This base plate is extruded polystyrene thermal insulation. It is sturdy and very easy to manipulate. I am carving rocky features from the board with a sharp knife. The larger chunks were removed with a saw.
It is pure coincidence, but with some imagination the shape reminds me of these:
Miniature Games Construction Yard
In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too.
The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster, Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition and Lord ot Rings.

To close the hole in the plastic Dark World scenery I am using cardboard.
There will be no viper pit in the temple but there will be an offering table... with blood!
Adding loose stones and embossing lines with a pen will help the drybrushing process.
I've made a selection of decorations from my Lizardmen bitbox. The temple will fit perfectly in the Lustrian jungle. Speaking of jungle, I'll be adding quite some trees and plastic aquarium plants soon too.

Rumble in the jungle... I am converting my Dark World scenery into a Warhammer Lizardmen temple.
First I'll add more stones cut from polystyrene, and then I'll start glueing Lizardmen glyphs and spare banners and shield to the walls. There is lot of leftovers in my Warhammer bits box.
At first I was planning to make an offering pit or a viper pit below the temple. But since it was too much work and would add no play value, I'll stick to designing the exterior.

I'm in the flow...
My collection of painted miniatures is growing.
I've cut the logo's from GW's boxes. They're looking nice in my display case.

"Captain, we're approaching the city entrance."
"Heed those turrets hidden in the forest!
"Land Raider proceed to the city center."
"Blood, Angels, capture that unfinished* landing pad."
* The Tau landing pad still needs a bottom. Simple white cardboard will do fine.

Add imagination and it's a city!

Some of these items were in my storage for more than 5 years. But I once saw something special in them, and I still do.
All this stuff will become a giant city of the 40K Tau Empire. Wait and see, it'll be nice

In the expansion book Warhammer (Sixth Edition): The General's Compendium there is a step by step guide to create a Grave Hill. Or Tomb entrance. It inspired me to do this:
Some styrofoam leftovers from a nearby construction site, glued together.
I inserted a plastic doorway from Warhammer Quest, and fixed it with black TEC-7 glue.
Undercoated black with cheap acrylic paint.
And then painted brown because all my other hills are that color too. I wanted to keep some unity in my scenery collection.
There's gold in them hills! (Or a Liche...)

Go to Ikea. Buy yourself some cork heat pot stands. Use them as scenery bases. Cork is awesome stuff! It's strong, it's easy to glue. And when painted it looks like cobblestone road.
The plastic ruins are from the main game box of Warhammer Epic 40,000, a brilliantly clever designed tabletop game. Ignore the discussions on internet forums. This is an excelent game for gamers. Streamlined to the core, ideal for boardgamers who'd like to play wargames too.
All I did was spraypainting the cork and already it looks like a stone road/pavement. Wait until it's drybrushed! (Please wait until the year 2033, at my pace...)

Time for my constructed (but not fully painted) Beastmen and Dwarf armies to hit the gaming table. My mancave is not large, but I managed to install three polystyrene insulation plates as a table on top of my small desk. A large brown curtain will act as muddy ground.
Battle report will follow soon...
