Hi Everyone,
I have made the difficult decision to take a hiatus from maintaining this blog. This is a personal decision made because of changing responsibilities in real life and my own personal interests shifting away from PNP games in general.

PNP Games used to be one of my very favorite hobbies - I found it very enjoyable to cut and glue the pieces of a game and craft something new. But over the years, my hobbies and interests have moved to more family activities. I don't make nearly so many PNP games as I used to. Recently, maintaining this blog has felt more like a second job - writing about a hobby I used to have - rather than something I am doing because it brings me joy.

My life has changed professionally as well. When I started this blog, I had more time available to dedicate to games in general. For better or worse, as my career has grown, my free time has decreased. This has coincided with what feels like an explosion of PNP games recently. The volume of PNP games coming out feels like more than I could manage even if I had more time available. Especially with so many Kickstarters offering PNP trials of their games and many publishers releasing PNP content to help those stuck at home or out-of-work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even when I make posts with 60 updates, I feel constantly behind and stressed about the high volume of games in my backlog.

Before making this choice, I reached out to a few BGG friends and got some great advice. One individual wrote, "For me, I've found that I'm often passionate about specific hobbies and other interests (like sports) for about 3-6 years. If I take a break from a hobby for at least a year, I sometimes come back to it with renewed interest. If not, that's okay. It's just how I work." That really resonated with how I'm feeling and it is how I'd like to proceed. I'm going to take a break from this blog and see how I feel again in the future. I don't know if taking a break will eventually renew my interest in PNP or not - but either way, this is a step I need to take.

One of the reasons this is such a hard decision is I know that many readers around the world enjoy this blog and find value in it. It's hard stepping away from a hobby when you've shared it with so many others. Thankfully, there are many other ways to follow PNP games on BGG.
1 You can get updates about PNP in your subscription feed by subscribing to the PNP Category on BGG.
2 Geeklists such as Free Solo Print and Play and The Canonical List of Free Print-and-Play Games (links to the full series in the header of that Geeklist).
3 Current PNP Contests are maintained here: Current PNP Contest Info
4 Past PNP Contests are maintained here: Community PnP contests and winners
5 Information about Kickstarters with paid and free PNP options are maintained here: Kickstarters with PNP Versions Available
6 The PNP community is huge and I'm sure there are other voices that could do a much better job discussing other PNP games than I have. I'd encourage anyone who would like to be part of the community to start their own blogs, review PNP games, or share in other creative ways.

I'd also like to give a special thanks to those who supported this blog through Patreon and Paypal. Your support has been incredibly meaningful to me and I'm very happy that I did something you found value in. Going forward, I have suspended future payments on Patreon so no one should be billed again. I hope that you will find other content creators to share with.

Because I'm not sure what the future holds, I will not be opening up this blog to other contributors at this time. After taking some time off, I may want to come back to this hobby at some point so I don't feel ready to cut ties entirely.

Thank you again to everyone who read this blog! This has been a very fun journey and a great way to meet many amazing people. I wish you all the best and hope you keep enjoying the crafting and fun of these games!

Hello everyone! Welcome to another edition of the PNP News! I've still got several games from the summer to get caught up on, but in the meantime I wanted to cover some of the new games from September. There were a lot of very cool games released including two new PNP series, which I've highlighted in their own sections below.

There's also some fun news - this week I was chosen to be the 1 Player Guild's Sock Puppet of the Week. For those who aren't familiar, it's just a fun way for the 1 Player Guild to spotlight its members and do an AMA style thread. If you haven't already, stop by the thread, ask me a question, and venture a guess in my two truths and a lie.
Sock Puppet of the Week (#109)

Welcome back to the long-delayed PNP News! This may be one of the longest delays I've ever had between posts and I apologize for this. There were several real life issues that have come up the last few months, some of which were difficult and some which were very positive - but all requiring a lot of time. Things have finally started slowing down so I wanted to ease back into this block with the first of many catch-up posts.

I've highlighted 15 games in this post so that you don't have to wait for me to put together a giant post of 50 games. I figure it's better to do incremental updates both so that I don't burn myself out and good games don't disappear in a giant list.

Thank you everyone for your patience while the blog has been offline. It feels good to be back!

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the PNP News! In this post, I'll be covering the games released during the second half of March.

This post covers a wide variety of games both thematically and in amount of crafting required. There are a few roll-and-write style games that require no crafting - and a few large projects with lots of tiles and components. There's even an old World War 2 era game that is now available to PNP yourself! You'll find something here regardless of what type of PNP projects you like to do.

I'll be providing an update on the current PNP Design contests soon. In the meantime, let's get to the games!

New Games

Crazy Robot Factory with design and art by Joseph Propati
Crazy Robot Factory is a 1 to 4 player game. This is the newly re-released third edition of this awesome PNP game. In this game the, you run a robot factory and a software glitch caused the parts on the conveyor belt to get out of order. You've got to use programming cards to get everything back on track or else your parts will be destroyed. The PNP files include tiles, cards, and components for three different levels of play. I've played an earlier version of this and I think it is a lot of fun.

It simulates a real act of sabotage against a locomotive factory being used by the German forces. In the game, players are trying to gather the materials they need to sabotage equipment before the guards can find them. It is a roll-and-move game and the rules do not sound awesome so it probably isn't as interesting from a game mechanic perspective - but the game has a very unique history and it's awesome to have it available to everyone as a PNP. Game components are available in the image section with English rule translation in the file section.

Welcome to the PNP News! I'm a bit behind on both this blog and some of the design contest work. (It has been a busy month in the real life job.)

I've gone through my subscription feed and gathered up the games for the first half of March. I'll try to get the rest of the month - as well as April as soon as possible.

If you like your PNP games easy to make, you will find a lot to love in this post. There are several games from the 9 card contest which are all very easy to craft. There are also several roll-and-write games that require no crafting at all. Those who enjoy a larger PNP project will find a few wargames and children's games. Let's get to it!

PNP Design Contests

Upcoming Contests (maybe)
Two of my favorite hobbies are PNP games (obviously) and tinkering with simple electronics. I had the idea to combine the two into a PNP Design Contest where the games had some sort of electrical component. Think of games like Dark Tower, Operation, or Simon. At the moment, I'm trying to gauge interest from others in the PNP community. This contest could require purchasing some electronic hardware such as LEDs, wires, and microcontrollers to participate.
We are just talking about it right now. There are no dates set at this point and the contest may not actually happen if there isn't enough interest. If this is something that you might enjoy, please come to the discussion thread and share your thoughts.

2019 9 Card Game Print and Play Design Contest

The contest dates were recently extended (due to an illness and other personal delays on my end) and is now accepting entries until March 31, 2019. Voting Deadline: May 12, 2019
An additional note on this contest: Professor Ethan Ham (simenzo on BGG) has invited his students studying game design at Bradley University to participate in the contest. There are tons of new and unique games entered in the contest this year from these first-time designers. Come check them out!

2019 Two-Player Design Contest

New Games

Storm Over Dublin designed by Philip Jelley
Storm Over Dublin is a 2 player game. This is an area-impulse wargame covering the 1916 Easter Rising and the 1922 Battle of Dublin - both part of the Irish War of Independence. One player controls Irish rebels and the other controls the British government. The Irish must capture key government buildings and the British must regain control of the city, block by block. This game looks terrific in the photos! This is a large PNP project with 3 counter sheets and a nine page map.
