Miniature Games Construction Yard

In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too. The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster and Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition.

Two cuts, one in each thumb. I should be more carefull after replacing the cutter blade...

Anyway, got some Imperial Guard Elysian Drop Troopers prepped:

(I'll field them as Space Marine Scouts in drop pods.)

My Epic 40K Space Marines army will be from the "Raven Guard" chapter. That chapter has an easy paintscheme: black.

But I wanted to add one odd ally from another chapter. Just to create variation in modelling and painting. My choice for the allies is: Daemonhunters! These silverclad warriors will be a nice addition when fighting demonic forces...

The lads above are two regiments. One "Ordo Malleus Inquisitor" supreme commander regiment. And one regular Space Marine regiments.

The converted dreadnoughts above are my "Nemesis Dreadknights". (The swords are from Mantic's Elf sprues.)

The infantry stand above holds my Ordo Malleus Inquisitor Lord. The metal miniatures is from Exodus Wars Dark Realm. The guy reminded my of this picture from the Daemonhunters Codex:

Following infantry stand holds only two miniatures... but feared they are! Deathcult Assassin pairs will be used as Space Marine Scouts in my regiment.

(The assassins are a minor conversion, as usual: scalped Eldar Harlequins.)

Play Epic 40,000, add Mechwarrior: Dark Age, have Warhound Titans!

Plain and simple.

And my Space Marines are in need of some fast troops too:

Please note the minor conversion of one of the riders. He has a missile launcher added. He'll be the detachment's HQ.

Legendary dudes on horses. Their names are remembered.

So, I need them in my Imperial Guard army. They rock!

An easy conversion job: Cut a Captain in half. Remove the rider's torso. Apply glue. Combine. Done!

"A good soldier obeys without question. A good officer commands without doubt." - Lukas Bakstonne, Colonel, Imperial Guard.

The Silent Death: The Next Millennium Deluxe Edition miniatures find good use in my Warhammer Epic 40,000 armies. Not all of them will receive their standard transparant flying base. The ruins will serve as a replacement base and will provide a nice piece of scenery when displayed in my cabinet.

Fixing the Flyers

The Chimera transports are not easy to find, and not cheap. So I had to look for alternatives. That's where MechWarrior saved me AGAIN.

Leviathans! In the next picture you can see two massive transports for my Imperial Guard legion. I am using a slightly modified mobile command from MechWarrior to represent the Leviathans.

Just in front of the left Leviathan you can see the two radar dishes that were originally attached to the top of the miniature mega vehicle. I removed those, filed the surface so that it was perfectly smooth, and then glued two cannons on top. These plastic cannons came from the Epic Ork Gargant sprue.

Cannon fodder! The Imperial Guard army is all about cheap troopers. Win by numbers (and lasguns)! I never really fancied the Russian inspired version of the IG. The Cadians were hard to find, but I'm glad I can field more than 10 bases of them now.

Notes: Because I only have 4 stands of Catachans, they'll become my special forces. The decision to put only 4 Ogryns on one base makes painting them easier. I'll remove the cavalry from the long bases and pair them on the old school square bases from Space Marine.

This is an overview of the entire unfinished Orlock gang.

You can spot regular gangers, some juves, the Tau Auxiliaries from a previous blog post and heavies.
You can also spot a Tau Drone on the left of the picture. I'll include custom rules to use it in Necromunda games at the end of this blog post.

I have prepared 5 heavies; 1 missile launcher, 1 flamer, 1 heavy flamer, 1 grenade launcher and an auto-cannon.

This beast is a Carnodon* from the old tabletop game Leviathan. Two riders will be added.

(* It could also be a Gorathosaur, I don't know exactly anymore...)

When finished, all my gangers should like like this:

The Drone Gun Platform houserules:

Cost: 120 Credits (Rare item, buy between fights.)
One Drone Gun Platform per Leader. Fly up costs the same as regular movement. Flying down costs ½” per 1”. The Drone must land at end of move. Drone is not lost when controller is killed. The Gun Platform then returns to base. (Remove from board.) May not run, can hide. Arc of sight is 180°. Twin-linked Pulse Carbines. (Twin-linked: re-roll failed “to hit” rolls when shooting.) The Drone Gun Platform is destroyed when wounded. Counts as rapid moving target, so apply a -1 to hit when targeting a Gun Platform.

The guys in the picture are not for Warhammer 40K. These Tau Auxiliaries will join my new Necromunda Orlock gang.

I mixed items from the Catachan and Tau Fire Warriors sprues. The Pulse Rifles will cost 50 credits and have following characteristics:

Short 0-15 Long 16-30 Short / Long / S 5 Save Mod -2 Ammo 3+

Following guy wears night goggles. He looks a little bit like he's from Splinter Cell. (If I'd paint him black...)

I really like the dynamic pose, like he is drawing his knife to engage something in the trees.

Pulse Carbines could follow the rules for shotguns or these custom characteristics:

Short 0-9 Long 10-18 Short +1 Long / S 5 Save Mod -2 Ammo 3+
