Miniature Games Construction Yard

In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too. The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster and Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition.

My laserprinter has been printing some A4 puzzle pieces. Glued together they form a new challenge for my Star Wars Miniatures.

I could not resist buying a pre-order boxed set from Games-Workshop. The new miniatures are just TOO cool to pass by.

"House Van Saar; the technological powerhouse of Necromunda, creators of the finest weapons and armour of all Houses."

I always wanted to own the "Van Saar" gang ever since the original release of their metal 1st edition. Never found any for a reasonable price at eBay...

So that's why I started building the new plastic gangers! And OW-MY these miniatures DO look good. But they have sooo many different pieces. It's a real plastic puzzle.

But since I love the smell of plastic glue in the morning, the high amount of pieces per miniature does not scare me.

These guys look bad-ass. Can't wait to field them. Currently in doubt about the coloring scheme: will I go yellow or lightblue ...

Now with the bases drybrushed and the skin shaded (with ink), I am ready for the final highlights.

From gallery of tocoking

I applied the flesh-ink and then immediatelly wiped it away with my fingers. This way it shades the deeper details and the upper parts remain light pink.

The belts needs some fixing up. And I'll clean up the hair with nice red fine lines.

It feels like I'm putting more time in blogging about this speedpaint-job than in the painting itself

Only two weeks left in 2017. And I challenged myself to paint my entire vintage Goliath gang. (It's about time, no?)

So, here they are. Have a good look, because after I'm finished speedpainting these, a lot of the details will be gone. Covered in too thick layers of paint.

This is great news! For ages I've had the idea to convert one of the plastic 3rd edition Warhammer Beastmen into a 40K warrior. Now I have a reason to do this. Where's my bitsbox?!

From gallery of tocoking

Offcourse I could just buy the new model from Forge World, but where's the fun in that? There are several component options to create my version of Gor Half-Horn. But first, he needs some feet, errr... hooves. The poor Battle-Masters' Beastman will donate his.

From gallery of tocoking

Voila! He's mobile now. When I add all pieces togehter:

I even added a skull on the base to resemble the original model.

My yearly visit to CRISIS (a wargames convention in Belgium) is a highlight of the year. The amount of wonderful demo tables is just fantastic! All important traders are there and there are lot of second hand gaming meterials to buy. Can't wait for 2018's edition. "After CRISIS is before CRISIS!"

Following images did not capture the grandure of this demo table. It was HUUUUuuuge. I guess around 10 meters long. Filled with fully painted Warhammer Fantasy miniatures and alternatives. Great to gaze upon. Surely a beautiful sight to behold.
(For those who couldn't make it to CRISIS 2017, you'll have to find a professional photographer who took pictures of this table to truly see how cool this was, because the camera from my mobile phone was unable to capture this immense scenery.)

Allied HeroQuest = a seamless combination of MB's Heroquest with GW's Advanced HeroQuest (and optional other sets).

I should really try to finish these works...

I recently discovered there was another game like Mordheim and Legends of the Old West. This was a shock for me! Liking both previous titles very much, it was great to see another skirmish game with ties to Games Workshop.

Board Game: Legends of the High Seas

PIRATES! How cool's that! arrrh

I was very lucky to find a rulebook for a descent price. This skirmish game tends to be rare. It's written by Tim Kulinksi (a very friendly person btw) in 2008.

This game can easily be played in the 1/72 scale. This has a huge advantage: low cost. Generally all 1/72 plastic soldiers/miniatures are very cheap compared to the 28mm miniatures business.

The miniatures I bought are from Orion.

While I'm not a train hobbyist, it was nice to take a look a the MobExpo model train convention.

From gallery of tocoking

My fanatasy was triggered at some of the larger scale train scenery. This scrapyard was very inviting to play Necromunda or other modern/future skirmish games. I really like the atmosphere. That Land Rover is just awesome. Well done!

Working with the guys in the picture above made me change my plans for my Mordheim Mercenary warband. While building a regiment of Flagellants 15 strong, I really wanted to add some in my skirmish games. So that's where I abandonned my plans for a Mercenary warband and started designing a Witchhunter warband.

Here's the Reaper Witchhunter:

And his hired Ogre Bodyguard (on a 40mm base):

Witchhunter warbands have trackers and dogs. And trackerdogs... Adding dogs as tiny base fillers adds to the witchhunting atmosphere. Mantic Games has a grumpy plastic bulldog on one of their Dwarf sprues.
