Battle Wagons with the shovel in front are to be used by the Kommando's so I added a driver to one of them.

I only have 6 bikes, so I added a Nob to one of them as the leader and the biker to the left is making a wheelie. These small conversions add some variation to the small squad.

Stompa's are an iconic vehicle of the Orks. I converted one with a kustom 'eapon to function as a leader of the detachment. The weapon is an Imperial Guard heavy flamer from Warhammer 40,000.
