I'm all into minor conversions. Small change, great return.

You probably have noticed it too. Latest releases by Games Workshop Ltd. include miniatures larger than usual. You will notice this in 40K with the new Primaris Space Marines, the Primarchs and others. In Fantasy Battle they have these giant Chaos Marauders and the Sigmarines. I don't like it. See following picture for the size difference. This change in scale is getting out of hand.
(Scale comparison Games-Workshop Age of Sigmar miniature.)
I wish they didn't do this. It's probably a commercial move to make old players ditch their small mini's in favour of the new releases. But for reasons of compatibility I'll need to start buying mini's from other brands and forget GW's new releases.
I have a solution to make (older) smaller miniatures appear to be bigger. But the reverse is not quite possible.

The base game Necromunda 1.0 box came with plastic Goliath miniatures. Over the years I've been hoarding these guys because they were cheap on eBay... Now's the time to put them to good use. Let's get creative!
I needed some expansion for my Warhammer Norse army. With some clever kitbashing I came up with these beefy Marauders.

I have a new set of dice. They're issued by the Chaos god Tzeentch, a.k.a. Changer of Ways.
What a fitting set of dice. 7's! Now I'll win every Warhammer battle.

Warhammer: Norse
The northern regions of the Old World suffer from extremes of climate and geography unlike anywhere else. The dense dark forests, high barren mountains, icy seas and long winter nights conspire to make life here both hard and short. This cruel land known as Norsca is a home to the Norsemen - a race of men that are as fierce, brutal and
unforgiving as the landscape itself.
The text above inspired me to build a Norse army. (Text by Andy Jones and Bill King, from the Warmaster Trial Armies Compendium 2009.)
I went to my local GW store and bought my first Age of Sigmar box. The Chaos Marauders are perfect to use as Norse barbarians. But I couldn't find any on eBay and I was in a hyped hurry. I'll mix various barbarian miniatures from Talisman, Warhammer Quest,Dragon's Gate, HeroQuest and Confrontation with the Chaos Marauders.
The Huscarls regiment will have barbarians with Shields and Helmets. They are the richest of the Norse, and also the best fighters.
Miniatures with less armour will find in place in one of my two Bondsmen regiments. For the Huntsmen infantry I'll use some Chaos Thugs from Battle Masters again. (Not pictured.)
The wolfhide-clad warrior below could be a Shaman with some pet wolves. Or I could integrate them in an Ulfwerener regiment. Has to be decided later...
You gotta love the following miniature from D&D Forbidden Forest. He's a wizard with removeable cape, helmet and staff! Really incredible sculpt. It's cool without the staff. It's cool without the helmet. It's cool without the cape. Congratulations to the sculptor! With the right paint job I can use him as a Shaman Were Kin. There's one minor problem, the miniature is made from soft plastic. It will be hard to keep the future paintjob intact when playing.Norse Vitki Shaman (artist unknown)
If you're familiar with the Norse army lists, then you'll be able to guess what my plans are with the Ogre Kingdoms boxed set.Spoiler (click to reveal)A Norse War Mammoth!

You might have read it before, I like the comic series Black Moon Chronicles. All my Warmaster armies are based on characters and regiments from those books illustrated by Olivier Ledroit. And now I needed Ghorghor Bey to lead my Chaos army. For those who don't know him, he's some kind of an Ogre with intelligence. He's a ruthless warlord with humour. And he rides HUGE mounts.
So here's my humble take on sculpting him a 10mm miniature. I had a spare torso from a Chaos Dragon Ogre in my bits box. It wields a hammer instead of a giant cleaver, but I expect Ghorghor wouldn't mind.
I based the torso on a resin monster from Leviathan. I removed the feet of the original rider and glued some round plastic parts to represent shields, meanwhile hiding the roughly removed feet.
A spare plastic Snotling miniature from Warhammer Quest donated both his legs for a transplant. I feel like an Ork Painboy (= medic) now... all parts were merged together by using small dots of modelling putty from GW. It's clay that comes in two colors: yellow and blue. If you mould them for a while then the two components become a green clay that hardens after a while. This product is also called "greenstuff".
I really hope I don't mess it up when painting this custom miniature.

Another team for my Blood Bowl (Third Edition) game: Norse Raiders.
Those Chaos Thugs from Claymore Saga were in my bits box for too long. I can't really use them in a Warhammer Chaos army because they have no ranged troops. (So the story goes...)
I have been using some regiments in my Beastmen army to replace the Ungors with ranged weapons. This fits well into the background story of Beastmen cooperating with Chaos warbands.
But these 10 Thugs had their left arms removed and replaced with High Elf shield arms. They're all footballers now!
The yeti miniature from World of Warcraft: The Boardgame – The Burning Crusade will be used as a Snow Troll superstar. The Wolfen and Gnoll are also from the same board game. They'll be Ulfwereners (or werewolfs) for this Norse Blood Bowl team. I guess they'll become the top players soon.
Teams collected/built so far:
- The Empire
- Orcs
- Dwarfs
- Wood Elves
- Lizardmen
- Chaos
- Norse
Enough to host a game evening :-)
PS: The seated Conan and wife are metal Reaper miniatures and will be my coach and first assistent. The prepainted plastic woman to the right is from HeroClix and is the second assistent coach.

I've been hoarding various Chaos miniatures over the years. Now it's time to sort the Chaos chaos.
Zoom in to see what's hiding. There are quite some complete regiments to create from the heaps. It will be great fun to assemble them and take them to battle in Warmaster 28mm wars...
Here's a detailed look on some of my minor conversions. These three demons from hell have to be painted red. The wings are from Marvel HeroClix' Annihilus.Annihilus (HeroClix)
I am sorting my Beastmen miniatures too. Following maxi mino is my Doombull. He's ideal to lead my Warmaster 28mm Beastmen hordes.

And old (5 years ago) picture of an even older (15 years ago) paintjob.
These old guys are Wizards of Morcar. The Chaos Warrior serves as bodyguard. Tabletop quality. Fair enough to play.
I like following guys more: FIMIR! This is one of my typical minor conversions. Some repositionned legs and arms, a dash of paint, ready.
I have plans to do 7 more. Ten would make a good Warhammer Regiment for an Albion army...
