Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2019!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 400 450 games!

Steph's Awesome Gaming Calendar 2020 is now for sale!
https://stephsshop.ecwid.com

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

November List
from Worst to Best

Going Postal:

Going Postal or Going Mental. Man, I just hated this game. No good choices and no good strategies. Pretty sure any game is better.

1/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Animania:

I have to say, I really dislike games that can end in one turn. Hard pass for me.

2/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Grizzly:

Light kids/family game. Seemingly cute for the younger crowd. Looking back at my game logs, I apparently won this game. That is how exciting this game was to me - I didn't even remember that I won. Definitely forgettable. Not a game I would want to play again.

2/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Uno Flip!:

I think Flip is an interesting twist on UNO. However, it is still Uno and not a game I would choose to play. Still, it was interesting to try out.

3/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Monster Chase:

Cute for young kids. Really simple for adults. Happy to have tried it, but I don't want to play again.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Majolica Painting:

I figured I couldn't go wrong with coloring. Playing was more work than fun, however. I would rather just color in the picture than play again.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Kingsburg: The Dice Game:

Super huge letdown. Long turns and long downtime make for a long game. I would rather just play Kingsburg. Not sure they playtested this one. So many things could have been changed to make it a better experience.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Tussie Mussie:

I can see this being a fun, little, quick game for some people. But there are so many other games with the "I split/you choose" mechanic that are much more interesting. I wanted to love it, but for me, it was a miss.

3.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Quickpick: Island of Monster Masks:

I love the art and the cute monster faces, but overall, this is probably not a game I will want to play again. Would rather play a game like Emojito!.

3.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Alubari: A Nice Cup of Tea:

Not a fan of Snowdonia, and Alubari is Snowdonia with some tea. I would be happy to never play this again.

3.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Codex: Card-Time Strategy – Core Set:

1v1 card driven battle games aren't really my type of game, so this is not one I would want to play again. Glad to stick through and try it, though. It could be fun for the right crowd. Big negative having a moldy box.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Polar Rush!:

Cute memory-type game and definitely enjoyable for younger kids. I don't need to play again or to keep my copy, but it was fun to try.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

On the Dot:

Very simple speed/pattern-matching game. So many games like it, I can't see playing it again. There really isn't much there, but I suppose it is a filler game to play whenever you are waiting around for a few minutes.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Cutthroat Caverns:

I can see this being a big hit with the right gamers. I am not really one for this type of game, however. Lots of take-that and vicious gameplay. Liked the quality of the anniversary edition, though.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Vivaldi:

Not a fan of hidden partners in games. I dislike Mü & More and this is only slightly better. Maybe I just don't get it. It is a bizarre game, and not one I would care to play again.

4.5/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

It's Blunderful:

Silly party game where you are trying to guess other players’ answers while betting and laughing. Not sure it stands out among other party games, but I was happy to try it.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Paris: New Eden:

Winning majorities really helps you gain points and progress with your engine. But I didn’t win any majorities in the first round, and it really left me sour. I’m not saying I won't play again, because I would, but I would likely find a different dice drafting game to play first.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Fast Sloths:

This game just doesn't excite me at all, and there is even a unicorn. Racing games just aren't my jam. I wanted to love it but it just didn't click for me. Happy I got to try it, though.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Coloma:

I love simultaneous action selection games. But I’m not sure any of the actions I was doing mattered, and they weren’t interesting. It just went on too long, so I could give or take this.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Squire: The Collector of the Glorious Rarities:

The rolling market and the lovely cover artwork were the only interesting things in this game. Forgettable set collection game that I don't have to play again.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Orchard Ocean:

While I wouldn't mind playing again, it’s not high on my list. It was all just too fiddly. There are other tile placement games out there I would rather play.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Ducks in Tow:

So quacking cute. Love the duck meeples and the whole theme of the game. But ultimately, it is a light pick-up-and-deliver game and that’s just not my favorite mechanic. Not for me.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned - Prototype)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Wizard Würfelspiel:

It was a cute game, but there are other push-your-luck games I would rather play. This is really just luck-of-the-dice with little control over what happens. More interesting when the cards are used. Happy to have tried this one, but probably not one I will play again.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Orléans Stories:

Sadly, this just didn't rub me the right way. There’s no opportunity to explore different strategies. The game forces you down certain paths, and if you don’t follow them, you’re eliminated while everyone else keeps playing. I would rather just play Orléans.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Formosa Tea:

There was just a lot thrown at me in this game. After playing this once, I can see how I will change up my actions next time and focus more on particular types of teas. I would try again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Felt more like work than fun.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Workshop Tonttu:

Pretty simple game. I love the theme and the colors. It is all just fun. I would happily play this one again, but I am not sure I have to own it. Would make for a fun game during a Christmas-themed game day.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Fireworks:

Fireworks is a pretty cute game. I like the tile-placement but I am not a fan of the dexterity element and the random card events. Would play again.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Florenza Dice Game:

Lots of interesting ideas but it’s much too open. Really could benefit from more restrictions on dice manipulation. Happy I got to try it, but I am definitely ho-hum on it.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Butterfly:

I enjoyed playing this set collection game. Not much to it, but I can see some strategy in which tiles you take and opportunities to make others take tiles you might not want. Very simple and definitely one for the family.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Draw Your Own Conclusions:

Cute drawing game where each player uses a different shape to form a picture for someone to guess. Fun to see what people come up with. Happy to play again but not my favorite drawing game.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Decktective: Bloody-Red Roses:

I enjoy the one-and-done games of this genre. I had fun with this one, so I definitely want to check out other Decktective titles that show up. First one seemed pretty easy, but maybe they will get harder.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Nova Luna:

While the game is gorgeous, I don't think there is really room in the collection for this and all of the other games with similar mechanics. It mostly reminds me of Habitats with a Patchwork mechanic. But, in the end, I would happily play again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Tattoo Stories:

Fun to draw an image with a bunch of different things and make them all work together. One of the better drawing party games I have played, but still doesn't compare to Pictomania.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Yukon Airways:

As I am not generally a fan of pick-up-and-deliver games, I wasn't expecting to love this one. Turned out to be better than I thought. I really enjoyed the dice mechanic. I don't mind the randomness of the cards - you just have to try to plan better. I think there is more to explore here and I would be happy to play again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Tajuto:

Very simple game that is fun to play with a unique tactile mechanic that makes it stand out from other games of this weight. Definitely a game worth checking out. I would happily play it again but I don't have to own it. Enjoyable!

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Barrage:

Barrage was a bit long for my taste, which is why it wasn't a 'hit' for me. I enjoyed what I was doing and the puzzles I was trying to solve. I like the cool wheel mechanic. Lots to like about this game, so I want to play again.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Fire!:

Cute Space Invaders card game for 1-2 players. Challenging to figure out when to push your luck or play it safe. Really difficult modes to play through. Fun.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Wavelength:

Fun times playing this party game! We had some good laughs. Better with with bigger groups. I definitely think it is a great convention game and will look to play it again.

7/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Trogdor!! The Board Game:

Totally hilarious and fun game. I would definitely recommend this game for any Trogdor fan! We had a great time burninating the peasants! lol!

7/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Sarkophag:

I have to say, I had a great time playing. Same game as Little Devils but with a better theme. I will want to play this again for sure! And now I have another Halloween game!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Anubixx:

Roll n write, beautiful colors, Egyptian theme - I was all in! Anubixx has a light race aspect where you will earn points for the symbols you collect first. You will also earn points for monuments you construct. Most points will win. Nothing new, but still very enjoyable.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Pictures:

Love the use of materials in this game. Being creative is fun and this works as a great party game. Not one I would play often but would gladly play more of.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Carillon:

Very much like Coloretto, with card placement for the set collection. You have to arrange your cards in a particular pattern for sets in the rows and columns to score points. It can be tricky, but it is a fun puzzle to get the bells in the right places. I enjoyed it!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Aquatica:

I enjoyed the card management and different combos you can create, but nothing felt new or exciting. Still, Aquatica is definitely a game I would want to play again because of the solid mechanics.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Skytopia: In the Circle of Time:

Skytopia is an engine-building, dice-placement game where you gain buildings to your sky city in order to generate coins and points. Basically, take the card activations from Deus and add in the dice mechanic from Biosphere and you get Skytopia. I enjoyed the game and would gladly play again.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Astrolabe:

Astrolabe is a pretty simple dice-drafting game with straightforward rules. I can see this being a hit with any group. It will be hitting Kickstarter next year and will be one to check out for sure. This is one I will be wanting to play more of.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Promenade:

This was a pretty fiddly game with a lot of upkeep depending on the cards people are buying and displaying. With that being said, it is still one I enjoyed. It is fun to try and manipulate the market to work in your favor. Definitely a game I want to play again.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

It's a Wonderful World:

Love drafting games so it is no surprise I enjoyed this. Figuring out which cards to pitch for immediate resources or to keep and build is a difficult choice. Enjoyed the game and will play again for sure.

7/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Arkham Horror: Final Hour:

Final Hour is a super-challenging game and we did the best we could! I had a great time trying to make it all work. Not knowing what Cthulhu was going to do each turn was a bit nerve-wracking. I felt like we could have died at any moment. I like that tension.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Noch mal so gut!:

This game will still run about the same length as Noch Mal, which was always a bit too long in my past experiences. But I do think this is MUCH better than Noch Mal and I would always choose to play this over the original. I enjoyed it and will want to play again for sure.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Offshore:

I have to say, it was super easy getting into this game. Interesting semi-cooperative choices to gain bonuses. Definitely a game I would want to revisit!

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Tapestry:

Enjoyed this! There is certainly a lot to think about with regards to the different tracks. I most enjoyed the struggle to build the small buildings for income and to fill in the grid with the houses. The military and area control parts were less exciting. Gorgeous production, and one I would like to play again.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords – Base Set:

MOAR Pathfinder. Several games in, and it is playing out like the others, but not as much fun as Mummy's Mask. I am playing as a fighter again, so that's fun.

7/10 After 10 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Deckscape: The Curse of the Sphinx:

I have to say, I was impressed with this one. While most of the challenges were difficult, they weren't impossible. I would highly recommend this one to people who like escape games. Sphinx was really cool.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Thor:

I really enjoy the small box that Thor comes in vs the huge Wildlife Safari box. I think this is probably a keeper. I enjoy the tension of the uncertainty with how the cards will fall. It is fun.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Miyabi:

Tile-placement and puzzly game from Haba. Reminded me a bit of NMBR 9, which is great. Love the different game challenges you can play with. Happy to own it.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Homebrewers:

I love the use of dice in this game. I look forward to checking out the other player abilities and seeing how I can best brew my next batch of beer. Quite enjoyed playing this one.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Ecos: First Continent:

I enjoyed this with 2 players even with some AP moments for us. Can't imagine playing with lots of players as the downtime would be a dealbreaker for me. Fun use of cards, though a bit fiddly. Really loved the elements bag and how the board is created.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Last Bastion:

Man, I love a good challenge. We had a great time playing. I haven't played Ghost Stories enough to know if you should own both games, but I know I definitely want to play both Ghost Stories and Last Bastion again soon! I want to win!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Azul: Summer Pavilion:

My favorite of the Azul titles. More puzzly and less cutthroat. Wild tiles each round help to fill in gaps. Really gorgeous game.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Similo:

Compact deduction game. Plays very much like One Key but is only a deck of cards. A must-have for any collection for a quick, on-the-go travel game. Lovely art too!

7.5/10 After 3 plays (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Mind Extreme:

This is sort of like the love child of The Game and The Mind. It won't surpass The Mind, but I like what it is doing. If you like The Mind, The Mind Extreme should be on your list of games to try. Definitely one to play more of.

8/10 After 3 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Die Crew: Reist gemeinsam zum 9. Planeten:

Very enjoyable cooperative trick-taking card game with so many different challenges to complete. I want to win them all and become a master of Die Crew! Very fun!

8/10 After 3 plays (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Deep Blue:

Deep Blue is a fun, easy-to-play game with some push-your-luck elements. A game I will definitely want to acquire and play more of. Totes fun!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Masters of Renaissance: Lorenzo Il Magnifico – The Card Game:

I had a great time playing this engine-building game with a cool marble mechanic. Super quick and easy to play. This game really impressed me and is one I will be looking to add to my collection for sure.

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Yin Yang:

Yin Yang is such a clever game and uses a coin flip mechanic. I can't wait to play this one again! Really a surprise hit for me! #recommended!

8/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Game of the Month!

Maracaibo:

I have to say, I wasn't sure about Maracaibo after wading through the rulebook. Having now played it, I quite enjoyed my play, and everything seemed to work really well together. It is even better that there are so many paths to victory. I very much look forward to playing again and seeing what the legacy component has to offer!

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

New to me Expansions!

Shifting Realms: Darkness Revealed:

I had fun with one of the new realms, Gehenna, which I thought integrated with the base game really well. I want to check out the other realm soon and see how that one plays out. The other realm is a Labyrinth! How cool! Looking forward to more plays.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 400 games!

Steph's Awesome Gaming Calendar 2020 is now for sale!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10

October List
from Worst to Best

Zoomate:

No real choices to be made. I can't think of a time I would want to play this game again. It is definitely not a game for me, even though I love the little animal creatures.

2/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

BEERU and Sausages:

Cute bear case, but overall not a game I would play. It is almost like a game of LCR. I wanted to love it, but it just wasn't for me.

3/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Mazins:

It is colorful and striking, but no depth at all. Probably best for young kids. Not a game for me.

3/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Meeple War:

I don't like head-on attacking games like this. Choices were minimal and uninteresting. Not a game I would care to play again.

3/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Trainmaker:

Mostly just boring. Seen it before: dice rolling to create sets to gain cards. Meh.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Sock Game:

This is a cute game. It will never be one I will frequently play, but I could be convinced to play again. Really not much there though. Lots of interesting bits.

4/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

In Full Bloom:

Super quick and super light. Not much in the way of strategy. Love the colors and artwork and theme, but this is not a game I will frequently play.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Escape: Zombie City:

If you are a fan of the original Escape game, with lots of rolling of the dice and working against a timer, I think you will have a good time with this theme change-up. I could play again, but really, I would rather play something else.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Alchemidus:

Uninteresting puzzle speed game. Glad to have played, but I wasn't really impressed, so on it moves to the sale pile.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Cobra:

Cute game. Pretty fun for a game with a 2007 publishing date. There are better dexterity games out there now, but I would be happy to play this one again.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Previously Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Captain Silver:

Very simple kids game, and I like the time pressure of trying to find an item before the other player does. Totally perfect for families with younger kids. I could easily play this one again. It is not one I would request but I was pleasantly surprised.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Cat Sudoku:

Like Sudoku, this game is more of an activity. I kind of wish there was more of a challenge than to just not screw up. Not sure this one will hold out for repeated plays, but there are different levels of difficulty depending on the different boards you use, so I at least want to play through the different boards and find out.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Colorful Treasure:

Colorful Treasures is a pretty light game that is good for kids and families and is very easy to learn. I don't mind playing this one and would play again if requested. It is definitely gorgeous.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Oath of the Brotherhood:

It was okay, but for the length and cut-throat gameplay, I am not sure it will stay in the collection much longer. Happy to have tried it and would play again if asked.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Power On!:

The added dexterity element is bizarre and interesting. Simple to play, and fun to play after a game of Electropolis. I think it is wise for them to release 2 games in the same universe at the same time. And they are different types of games, which is also cool. I enjoyed this one and will definitely play again if requested.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path:

Crimson Throne has been my least favorite Pathfinder to date. It is overly complex and there is a lot to remember at any given time, so If you are a new player, I would recommend trying the other sets first. With that being said, there is a lot to like about the new Crimson Path. I really enjoy the hour cards, new characters, and harrow abilities. I'd recommend it for experienced players looking for a new adventure.

6.5/10 After 27 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Feudality:

Cute game. For a quick random game with adorable tiles, I will keep it and play infrequently. Enjoyable for a time.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Touria:

I had a good time with this one. Pretty fun, especially for a pick-up and deliver game. I would certainly play it again. It is on the edge of the keep/sell line, so maybe one more play will toss it one way or the other. Enjoyable for sure.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Dragon Market:

Abstract set collection game that totally fits in the Blue Orange Games line up of games alongside titles like Blue Lagoon. Simple rules and easy to play. I really enjoyed playing this one and look forward to playing again soon with more players.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Geometric Art:

Geometric Art reminds me of a more streamlined Stamp Graffiti. I love that it plays cooperatively and competitively. It is fun to see what everyone can come up with. I had a great time playing this one and will play again!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

Dadaocheng (2nd edition):

I am pleased to say this is definitely a step up from the previous edition. I really like the different tracks and new styles of gameplay. More event cards and different buildings really make the game more fun. I look forward to playing it again really soon!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Drachenhort:

Not sure why this never got a US printing. I think it would be a huge hit in Target stores alongside other Ravensburger titles. I would definitely play this again. I had a fun time!

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Bloom Town:

Bloom Town delivered in the fun category. I love city-building games so it was no surprise, and I love how quick it is. It is easier than other games in the category like Quadropolis. I can see this being a great family game or entry-level game. Makes for a perfect filler while waiting on other tables to finish at game day. Good times with this one.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Best Treehouse Ever: Forest of Fun:

I like the new goals and the player abilities. Likely better at higher player counts. Enjoyable and would be a great addition if you already enjoy Best Treehouse Ever.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

UBike Tour: Taiwan:

I really had a great time playing this one. It feels fresh and it certainly helps that it is all-around cute. I will be happy to play this one again soon!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Trails of Tucana:

This game was pretty fun. I will always enjoy playing it, like most roll n write games. I like that there are different options for how to play and I am excited to try the advanced variant.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Horrified:

Horrified is so colorful and vivid, which is visually appealing. Since there are tons of role cards and monsters to fight, I very much look forward to taking on new monsters and having a different ability each time. It really is a perfect Halloween game! Easy to learn and play and fun for everyone. Very cool game and I hope to play again soon!

7/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Dawn of Mankind:

I love that this game plays out so quickly. The turns are fast and it keeps me engaged in the gameplay. And there is a lot of content in a small box. I really enjoyed this one and I would definitely recommend it.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Cities: Skylines – The Board Game:

For the most part, I enjoyed this game. I had a fun time puzzling out the best cards to play and when. It is probably best as a solo game. I look forward to trying it again.

7/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Walking in Provence:

I really enjoyed this super light and puzzley game. I think it plays better than Honshu and Hokkaido. Provence is more streamlined and easy to pull out and play which makes it a better target to play as a filler game. Also, the photography theme is a super added bonus! I love that so much! Beautiful production and a game I look forward to playing again.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Board Game Cafe Frenzy:

Board Game Cafe Frenzy is so charming and clever! I will definitely want to revisit this one soon. I am always looking out for interesting card games and this definitely didn't disappoint.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Castello Methoni:

An interesting abstract game to claim regions. I enjoy that you have to help your neighbors even when you don't want to. Clever mechanic and this is definitely a game I want to play again.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Embark:

Embark is a solid game that didn't disappoint. I really like the hidden action selection, and I love that all of the island boards are double-sided for lots of replayability. I will be happy to play this one again!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Aristocracy:

I quite enjoyed this simplistic and entertaining game. There’s a bit of set collection, a bit of path building, and a bit of region control going on. I like the uncertainty of the variable game length. This is a keeper for the TMG shelf. Great stuff.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Carnival of Monsters:

Wow, I loved this game. I am not surprised, since I love drafting games so much. I love the weird creatures and the pressure to maintain your coins. I can't wait to play again.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Paranormal Detectives:

Nice twist to a game like Mysterium. It’s fun using all the different techniques to convey an idea or to figure out the mystery. Really enjoyed my first few plays of this and look forward to playing more!

8.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Game of the Month!

The Magnificent:

The Magnificent is magnificent. I love everything about this game - the options and possibilities, the art and production. It has everything I love and it simply blew me away. I don't know how any other game being released at Spiel ‘19 could be better than this. I am more than thrilled to add this to the collection and play again!

9.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

New to me Expansions!

Aeon's End: Shattered Dreams:

Nothing really out of the ordinary. New Nemesis, new mage, and tons of cards. More content is always good!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Aeon's End: Buried Secrets:

Lots and lots and lots of cards! Enough for nearly 2 games of content. Definitely adds to the replay value. Very cool!

8/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2019!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 400 games!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

September List
from Worst to Best

kNOW!:

A game where you use Google Assistant (GA). Using GA would be fun if it actually worked well. For me, it was more frustrating than fun to have to deal with GA. Without GA, you just have a simple party game with not much depth. In general, this one was a miss for me. Not looking to play it again.

3/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Towers of Äm'härb:

I think the production in this game is awesome and I love the wooden discs and the glow in the dark cover. For me, the gameplay was pretty basic and not that interesting. I was always able to take the best available spot for me and I didn't have that tension of having to pay a ton of resources. I don't know, but for me, this game just wasn't enough to keep me interested, but it is harmless and fast. I could play again, if requested.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

BOLD:

Cute family game and easy for kids to play. This totally would have been a game I would have played growing up if it had been around. It will appeal to many casual gamers. I am not sure Bold has enough there for me to want to play again, but it is harmless.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Stephenson's Rocket:

This is just not a game for me at all. Trying to plan in this game just doesn't work at all because nothing you plan for will happen. I love the production on this new edition, but this is unlikely a game I will return to.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Common Threads:

Fast memory and matching game. 4 games in the box for variety. Light and quick for casual gamers or end-of-night closing game. Not a favorite, but I could play again.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

UNO Dice Game:

I don’t mind playing this game, but I wouldn’t choose to play this one over any of the other Mattel roll n writes. It was quick and painless though. Good for families and kids. I think it will sell well at Target because everyone knows Uno!

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Potemkin Empire:

I can’t say I loved this one. It is painful to lose your buildings early on. I love the artwork and the idea behind it, but it just wasn’t a great experience for me. I wouldn’t mind playing again, but I won’t request it.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

1 2 3 Good Night:

This game is super cute with wonderful art and super easy to play with kids. I like that the images don't match exactly and it isn't always clear which image goes with another. It's fun. I would prefer playing with fewer players next time, but I would be happy to play again.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Kung Fur Fight!:

I want to love this game for the artwork alone. The gameplay is not bad. I generally like games with simultaneous card selection like this one. It was hard losing battle after battle for a few rounds. But the game is so fast, it didn't take long for me to die, so it didn't bother me too much. I could easily play this one again, especially since it is so stinking cute!

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Lowdown Dice Game:

Lowdown is a game I would be happy to play again. However, it didn't wow me, and I would rather play a bunch of other roll n write games before this one. I am pretty neutral on it.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Race for the Chinese Zodiac:

Simultaneous card selection is interesting. Some powers seem much better than others. I felt I had a pretty easy time winning this game. Didn't really feel like a racing game. Pretty though, and one I could play again.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Queen of Hansa:

There is a lot to like about this game. I just wish the market values were handled differently. I love the art and the style of gameplay. Much to enjoy with this one and I look forward to trying again.

6/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Carrossel:

It will be interesting to play this with more players. It will probably be easier to only have to deal with one region a turn, but it might be harder to evaluate what other people are doing so you can figure out how to optimize your tiles. Beautiful game and simple to play and learn, so it’s a great choice for families and casual gamers.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Little Dragons:

Super cute game. I mean, who doesn't love some baby dragons?! SO CUTE!! It worked well enough with 6 players. I still got a bunch of eggs and I didn't feel like I was missing out on too much. I do think it will play better with 4 players, though. Super light and family-friendly, so it is probably not for the serious gamer. But I am happy to play it again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Shuffle Grand Prix:

Shuffle Grand Prix was easy to learn and offered more choices than I expected, which was great. I love how you can combine the character decks for a unique experience each time. I don't think it will be a game I will frequently play but it is light-hearted and enjoyable, so I would be happy to play again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Tsuro: Phoenix Rising:

A nicely updated version of Tsuro. Different enough from other Tsuro games. I had a good time trying to puzzle out my paths and I love the production on this game. This is one I would easily play again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Mint Cooperative:

Way better as a cooperative game than the original Mint Works. This was super challenging, though really fiddly with the stunt cards. Not bad and one I could play again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Prototype)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Into The Black Forest:

I had a pretty good time playing this one and would most definitely play it again. I don’t know if the gameplay will get stale over time. There are a ton of quick card games, so we will see if this has legs. It is definitely harmless and easy to play.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Planetoid:

Planetoid is fairly simple to learn and play, and it plays out really quickly, which is nice. I found it interesting to manage your energy each turn. I definitely think the advanced game was the right game for me to first try out. All in all, I had a fun time playing this one and I would definitely play it again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Kung Fu:

I liked Kung Fu, and everyone else really enjoyed playing it too. Didn’t really expect much going in but was pleasantly surprised. I will definitely play better in my next playthrough, at least making it to the 3rd round! Cute game and one I am happy to play again soon.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Timeline: Inventions:

I hadn't played any Timeline games before and I had a mix of a whole bunch of editions, so I just picked one. You play one, you've played them all, amirite? Cool game, but I am terrible with dates, so this won't ever be a go-to filler. But it is nice to have it!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Skip-Bo Dice Game:

I really enjoyed playing this one. I grew up with Skip-Bo so this hit home for me. Might not be as big of a hit for those who don't appreciate the card game. This is much faster anyway and I would always choose to play the dice game over the card game.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Soulaween:

I think this is an adorable abstract game. I love the production and artwork. Everything about this game is solid and any fan of abstract games will appreciate this one. Simple to learn and play and one I could easily play anytime.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Dekalko:

Dekalko is a fun drawing party game and one I would be happy to play anytime! I had a good time playing this and I love that it plays 6 players easily.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Shadow Rivals:

Shadow Rivals is a quick game and I had a fun time playing. Unfortunately, the iconography is not very clear. This is not a game I will play very frequently, but I will be keeping it around to play occasionally. It is a clever game with tactical choices.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Antiquity Quest:

Card players will enjoy this one since it has that familiar feeling of classic games. I can play this with anyone and will have a great time. I quite enjoyed it and all of the rainbow colors. I would be happy to play this one again!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Colors of Paris:

I think Colors of Paris is pretty good. It's so quick that I don't get caught up in trying to do too many things. It doesn't feel long, like Pastiche does. I really like the mechanic where you leave one worker behind. I would love to try all the different painter abilities. Beautiful game. This is one I would be happy to play again.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Trial of the Temples:

The rules are simple and the gameplay is pretty streamlined. I feel like this could be a nice step up from Splendor-type games for new players. Since it is so gorgeous, it should be easy to find players to play. The 2-player rules are a bit different, so I look forward to playing again with more players. Very enjoyable game!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Roll for Adventure:

I had a great time playing. Light with fun choices and lots of dice rolling. I look forward to trying it with the fun group to see if we can win with 4 players. This is definitely a perfect family game that is easy to understand and fun to play. I would be happy to play this one more.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Trismegistus: The Ultimate Formula:

At the end of the day, I enjoyed playing Trismegistus, even if it was less than perfect with all of the rules issues. However, I doubt I will frequently play it due to its complexity. Teo is much easier, IMO. Tris is far more abstract in how you have to think throughout the game. It will be interesting to see how people respond to this one. I want to play again with people who already know and enjoy the game and I think that will help me to like it more.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Blokus Dice Game:

I love Blokus and I love roll n writes, and these two things work well together. Happy to play this one anytime. More Blokus is always a good thing!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Adventure Games: The Dungeon:

I am not very far into the first adventure, but I am loving the experience so far. I am excited to continue and see the 2nd and 3rd parts! Any fan of the Exit-type games will appreciate this one, I am sure! I can't wait for the app to be incorporated with the game so it will read the interactions instead of us having to fish through the lengthy book for our answers.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Rurik: Dawn of Kiev:

A lot of moving mechanics in this game. I really enjoyed the bidding for actions mechanic. There is a bit of area control, which is something I am less fond of, but overall I enjoyed this one.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Porto:

Porto was a lot of fun and super easy to learn. I like that I wasn’t able to win the solo game. It only makes me want to play more and actually win! I think Porto is a gorgeous game and it will be great to play with more players as well. I can see how timing is so important since the game end will trigger when enough roofs have been completed. Perfect for casual gamers who like games under an hour.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Old West Empresario:

This game was a lot of fun. I love everything about it, especially drafting and placing tiles to create a city engine of awesome actions. There are a lot of paths to take and choices to make which really keeps me interested throughout the game. This is one that will stay on the shelf next to Pioneer Days - it looks very lovely up there. Very much enjoyed this and I look forward to my next play!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Ugly Christmas Sweaters:

Fun trick-taking game and one my mom loved. I really enjoyed building my sweaters and trying to complete my Secret Santa goals. There is some really solid gameplay here, and this is a card game I will definitely request. This will definitely be a frequent game during the holidays, for sure! I look forward to seeing this in its released form.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned/Prototype)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Crystal Palace:

Beautiful game. I had fun playing this one. Lots of good ideas and a fun dice mechanic. Not sure if this will hold up over repeated plays, but it's definitely one I will be looking to play again soon!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Prototype/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Sprawlopolis:

We had a great time playing and I can see this coming with me on trips. Maybe it will just live in my purse. It is a winner and a keeper. Easily one of the best travel games around.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Time of Legends: Destinies:

Destinies feels fresh and different, and I want to play through all 5 scenarios. Most games in this genre are cooperative, so it is nice to have that competitive mix in Destinies. I can see a lot of people getting into this. I am excited to see more content and different environments. This can be huge, so I hope for the best!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Prototype/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Core Set:

Love the new look of the Core Set! I loved working through the adventure book. I want to finish Mummy before hitting up the Crimson expansion and getting neck-deep into a new character. I love what it is all doing and am excited to play more. Really enjoyable. Really loving these Pathfinder games!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Jigūan: The Eastern Mechanist:

I had a great time playing this one. I loved all of the choices and trying to puzzle out the best solution. This is a real hit for me and one I think will appeal to many gamers. I can’t wait to play this one again really soon!

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Game of the Month!

Electropolis:

I have to say, Electropolis really impressed me. I love all of the tough decisions, like selecting fewer tiles but getting better choices versus selecting more tiles but only getting the ones that have been picked over. And you get to build up your own city, which is always a blast for me. Really cool game and one I look forward to playing more of really soon!

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

New to me Expansions!

Aeon's End Accessory Pack 2:

Not really needed, but gives dividers and some extra Crystals and Sparks. Need those dividers if you are a completionist!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Everdell: Pearlbrook:

Pearlbrook is a pretty smooth transition from the base game. There is nothing overwhelming or hard to adjust to, just more action spaces and cards and new wonders to shoot for. Fans of Everdell will go crazy for this.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island – Mystery Tales:

Adds a ton of new cards and a campaign mode. Tried the first game in the campaign and it was certainly a challenge. Had fun with it and will want to replay it before continuing the campaign to help us set up for better success! I love a good challenge and this was pretty cool.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Aeon's End: The Outer Dark:

Finding a new favorite character makes this expansion a must-have! I really loved it and the next nemesis in the box looks to be twice as hard as the Wraithmonger. We will see if we can defeat it! Love this game so much!

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Aeon's End: The Void:

I had an awesome time playing with the link cards. I am excited to try to make them work next time. Link cards will work with only 1 link card in play, but it seems like you would need a few different link cards in the supply for it to work well. Still, they are pretty cool.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Qwixx: Connected:

More variety to an already awesome roll n write game. Love the different ways to score, and it is still easy to teach and play. A must have for any Qwixx lover.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Sagrada: The Great Facades – Passion:

Such a great game. I really enjoyed this new Passion expansion and will always choose to play with it from now on. I would choose this expansion over the other one any day. A must-have for Sagrada fans.

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2019!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 games!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

August List
from Worst to Best

Salty Dogs (Prototype):

Still in prototype form. A take-that card game to be the last player standing. Not really my type of game. Probably designed for casual gamers who like games with their beer and pretzels. Not rated due to early prototype status.

-/10 After 1 play (Owned/Prototype)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Sapphire Island (Prototype):

Can't say much about this, but the name and theme will likely change. Not a game that excites me, but solid gameplay which features set collection and is semi-abstract. Not rated due to early prototype status.

-/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

No Pic soblue

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Starship Ludum (Prototype):

Really cool game. Some deckbuilding and tile placement. Fun cube pusher that should be picked up by a publisher soon. One I would want to play again for sure. Not rated due to early prototype status.

-/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Last Word Standing:

Not a game for me. Wayyyyy too much AP as a lot of word games can have. Rulebook was poorly written and very unclear. It didn't work for me at all. Not a game I want to play again.

2/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Tricky Druids:

Pretty game, but false advertising. I thought this game was a trick-taking game, but it is a dice game. Could be a broken game. You must offer to other players on your turn, but no one ever has to offer to you. You might never be offered even one ingredient token, which will make it impossible to create 1 recipe, much less 2. Didn't work for me.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Schollen Rollen:

Cute fish meeples, but overall, not an exciting game to play. Nothing special about this push-your-luck game. Don't care to revisit this one.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Knights of Crylail:

Dexterity game where you shoot discs to be closest to other discs. If you really like these type of games then this has interesting disc abilities, but in general, just not that interesting for me. meh.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Snowman Dice:

Simple speed dice game with a bit of dexterity involved. Cute enough and harmless, just not that exciting.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

No Pic

Foodies:

Easily the best game in the "Machi Koro" family. Has the same style game play, but is more refined and has a definitive ending. Still not a favorite genre of game, but I could play it if requested.

The Alwaysgreen Garden:

Near completed prototype. A family game that will be interesting for new gamers. The artwork is friendly and inviting and the gameplay is easy to follow. I am not sure there is enough there to hold the serious gamer type.

Wakanda Forever:

Love the box cover. Solid gameplay with cool asymmetric abilities. All in all this game will work better for casual players. I had a good time, but it is just not one that excites me. I would be fine playing it again though.

Namiji:

Better than Tokaido, but still not that great. I would definitely be more interested in playing this one since there are objectives to work towards. Beautiful game, nonetheless.

Extraordinary Adventures: Pirates:

Much too chaotic with many players, in my opinion. I found it to be a lot more enjoyable at 2 players and it is likely that 3 players would also be acceptable. I enjoy the deckbuilding aspect to the game, but not the race to the finish. Great production and cute art and is a game I could play again.

Penny Lane:

Love the artwork. Nice little puzzle of a game. Wish there was more variety in the different actions you can take per game. Works for me, but I am not sure it is a game I would ever request. Happy to play again though.

Die Hard: The Nakatomi Heist Board Game:

One-vs-many gameplay that is very true to the movie and thematic. Easily a great game for fans of the movie. I don't have any real connection to the movie and felt a bit strong-armed, so it was only okay for me. I would try again, though it doesn't excite me.

Lockup: A Roll Player Tale:

Wanted to love this. I like hidden placement games like Aladdin's Dragons, but this has partial information and I prefer the chaos of no information. I want to try playing with no information revealed and see how it goes. Only played with 2 players, so I want to see how it will play out with more players.

The Sherlock Files: Elementary Entries:

Pretty neat concept for a deduction game, trying to piece together events without knowing which details are critical and which ones are useless. They are one-shot cases. I might be interested in trying out some other cases, but it might just be too random for me to care enough to play them all.

Dragonrealm:

Charming push-your-luck family-friendly game. Plenty of different set-collection paths so you don't get discouraged when you pull a bad card. Easy to learn and cute artwork which makes it inviting to new or younger players. Definitely would play this again.

Atelier: The Painter's Studio:

Love the theme and the paintings in the game. The painter's pallet is an attractive players board. Wanted to love this more than I did, but still found it pretty good. I wonder about the balance of the card abilities - some seem to be totally OP. A game I need to revisit more.

Hats:

Whimsical as all Alice in Wonderland games should be. Hard enough game to try and figure out, let alone with a partner at the same time. Recommended to play with 2 or 3 the first play. A game I wanted to love, but would really need to play a whole lot to understand and figure it out. Not sure I have that in me.

Dreams of Tomorrow:

One of the most gorgeous games. I love the artwork so much and all of the colors are just, "wow!" Perhaps a top 10 favorite boardgame cover. However, I think this game needs a lot more development. As it stands, it works as a game, but I could easily redesign this game to be more streamlined and gamer friendly. Unlikely to play this again, but it gets extra points for the art.

Catlantis:

Went in with low expectations and found myself thoroughly entertained and happy. Delightful set-collection game with an I-split-you-choose mechanic. I love the foil cards and box - all of it is just so CUTE! Would be happy to play this again.

Pappy Winchester:

Auction game that didn't win the table over, but I had a good time playing. However, the duel tokens lowered my enjoyment of the game, and when I play again, I will choose to eliminate them. It's an easy fix to make the game better IMO.

Century: Golem Edition – Eastern Mountains:

Same game as Eastern Wonders but with different art. I like this better than Spice Road because all of the resource conversions are on display. This helps players to be able to plan ahead, but can also lead to AP with some groups. Happy to play this, but prefer Wonders to Mountains because it is easier to see player pieces on the board.

Funkoverse Strategy Game:

I love me some Funko figures. So freaking cute! Harry Potter themed at that. Area-control tactical-battle type game. I will always lose but don't mind trying. Interested in seeing the other characters including the Golden Girls. Not a game I will want to frequently play but I am happy to on occasion.

Panda Craves Danger:

Surprising fun little push-your-luck game. Ridiculous panda art that makes me laugh every time I see a new card. #whatwilltheythinkofnext I love chucking all the dice. Overall a very cute game. Happy to play this one with any gamer.

King Me!:

King Me takes the familiar feeling of Checkers and reworks it into an area-control game with a lot more strategy. I love the colorful board and the use of the rivers. I would recommend checking it out if you like abstracts and area-control games.

Escape Room In A Box: Flashback:

On the easier side of Escape Room games but has a lot of new features I haven't seen before. Really makes you think outside the box. I was totally surprised and would recommend it just for the experience.

Stinkin' cute! Love the drafting mechanic and the set collection, but most of all, I love the cats! So cute with their cute names. This is a game I could easily play anytime. Don't know why it took so long to play this one.

Kenny G: Keepin' It Saxy:

Yeah, I am a fan of Kenny G! So? Isn't everyone? This game is hilarious. If you play this, I totally recommend you read the Sax Facts before playing. It will give you insight into the cards. Super-cute cooperative game to help Kenny keep his groove through his hectic day. Really quick game and you will laugh. Hard to go wrong with this $20 Target game.

Imaginarium:

Wow, this artwork is funky and I love it. Amazing bust figures included in the game. Gameplay is easy, but managing your system is more difficult. Fun challenge and definitely a game I want to play more of. Trying so hard to recall the movie it reminds me of, with weird paper cutouts like this artwork. It is driving me nuts, so if you know it, please let me know.

The Lord of the Rings: Journey to Mordor:
