Miniature Games Construction Yard

In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too. The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster and Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition.

The new kids on the block from GW: Primaris Space Marines.

I'd give them following stats in Warhammer Epic 40,000:

Support:
Primaris Space Marines Squad (1 unit)
20 points per unit
+7 points to add Rhino

Movement 10cm
Range 35cm
Firepower 1
Assault 3
Armour 4+
Rapid Fire, Stubborn

Now lets search for suitable 6mm miniatures... Or should that be 7mm miniatures?

Note: This is the continuation of my retrospective. Following blogposts will be about my old miniature paintjobs and scenery making. All images show work from +/- 15 years ago.

Warhammer Epic 40,000 was promoted with a bright yellow Imperial Fists army. I couldn't resist to paint my Space Marines in those chapter colors too. What a mistake I made! Yellow must be the most dreaded color to paint miniatures with. And back in those days there was no yellow basecoat spraypaint by Army Painter...

Still, I like what I see.

The ruins above were made by using all plastic ruins from the base game. I mounted them on two wooden boards and added various tiny details.

It's great to see all those little details like trees and barrels filled with toxic sludge. But in my experience this is not neccessary for 6mm games. It's better to use only a small color palette for the scenery. And all those tiny details won't have any use in the game anyway...

Since I don't own this scenery and miniatures anymore, I have quite a job to do... I want an Imperial Fists army again! And ruined cities!

It's a shame life gets in the way sometime... When I was a student I played many Warhammer Epic 40,000 battles. I even painted quite a lot of those 6mm miniatures.

Now when I see these images again after so many years, they bring back good memories. Have a good look at those Dark Angel Space Marine scouts. There's a tiny conversion for the sergeant.
The scenery looks good on picture. I was nice in real life too, but I remember that for a 6mm game it's better to have one large piece of scenery instead of several small ones. They looked too "scattered at random" on the table.

I don't have the original raw pictures anymore. Only these Photoshop compositions remain. But it's great to see how creative I was. laugh

The Landspeeder is a conversion made from a 40K shoulder pad and leftovers from slottabase sprues. Quite ingenuitive I might say. As a student I had to keep a lid on my wallet.

Now looking back at my old paintjobs I want to start painting again!

Like I mentioned before, I am creating armies of 600 points for Warhammer Epic 40,000. I want them fully painted and representative for each specific codex. The main idea is to use them as demo armies for me and friends.

With my Tau army almost finished, I can now also field a painted Space Marines army worth 600 points.

600 points - 3 detachments

The paintjob is not mine. modest I found them good enough for the price they were offered. I'll do some "patching up" but not until I finish painting my other armies.

For bigger battles my Ultramarines already have some decent reinforcements:

I have this retro Warhammer 40K army waiting to be finished. Let's say the job is 50% finished.

It's a standard infantry detachment. The only thing I wish to add are wolfriders.

This badass will become my Cyberwolf:

My Epic 40K Space Marines army will be from the "Raven Guard" chapter. That chapter has an easy paintscheme: black.

But I wanted to add one odd ally from another chapter. Just to create variation in modelling and painting. My choice for the allies is: Daemonhunters! These silverclad warriors will be a nice addition when fighting demonic forces...

The lads above are two regiments. One "Ordo Malleus Inquisitor" supreme commander regiment. And one regular Space Marine regiments.

The converted dreadnoughts above are my "Nemesis Dreadknights". (The swords are from Mantic's Elf sprues.)

The infantry stand above holds my Ordo Malleus Inquisitor Lord. The metal miniatures is from Exodus Wars Dark Realm. The guy reminded my of this picture from the Daemonhunters Codex:

Following infantry stand holds only two miniatures... but feared they are! Deathcult Assassin pairs will be used as Space Marine Scouts in my regiment.

(The assassins are a minor conversion, as usual: scalped Eldar Harlequins.)
