One of THE biggest reasons I visit board- and wargame conventions like CRISIS in Antwerp (Belgium) is second-hand shops. Private sellers trying to ditch their excess miniatures from their collections.
Look what I found! Second, third and fourth edition Blood Bowl (Second Edition) (star)players. "Boomer Eziasson", "Grim Ironjaw", "Bilerot Vomitflesh", "Wormhowl Grayscar" and many others. Yes, even a Chaos Dwarf. and now the best part: 2,- Euro each
And for those of us with sufficient age to have seen these blisters in the (FLG)Shops when they were new releases: vintage Necromunda goodies! With fair prices.
Miniature Games Construction Yard
In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too.
The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster, Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition and Lord ot Rings.

These green guys were on their way to eBay. The spare miniatures (with 1 replacement) have no real use for me, because I already have an Orc team.
But while I was gathering this gang of Orcs, my hobby-gen was flaring and I had the urge to start assembling them myself. And filling in gaps of the team with further replacements.
So, I went throught my Warhammer 40,000 bitsbox and found me three extra Orks. Ideal to pose as Black Orc Blockers.
Now I have one thrower, 4 blitzers (2nd edition), 6 line-orcs and 3 blockers. My love for glueing and cutting plastic satisfied
Team ready for the spraycans!

In this Blood Bowl match report we'll be fielding two 600,000 credit teams. The other players remain in the box.
Match highlights:
Kick-off!
Mighty Reserves
Going for it. Went for it.
Ball-bearer pushed back, but still standing!
Humans pass to safety but fail to catch...
Skaven retrieve the ball and paaaaaass!
Run 7 squares, going for it, goiiiing...
TOCUHDOWN!
Score: 1-0.
Sneaking past defenders
RAM! And K.O.
The Human defender runs all the way from the endzone towards the rat with the ball and rams him hard. Both attacker and defender go down. The Skaven is K.O. and sent off field. Unfortunatelly for the Humans, another Skaven picks up the ball and scores a touchdown.
Two fight. Third runs (and scores). Score: 2-0.
To keep this blogpost interesting I'll refrain from posting too much pictures of the second half. Here are the second half's highlights.
Strong Human breakthrough at the right.
The Skaven box the ball-bearer in but to no avail. The Humans throw a qiuick pass, catch the accurate pass, going for it, and score their first touchdown!
Accurate pass and TOUCHDOWN.
Score's now 2-1. After this touchdown by the Human, the Skaven try a long bomb pass but it is out of bounds. The throw-in is in favour of the Humans. They knock out 3 skaven. Then 4! That's a lot of wounded rats leaving the field. Then comes a quick pass, but the Humans fail to catch. A rat picks up the ball, but fails its dodge. Retrieved by the Humans, a second touchdown follows. Ending the match with a 2 - 2 score. What an awesome game this was. Thank you forviewingreading!

My Necromunda Goliath gang is too big already. And now with the new version of the game we will all end up with obsolete miniatures. The new Goliaths will be customizable and are waaaay better looking than their version 1.0 counterparts. So, what to do with all your old Necromunda miniatures?
Well, here is part 1 of my "Recycling Necromunda" blogpost series.
This guy is Mighty Zug, a star player for Blood Bowl (Third Edition). Conversion: an arm swap with a metal Warhammer Chaos Warrior swordarm, and a shoulderguard from the plastic Warhammer Marauders sprue.
Zug's ready to rumble!

The Skaven team for my Blood Bowl league was built straight from my bitsbox. But these hungry critters ate eachothers tails...
Spare tails are hard to find on eBay so I had to be inventive. There was a certain HeroClix miniature with a tattered cape. I cut it to pieces and there were my replacement tails!
Tec-7 glue is strong and rigid enough to glue the tiny pieces.
I even got a teamname out of this conversion: The Skaven Redtails !

Blood Bowl (Third Edition) is hot! GW is releasing new edition of the game. I'll stick with third edition. Some teams are still missing from my collection. Dark Elves was one of them.
I scored a bunch of Dark Eldar Warriors and Whyches on the CRISIS Wargames Convention. To build my team I'll combine these with Wood Elves and High Elves bits from my bitsbox.
The three "OldHammer" heads on Dark Eldar torso's will represent Blitzers. Two Whiches will be used as Witch Elves. The rest of the box will be used for my future Necromunda Esher Gang.
I won't be building Runners nor Assassins. Converting up to eight Linemen will be enough top form a top team.
By selecting shield-arms and archer-arms from High Elves and Wood Elves plastic sprues I was able to give the miniatures a Blood Bowl look and feel.
Next team: I want an undead team but I don't have enough skeletons... yet... So I'll put a Nurgle team together by using old Beastmen and Mantic Ghouls...

My second test-match. And I was honestly surprised AGAIN how smooth and immersive this fast game is.
Lizardmen took the kick-off and Dwarfs picked up the ball. Immediatelly three Saurus players stormed forward. That must have been quite an impressive sight for the Dwarf runner.
He ran away at safe distance from the Saurus players, ready to pass.
The pass failed initiatelly but was later recovered.
The Dwarf runner got blocked and KO'd.
Yet again, the Dwarfs stallwardly recovered and made a run for it.
Which eventually resulted in a touchdown!
Dwarfs 1 - Lizardmen 0
The Dwarfs kick off but the Skinks fail to pick up the ball and it scatters! The stunties are slow but still manage to reach the ball and steal it from the Lizardmen.
They are dangerously close the the end-line and ready to score a second touchdown... Ooow nooooo, a failed pass! The ball bounces around but does not get in reach of the Dwarf blitzer.
The Skinks take the ball, pass and run. They manage to get past all Dwarf blockers. Will this be the equalizer?! Only seconds away from the final whistle...
ALAS! The Lizardmen just-not-make-it! Only 7 squares away from the touchdown. This was close. Very exiting win for the Dwarfs!
While I'm not the best writer, I can still guarantee you this game is very fast-flowing and story-telling. I'm ready for the next game!

Another team for my Blood Bowl (Third Edition) game: Norse Raiders.
Those Chaos Thugs from Claymore Saga were in my bits box for too long. I can't really use them in a Warhammer Chaos army because they have no ranged troops. (So the story goes...)
I have been using some regiments in my Beastmen army to replace the Ungors with ranged weapons. This fits well into the background story of Beastmen cooperating with Chaos warbands.
But these 10 Thugs had their left arms removed and replaced with High Elf shield arms. They're all footballers now!
The yeti miniature from World of Warcraft: The Boardgame – The Burning Crusade will be used as a Snow Troll superstar. The Wolfen and Gnoll are also from the same board game. They'll be Ulfwereners (or werewolfs) for this Norse Blood Bowl team. I guess they'll become the top players soon.
Teams collected/built so far:
- The Empire
- Orcs
- Dwarfs
- Wood Elves
- Lizardmen
- Chaos
- Norse
Enough to host a game evening :-)
PS: The seated Conan and wife are metal Reaper miniatures and will be my coach and first assistent. The prepainted plastic woman to the right is from HeroClix and is the second assistent coach.

Give or take 10 years ago I played my first Blood Bowl (Third Edition) demo match. I've been collecting bits and scraps of the game since then. Now that my game is complete, it's time to learn and play!
Handbook ready, two teams ready, replacement D6's and D8 ready, DIY throwing chart ready, playmat ready. LET'S PLAAAAAAY!
The Lizardmen kicked off and the Orcs picked up the ball and threw it far left. Unfortunatelly the Orc Blitzer didn't catch the ball and it ended up out of the pitch.
After the throw in by the (un)friendly crowd, a Skink play picked up the ball and blitzed away like lightning. Supported by a heavy Kroxigor that blocked a lot of Orcs he ran for it.
But one Orc stood in it's way. "Y'er goin nowhere reptile!" The poor Skink was blocked and the ball recovered by the Orc team. They made a run for a touchdown on the left flank but one long bomb pass didn't go well and it was the end of the first half. 0-0. Undecided! (Because I quit the game after this. I feel acquainted enough with the rules to start demoing it to friends.)
PS: The gaming mat is from http://www.blockhaus82.com .
