Miniature Games Construction Yard

In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too. The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster and Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition.

The guys in the picture are not for Warhammer 40K. These Tau Auxiliaries will join my new Necromunda Orlock gang.

From gallery of tocoking

I mixed items from the Catachan and Tau Fire Warriors sprues. The Pulse Rifles will cost 50 credits and have following characteristics:

Short 0-15 Long 16-30 Short / Long / S 5 Save Mod -2 Ammo 3+

Following guy wears night goggles. He looks a little bit like he's from Splinter Cell. (If I'd paint him black...)

From gallery of tocoking

I really like the dynamic pose, like he is drawing his knife to engage something in the trees.

Pulse Carbines could follow the rules for shotguns or these custom characteristics:

Short 0-9 Long 10-18 Short +1 Long / S 5 Save Mod -2 Ammo 3+

When I started this GI Joe project for Necromunda I was searching for certain models and parts to create the famous toy soldiers.

Now it's more the other way around. I see a certain miniature and then think: hey, that guy looks like X from GI Joe.

That's why I added Big Boa and Raptor to the team:

From gallery of tocoking

The small falcon comes from the The Battle of Five Armies game.

I need to add Dreadnocks to form another faction. Here's Zandar and his sister Zarana. They both still lack their pink hair dye.

From gallery of tocoking

I never really liked this toy soldier. But then I found a 28mm version of Lightfoot (and added some antenna's to his head). He's one of the Necromunda team now too.

From gallery of tocoking

Road Pig is based on a Mage Knight miniature. I added a brick that came from a HeroClix miniature to his weapon. He is put on a scenic base to elevate him a little bit because the Mage Knight miniature was a little bit too small.

From gallery of tocoking

The Iron Grenadier is a warrior from i-Kore's Void 1.1 game. I still have to glue his dagger (from a Napoleontic game) to his waist.

Board Game: Necromunda

I have 6 more Iron Grenadiers. So I need Destro and the Baroness to lead those gangers. (Image above.)

Time to add some martial artists to the 28mm GI Joe miniatures team.

ninja

Most famous of all GI Joe's is Snake-Eyes. This silent warrior was cool as ice and was an expert ninja only to be rivaled by the other Arashikage warrior Stormshadow, his nemesis.

From gallery of tocoking

HeroClix miniatures again formed the basis for these custom gangers. I added the iconic visor of Snake-Eyes by using cardboard and two small plastic discs. Timber the trustworthy wolf is an old Reaper or Ral Partha miniature.

I still have to decide how I am going to paint Stormshadow. White clothing represents him as the Cobra assassin and adding grey camoflage stripes will show him in his period loyal to GI Joe. The bow is a plastic weapon from the Wood Elf Glade Warriors sprue by GW and the backpack to hold the arrows came from my bits box. (Stormshadow is made from a Hand Ninja miniature.)

From gallery of tocoking

Budo was easy, he is represented by Silver Samurai. Jinx is another ninja from the Arashikage clan. She needs a lot of red paint to finish the job.

From gallery of tocoking

I'll paint a balaclava on Shockwave to make him look like the original toy soldier.

Edit: Baklava must be balaclava ninja

The need to play Necromunda is higher then the time available to meet with friends. That's why I designed these "solo play" game rules.

The fun in a solo game of Necromunda has two parts. First, strategically placing all defenders. And second, trying to sneak through all defenses...

I took the "solo" term quite literally and the scenario's can pit ONE* attacker against multiple defenders. (* Actually, I left some room to play with up to 2 attacking miniatures...)

Don't use a large table when playing Necromunda on your own. Do use quite a lot of scenery and buildings. Use scenario 5 (The Raid) rules for defenders and attackers. (With the adjustments below.)

Attacker Types
Solo: A miniature may act twice each turn if you multiply the total cost of that miniature by factor 2,5.

Defender Types
Sentry: As per normal "Sentries" rules.
Watch: Miniature is on Overwatch. Will never move nor rotate. Follows rules for "Spotting". Will shoot during own turn when enemy in sight. Will goto Overwatch when no enemy in sight.
Guard Post: Hidden Watch. Has "Ambush" skill. Will hide when possible.

Defender Costs
Sentry = Normal cost.
Watch = 150% Normal cost (rounded up).
Guard Post = 200 % Normal cost.

Alarm
There are no reinforcements.
Sentry: Shoot when target in sight, don't move. When no target in sight, then run closer to target (and possibly fight a close combat).
Watch: Line of sight at full range, with 90° front arc.
Guard Post: Line of sight at full range, with 90° front arc.

Shooting by Defenders
Always shoot with heavy weapon first. If unavailable or out of range, shoot with special weapon. If unavailable or out of range, shoot with basic weapon. If unavailable or out of range, shoot with pistol. If unavailable or out of range, shoot with grenade.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 'Breach':
Attacker must leave table edge opposing deployment edge.
Defender deploys anywhere at 3/4 part of the table excluding the 1/4 part adjacent to attacker's deployment edge.

Ratio:
Attacker has 1 or 2 Solo's.
Defender has 200% credit value of attacker.
If playing with "Night Fighting" conditions: Defender has 250% credit value of attacker.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 'Eliminate':
Defender deploys miniatures (including one unarmed target) anywhere on the table.
The target follows normal Sentry rules when the alarm is not sounded. When the alarm is sounded, the target runs away from attacker(s), but cannot leave the table.
Attacker deploys at any table edge and must kill one unarmed target miniature and must then escape at any table edge.

Ratio:
Attacker has 1 or 2 Solo's.
Defender has 200% credit value of attacker + 1 target (unarmed Juve).
If playing with "Night Fighting" conditions: Defender has 250% credit value of attacker + 1 target (unarmed Juve).

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission 'Destroy':

From gallery of tocoking

Defender declares one central Structure as primary target. The defender then declares a second structure as secondary target.
Defender deploys miniatures anywhere on the table, maximum 25% in/on target.
Attacker deploys at any table edge and must plant Melta Bomb on/in any target and must escape any table edge.

Ratio:
Attacker has 1 or 2 Solo's + 1 Melta Bomb.
Defender has 150% credit value of attacker.
If playing with "Night Fighting" conditions: Defender has 200% credit value of attacker.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

ninja

If you succeed in a mission, then adjust the defenders to improve defenses and try again.
If you fail the mission, well, then you've done a good job defending the terrain! Try again.

PS: Ofcourse these solo play rules were designed with following thread in mind -> Crysis Stealth Suit

Yesterday I've covered one half of my Necromunda game board in this blog. Today I'll show WIP of the other half.

There's a shack nearby the dock and the other building is a mansion with a small walled garden. I've added a trainroad scenery garden-gate.

From gallery of tocoking

Detail is important to make great scenery, so I plan to add a lot of features like crates, barrels, tables and ... flowers!

From gallery of tocoking

To create the Italian roofs, I've cut corrugated cardboard into pieces of equal sizes and tiled them like their real world counterparts.

From gallery of tocoking

They will be painted in various shades of orange and red.

Work on my Necromunda scenery continues! I've placed some crates and a miniature on the piece to show the size. In the picture is only one half of the game board. (The other half has a shack and a mansion with walled garden.) The bridge will by a tactical point in games for sure.

From gallery of tocoking

Detail of the bridge:

To make seamless corners I've cut a small piece out of one side of each corner. This way they glued perfectly together without the need for putty or polyfilla.

In one of my previous posts in my blog you might have spotted some small town scenery on my workbench. It is work in progress. The plan is to create a small town in the 25mm scale and later use it in skirmish games with the Necromunda rules.

From gallery of tocoking

I've been a huge fan of the pc game Counter-Strike so I'm looking forward to play CS_Italy with my 25mm SWAT team miniatures...
