Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2019!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 games!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

January List
from Worst to Best

Valentina: The Game – Tutto Crepax Vol. 1:

Okay, I knew this game would be bad, but I still wanted to try it out since I owned it. Pretty game, but really not much fun at all. Speed memory puzzle game. Bad but not burn worthy.

2/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Niagara:

Cool waterfall gimmick which caught my interest to begin with. Needs some house rules to be more likable in my book. Can be really mean, and it might just never end! Ran on far too long for my taste.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Waterworks:

Crusty old card placement game. Not horrible but it was so old I felt dirty playing it. Can be mean and take-that. Luck of the draw. Not exciting at all and won't ever be a choice in the future for me.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Age of Civilization:

A bit under developed. Cool ideas and easy to learn light civ game. I like the limited actions you can take in the game and the short playtime.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Madorino Karuta VR:

Cute use of VR. I like having to try and describe a room. I feel like the game could get old after a few plays but I would be fine playing anytime. It plays a bunch of people and can be a good filler for the start of the day.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Adlung Land:

Card laying game to build an amusement park. I like how Adlung Games incorporated all of their titles into this game, it is clever. Harmless game and one I could easily play again.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Ice Cream:

We need more games about ice cream so this was a welcomed theme in my book. Any reason to eat more ice cream is a good one. Cute set creation game to try and score ice cream points. Happy to play.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

La Stanza:

Played in nearly finished prototype form. Enjoyable planning game. You have to work out the best moves and how to accomplish getting the masterpieces made. Stressful and tight. Cool game.

7/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Architects of the West Kingdom:

Clever worker placement game. Feels similar in design to the North Sea series, but different enough to be interesting. Worth checking out if you like Euro games.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

London (second edition):

This game is almost brutal in a good kinda way. I played the 1st edition and remember it being more favorable than I have it rated (6). I quite enjoyed the play I had for this one and would most certainly like to return to it. Very much enjoyed my play.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Pirate Tricks:

Simple to learn trick-taking game with variable rules that change up from hand to hand. Plays out super quick and lots of fun choices. A very enjoyable game. Maybe too much public information to try and keep track of. Still, one I want to play more of.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

MY GAME OF THE MONTH IS: 5x5 City:

More awesomeness from Okazu Brand. Tile placement game with some pattern building. Easy to teach and play and right up my alley. Will want to own this one.

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/Wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

The Tally

January: 12

Total new to me games for the year: 12!

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Last year I started keeping tabs on the movies I was watching. I quite enjoyed that and will continue to keep tabs this year!

Thanks for following along! I hope you have an amazing 2019.

Happy Gaming!!!

-Steph

Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2018!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 400 500 games!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

December List

1. Forbidden City:

New Knizia title. More than meets the eye with this one. Very enjoyable tile placment game that doesn't outstay its welcome. Will gladly play this anytime.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

2. Cupcake Empire:

Clever dice game to make the cupcake recipes and deliver them to customers. Very quick game and you get a lot accomplished. I enjoy this one.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

3. Tournament of Towers:

Simple dex game with amazing quality. Love the weird shapes and the heft to all the pieces. Would gladly play this anytime. Similar to Junk Art.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

4. The River:

Pretty simple worker placement game. Entry-level, but still interesting. I could play this for a filler anytime. Harmless and cute. Not terribly innovative or exciting.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

5. Railroad Rivals:

Tile drafting and placing game. Pretty mean-spirited and cut throat when playing properly. The randomness of the tiles was not great but didn't affect me that much. Can't say I am excited to play this one again, but would.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

6. Let's Drink:

A re-theme of one of my favorites Cha dango. This is just slightly different but still the same amazing fun. This is a great version of the game and it comes in a fuzzy bunny plushie!

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

7.City of Gears:

Felt I got a good feel for the game in the first play. Not sure it is really my type of game. Not enough to do on your turn since there are so few resources you can possibly get. It was about 4 rounds and seemed wicked fast and I never got an engine built. It was weird and nothing really grabbed me. Something seemed off for me.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

8. KOI:

Relaxing and beautiful abstract game. I found a few issues with the turn order, but I think that is can be houseruled with ease. Perhaps it is best with 2 players? It is easy to teach and play and one I can see playing in a casual setting. I really love the art in this one.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

9. Hokkaido:

Definitely enjoy this one more than Honshu. I love the drafting and the added complication of the mountain range. Quicker also helps! If you like Honshu, I think you would enjoy this too. Fun!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

10. The Table Is Lava:

Super cute and fun dex game where you get to throw cards on the table and try to knock people into the lava. Easy end-of-night game where you don't have to think too much. I will gladly play this anytime.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

11. Once Upon a Castle:

Roll n Write game where you get to color in a castle! A very simple game to try and collect the walls and towers of the castle and gain lots of points. You can be creative like me and use sharpies to help color in the castle you are forming. Super cute!

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

12. Cryptid:

Clever deduction game. Seems unique - very different than any other deduction game that I have played. I could easily play this anytime.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

13. X nimmt!:

This game was awesome. I love 6 nimmt! and this is a different take on that one. It only plays 2-4 players with minor but effective changes. I would highly recommend this one if you like 6 Nimmt.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

14. Futuropia:

Easy-to-learn rules but took me a while to figure out strategy. I did not fully understand it until it was over and we were scoring. It is a game I will have to revisit to form a full opinion. For now, I am on the fence.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

15. Ghosts of the Moor:

Plays up to 5, but I would probably suggest 3. The more dudes you get, the more fun you will have since you will have more decisions to make. It was cute, would play again.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

16. Word Domination:

Area control word game. You want to make clever words and steal letters from the map and control locations. It was a cute game. It certainly helps if you know really long and obscure words. I would play this again, but I know I will lose every time I do. Still can be a fun challenge.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

17. Holding On: The Troubled Life of Billy Kerr:

Interesting theme. Played a few scenarios. Puzzles changed up over the different scenarios and I am interested in playing through the campaign.

7.5/10 After 3 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

18. Alice:

Amazing artwork and theme. Not sure there are enough choices in the game. I need and want more cards to perform the actions with. Seemed to be a bit slow too. Will have to give it another play.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

19. Kingdom Run:

The more I play Ankama games, the more I love the look and play of all of them. This one is a super cute race game with some dice rolling and take-that. Very simple with lots of options. I would play this anytime.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

20. Dice Age: The Hunt:

Las Vegas with a twist as you are also trying to collect different sets of hunting game. It was definitely a refreshing take on Las Vegas and I could play this in its place anytime.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

21. Trash Pandas:

Top-notch artwork and a push-your-luck game to boot. I had to see what it was all about. Very cute game. Probably a bit long for my taste since I seem to always push my luck too much. Would play again, but not itching to do so.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

22. 3x8:

Small colorful card game. Really didn't like the gameplay at all. I could see keeping the cards to be used for The Mind, but this is not a game I would want to play again.

3.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

23. Wing Spirits:

Not the best game to play on the fly. You really need a good table and playing surface. Not the best dex game and probably not one I will play again.

3.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

No Photo!

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

24. 1st & Roll:

I don't even like Sportsball, but this was a lot of fun. I love push-your-luck dice games! It is super clever and the board is magnetic!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

25. Kero:

2-player game. You get to roll lots of dice and try to get the symbols needed to buy the cards you want and take control of locations. Wicked cool sand timer trucks.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

26. Ringo:

2-player simple abstract game. Shiny rings! Harmless and quick so it is one to play anytime. It was okay.

5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

27. Spirits of the Forest:

Deluxe version is so pretty! Simple gameplay to gather sets. Very easy to play and a bit relaxing. Interested in playing more with variants, but base game alone is a bit too simple for me.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

28. Now Boarding:

Cooperative gameplay to try and pick up angry passengers and drop them at their proper destination. You work with the other airlines to make sure everyone is happy. It is a clever theme. Probably not a game I will return to often, but I would gladly play it again.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

29. Ocean Crisis:

OCEAN DEFENSE TEAM! Cooperative game to clean up the waters and not get too much pollution. Pretty easy to learn and different levels of difficulties. I could play again.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

30. Cerebria: The Inside World:

Love this game. Probably don't need to rate again, but it has changed a bunch since I last played it and this was a new experience, but still gave me the same feeling. Really excited to play this more and more.

8.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

31. Marble Bobsleigh:

Not a game for me. Seems like it could be cool but there were a bunch of issues with the marble releases. Wanted more to happen.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

32. Cave Paintings:

Silly drawing game. I would totally play this if requested or in the mood for a drawing game. I don't think it is above other drawing games like Pictomania, but it was cute.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

33. Mesozooic:

Real-time puzzle game to try and make your best park by sliding the cards around the grid as fast as you can to make the connections you want. It was cute. I am interested in the advanced rules to see if that makes it a bit more interesting. For now, it was just okay.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

34. Prototype- Roll n Write Designed by Kane Klenko:

Early Proto - Not going to rate it. Looking forward to final result!

-/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

35. Home Alone Game:

Clever 2 player game with a pretty fantastic theme. Will definitely be making it a holiday tradition to play this one. Super fast and some good choices. Hard to win as Kevin but not impossible. I like a good challenge.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

36. Cerberus:

Not really a game for me, but I can see how it will have its place. Cute Cerberus meeple. Not really hidden traitor but can kind of feel like it. Simple card game to try and escape the cave before Cerberus gets you. Or do you want to join Cerberus? It was okay.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

37. Hardback:

More streamlined than Paperback and I quite enjoyed it. I am always up for some word games and this was a delight. Happy to play this.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

38. Walking in Burano:

So colorful! Love the theme and card drafting. I didn't like the use of money in this game though - I feel it might play better without it. Happy to play it anytime, but might not request it. I try too hard to put the buildings in rainbow order and get disappointed if I don't.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

39. Thwarted! A Game of Super-Villainy:

Very much a take-that card game in the realm of Munchkin. Not much here for me to stay interested for very long. Didn't wow me, but was fine.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

40. Big Bang 13.7:

Tile placement and very abstract. Interesting gameplay and one I could play whenever requested. Has a bunch of take-that though.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

41. From Batavia:

Very chaotic resource management game and a race to fill 3 boats. Ultimately not a game for me, but wasn't horrible.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

42. Intrigues of Asgard:

Cool theme - duel purpose cards. Set collection with take-that elements. Not really a card game for me and I would advise not to play with larger player counts. Could play again.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

43. Geschenke für den Radscha:

Interesting abstract game to collect tokens on the board and use them for buying the items needed. Really a race game to get a couple items and return back. Could use more development work but overall interesting. Happy I played.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

44. Coney Island:

Painful to play. Can't seem to get anything done if people keep ruining what you did the turn before. More frustrating than fun.

3/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

45. The Majority: Complete Edition:

Partnership game to try and collect cards for value. Interesting scoring and I love the art Ayatsurare Ningyoukan offers. Happy to play this.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

46. Pepper & Carrot: The Potion Contest:

Amazing artwork. Never read the webcomic but love the Ghibli feeling the game holds. Very puzzley and thinky. Wish it were real-time.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

New Expansions!

1. Santa Maria: American Kingdoms:

Really good exansion for this game. If you are a fan of the base game then I would recommend this to add in additional modules. Lots to explore and content available here. #recommended.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

2. The Table is Lava: Coconuts edition:

Not really needed with the base game, but allows for a 5th player! It will get played a lot because I am always looking for good 5 player games. Good add-on.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

3. Imhotep: A New Dynasty:

Excellent expansion. Really offers a lot more boards and replayability. I love mixing and matching the different boards and getting new goals and objectives. If you like the base game I think this will be an obvious pickup.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

4. Dominion: Nocturne:

Didn't get a proper feel for the expansion but I like what I was seeing. One I want to play more of!

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

5. Dominion: Renaissance:

Not much overarching feeling for this expansion, but I liked what I saw. You always need more Dominion cards right?

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

6. Isle of Skye: Druids:

Easier expansion to take in vs Isle of Skye: Journeyman and might suggest it even before playing the 1st expansion. Quite enjoyable and would be happy to play it anytime. Wishing the base box was a little bigger now.

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2018!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 400 500 games!

New Awesome Microbadge!!
mb

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

November List

1. Brikks:

Roll n Write game of Tetris! I probably hyped this game up too much for myself. I wish there was another board for variation. Not really enough interesting choices to keep me wanting to play over and over.

6/10 After several plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

2. First Contact:

Tons of fun! Seen the movie Arrival? This is the board game of that movie. Aliens trying to communicate with humans. Lots of laughs and makes for a fun party game. Having a great time with this one and can see lots of games in my future!

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

3. Pandoria:

A bit too much take-that for my liking. Overall simple rules to understand and play. Not many interesting mechanics for me to keep me invested in the longer playtime. Not for me.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

4. Underwater Cities:

People keep comparing it to Terraforming Mars. I have to say I like it a lot more than TM. In this game, I get to build my own city and do my own thing. Really clever game and one that I look forward to many more plays of! Loved it!

9/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

5. Nemeton:

Nothing much exciting happening in this game. Nothing that I haven't seen before or anything to make it stand out from a crowd. Felt it was far too long for a simple resource management game. In the end, not really for me.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

6. The Great City of Rome:

I love tile placement and card drafting so that works well for me. The art is not so exciting but I enjoyed the game play. I look forward to more plays.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

7. Walls of York:

Roll n Write but in boardgame form. You are placing walls down according to what is rolled trying to make the best city walls. It is super cute. Kinda wish there was more complicated scoring or gameplay options for advanced players.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

8. Solenia:

One top game I was looking forward to from Essen. I had a great time playing and I think the advanced play will be even more compelling. Simply gorgeous production. The transition from night to day is so cool.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

9. Gingerbread House:

Simple, simple gameplay here. I still enjoyed it and LOVE the art and quality production. Will stay in the collection for at least a few more plays. Super cute though.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

10. Horticulture Master:

Easily one of the prettiest games to come out of Essen. Game play is simple and relaxing. I think it's more interesting than Cottage Garden. A bit long for what it offers, but warrants more plays.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

11. Qwantum:

New Roll n Write game and it was okay. Nothing much exciting happening with this one. Would gladly play it anytime though.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

12. Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra:

This is awesome. Takes Azul and changes it to be a game for me. I was not entirely fond of Azul, but this totally fixes what I didn't like and makes it so much better. Loved this game.

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

13. Manitoba:

Some cool ideas going on here. Standard Euro type game and one I could easily play again. I wouldn't be jumping to do so but I wouldn't turn it down. Totes fine.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

14. Valparaíso:

Started out strong with a nice card management mechanic. Everything else really just fell flat and didn't really work for the group. Not a game I would care to play again.

3.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

15. Ceylon:

Was REALLY bad but learned we played it incorrectly so I will judge based off of the correct rule. Would try again for fair judgment but based on what I know- it was all around OK. Nothing special happening with this game.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

16. Fertility:

Cute tile laying and resource management game. Nothing out of the ordinary here, but it is solid and a game I could play anytime. Plays out wicked fast. Might not be terribly exciting after several plays though.

7/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

17. Trappist One:

Nightmare getting through these rules and playthrough. Maybe the game isn't as bad as my experience but I won't be playing this again, it was just torture. Beautiful art though.

2/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

18. Crime Hotel:

I had a good experience, but I can see if you can't win or lose a hand then the game just sucks. Which happened in our play. Kinda ruined it for us. It drops the rating a bunch because of that- if a player can't score cause of bad card draw then yah - bleh.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

19. Trellis:

Beautiful production - not so interesting play. Very mundane and easy. Could be good for non-gamers and families, overall uninteresting. Needs more for advanced players. First player advantage.

4/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

20. Fool!:

I was fooled into playing this not really aware it was a remake of Foppen. Yes, it is a re-do of Foppen, a game I despise. This did not help and I won't play again. Just not a game for me.

2/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

21. Fuji:

Love this game! Cooperative dice rolling game. I duno why I love it so much but I can't wait to play harder levels of this. So much fun.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

22. Ragusa:

Played prototype. Needs a lot of development for it to be a game I would play again. As it stands - it didn't work for me at all.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

23. Rebel Nox:

Weird and interesting trick taking game. Teams and partnerships are forever changing in the game and you just don't know who you are working with. Tricky. I like what is happening though.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

24. Lift Off:

Interesting game here. Not sure it is for me. Just too long for me - maybe I need to play with a different group of players? I would definitely play again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

25. Crown of Emara:

Another game which I am not sure if it is meant for me. I definitely liked what was happening. Would use a card variant for sure in the next play. I want to play again and see if I like it more.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

26. Globe Twister:

Awesome puzzle game. It was made for me. I love the way it makes me think. Would play anytime.

8.5/10 After 1 play ( Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

27. Blackout: Hong Kong:

Impressed me a lot. Played a lot of little things incorrectly so I definitely look forward to my next play and correcting those issues. Loved everything I was doing and got a really good sense for the game. Went to the top of the Christmas wishlist.

9/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/ wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

28. Discover: Lands Unknown:

I discovered this game was baaad. It started off fun and interesting but then there were clear flaws in the game and no direction or clues to what needed to happen. Every game box providing different content doesn't help and you won't have the same experience as the next player. Dislike.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

29. Tales of Glory:

This was a delight! A game totally up my alley and one that I am so glad I grabbed at Essen. It is just awesome! Tile drafting and laying to create combos. The game length is perfect and the decisions are clever. Loved it!

8.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

30. Claim Kingdoms:

No real good choices in this game. Really uninteresting and boring. I just can't recommend this one. Just play Claim instead.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

31. Hasp:

Super cute trick taking game. Easy rules for new card players which makes it accessible for families. Can be a bit luck dependent, but I like a challenge.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

32. Outback:

Easy push your luck dice rolling game. A bit of set collection. I found the advanced side a bit too long and 4 players to be too many. I think it would be better with fewer players so less time between turns. Not a game I loved but could play again.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

33. Orbital:

A bit uninspired. I love tile placement and the scorings, but you just can't read what other people are doing quickly so you are mainly focusing on yourself. I want to play a few more times and try out different goals and boards to play on.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

34. Escape Tales: The Awakening:

This is awesome. Probably my favorite escape-type game. Lots of fun puzzles. Took like 5-6 hours to complete but you can break it up into many sittings. #recommended

8.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

35. PUSH:

PUSH your luck game. Cuter than anticipated and a game I could easily play anytime for a fast filler. Pretty dated graphic design, but has lots of colors so I accept that.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

36. Gobi:

Simple tile placement abstract game. Kinda luck of the draw since you don't get a choice in the tiles. Could easly play whenever, might get old after several plays.

6/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

37. Belratti:

Super cute party-type game. Co-op Mysterium-esque game. Probably a bit long for the type of game it is. Would gladly play this anytime.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

38. Victorian Masterminds:

Awesome productions and minis. Totally unnecessary minis, but cool nonetheless. All in all the game just didn't do it for me and it was ho hum. I could play again, but I won't be rushing to do so.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

39. Captains of the Gulf:

Interesting mechanics and multi-use cards. Non-elegant and fiddly game. Lots of upkeep and lots of little rules to keep track of. Once you get past the hump of the game, it works. I think there is a good game here, just not an easy one to grasp.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

40. The Golden Sails:

Simple filler of a card game. Drafting and set collection. Coming out in 2019. I quite enjoyed this one. Clever choices in a short playtime. Look forward to more plays.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

41. Oziland:

Very easy tile-laying game. Multiple ways to play it and I played the common board version. Really turned into a luck of the draw game. Didn't work that well for me.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

42. A Thief's Fortune:

Interesting card game to create combos. Not much there to keep me wanting more or asking to play again. 2p seemed to be the right count as I think 4p would just be far too long. Would play again, but it didn't wow me.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

43. Passing Through Petra:

Interesting mechanic for the actions you will be able to take on your turn. Overall not a game for me since I am not a fan of a race-to-the-finish games. Could play again but not by my request.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

44. Scorpius Freighter:

Took me by surprise. Tough choices with 3 rondels and tight actions. Lots of different paths and strategies to explore. This is exciting and fast so will be looking to play this more.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

45. 5 COLORS:

Cute little card game. I love colors, of course. Simultaneous card play and fast. Harmless, really, but not so exciting.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

46. Knapp Daneben!:

Roll n Write! I like the challenge of trying to make all the connections and correct decisions. I have fun with this one!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

47. Reavers of Midgard:

Exciting Euro coming 2019. I liked Champions, but I loved Reavers. I think there is a lot of promise here. I had a great time plaything this one in prototype form. Interested to see where it ends up.

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

48. Gùgōng:

Had a great time playing this one. Tricky to do well and that's always appealing. I loved the card mechanic happening in this game. Can't wait to play again.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/ wishlist)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

49. Magnastorm:

Cute turtles. Very linear game play and just seemed to have a runaway leader problem. Can't say I liked anything I was doing. Just not a game for me.

3/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

50. CuBirds:

Super cute card game. Set collection filler type game. Easy to teach and play. Would gladly play this anytime.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

51. Raccoon Tycoon:

Amazing artwork which pulled me right in. Entry level economic game which I found pretty cute. Too simple for most of my groups, but I could play again.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

52. Fine Sand:

Simple game play with added replay value for the bonus fabled deck of cards you can play through. Surprised me how much I enjoyed this one. Can't wait to play more.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

53. A Pleasant Journey to Neko:

Awesome artwork and interesting use of dice. A bit confusing on timing but it is all mapped out on a player aid. Card iconography is not obvious. Overall interesting enough to play again but not as elegant as I might like. I like tableau building and comboing.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

54. Blöde Kuh:

Silly card game. It was cute, and I could play again. Didn't find it to be that special though.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

55. Exit: The Game – The Sunken Treasure:

Totally didn't work for me. The tests were just too difficult, so maybe I am just not smart enough for it. Pass.

2.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

56. Orbis:

Interesting tile placement game. Get the feeling of restriction as the game goes on and I am not sure if I like that or not. A game I want to play a few more times for sure.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

New Expansions!

1. A Feast for Odin: The Norwegians:

Easily the best Expansion of the year. AMAZING. More AMAZING for the already AMAZING. I duno, just buy it.

10/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

2. Caverna: The Forgotten Folk:

Was skeptical of the variable player powers. Love it nonetheless. More building tiles and so much to explore. It's wonderful.

10/10 After 1 play (Owned)

mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb mb

Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2018!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 400 games!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

October List

1. VITA MORS:

Wonderful artwork and quick game play. Bluffing mechanic and social game. Not really my type of game but those who enjoy the genre will find it interesting. Top quality production.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

2. Eco-Links:

Real-time puzzle type game to form the pathways. I love tile laying and puzzle type games. This was a lot of fun and I look forward to more plays!

7.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

3. Mystical Seeds:

Beautiful set collection game to race to get 10 points first. No real new mechanics or anything exciting but the gameplay is fine. Love the production and artwork.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

4. The Forgotten City:

The box is one of the best covers I have seen. Instantly attracted to this game. For me, the mechanics just didn't mesh well and seemed jumbled. Didn't work so much for me and the group.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

5. The Bark Side:

Very simple and cute trick-taking game. You are essentially trying not to win the LAST trick of the hand. Very easy and fun to play. I was a very bad dog.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

6. Wonderland Xiii:

Love the art and the production on this game. Push your luck game that I just loved. Took a moment to get into it. I really want to play this one again soon! Really quick and simple game.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

7. Carpe Diem:

Pretty middle of the row Feld game. I love the tile placement aspect of this game. The artwork is nothing special though. Would gladly play this one again.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

8. Anomaly:

1 v many game. Not really my type of game but it was super easy to get the rules down and start playing. I like the deduction aspect of the game but probably not one that I would play all that often.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

9. Atlandice:

Simple resource collection game by drafting dice and performing location actions. Nothing we haven't seen before. Not much strategy involved.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

10. Athens:

Beautiful artwork. Engine building game to try and gain resources. A bit confused by this one. It seemed a bit off, and perhaps just under developed. Needs more card options for variety.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

11. Swordcrafters Expanded Edition:

SO COOL! Love building a sword. It is not about who has the biggest sword, but the best quality and most points from splitting/drafting/set collection. So much fun!

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

12. Truck Off: The Food Truck Frenzy:

Simultaneous selection. Then action cards to offer a take that mechanic. Interesting game play and funny cards. Lots of fun playing this one.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

13. Ganymede:

Awesome art! Interesting point generating race game to try and ship your people off for big points. Would happily play this one again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

14. Founders of Gloomhaven:

Big convoluted game. Took quite a while to "figure out". Interesting ideas but really not intuitive at all. Should play again, but the time commitment is a bit of a turn-off.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

15. Chronicles of Crime:

Don't have cool Stereoscopic glasses, but the app works great and the puzzle is fun. Played tutorial and medium first case. Twisted and dark. Super hard. scored 130/100 on tutorial and 80/100 on the medium first case. Very enjoyable, and I see a lot of replay value here.

8/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

16. Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig:

More like Between to Cities than Castles of MKL, but I like the added complexity for the scoring. It is exactly what you think this game would be. Quite enjoyable.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

17. Deckscape: Test Time:

I like this series of games. The puzzles aren't too hard and I can usually figure them out given some time. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

18. Counterfeiters:

A really cute game where you are printing fake money. You are working to turn that fake money into REAL money! A very simple worker-placement game that plays in like 45 minutes. A game I would happily play again.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

19. Witless Wizards:

A game purely about take-that. You are trying to attack and kill off your opponents in this game. Ever-changing card tableau and it comes down to luck of the draw, mostly. Not really a game for me, but I liked the art.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

20. Trapwords:

Super challenging team/word game. Much like Taboo but the other team gets to create the trap words and they are hidden. Super fun and provides a lot of laughs. I could play this any game day!

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

21. Wazzda?!:

Silly party game. You are trying to guess the word the active players are creating with their sticks. You get points for guessing correctly or presenting correctly. it was cute but not something I want to play all the time.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

22. Raiatea:

Lots of moving parts and fiddly bits like placing clips on cards for secret card play. Overall, I found the game quite enjoyable and thinking. There are general rounds and there are ceremony rounds. The Ceremony rounds are definitely the most interesting and lots of fun things are happening. I like the unknown and push your luck element here. Look forward to more plays.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

23. NEOM:

City-building, tile-laying, drafting game. All the things I love. Had a pretty good time playing, but it really was difficult because every tile was unique and only one rulebook with the tile information. More frustrating than fun. I would try again though.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

24. Big Dig:

Roll n Write game to meet the conditions of the goal cards first. It is a race to meet them first and then you win! Small box which is always nice. Worried there might be a first player advantage.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

25. Planet:

Super awesome components here! Love the magnetic orbs and the drafting and the tile-placement. Easy game to pick up and learn, fun as well. Would gladly play this anytime.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

26. Tag City:

Excellent game! Totally fires Noch Mal! Roll n Write funtimes. Love the colors and the puzzling aspect to the game. Definitely a great title for the genre. #recommended.

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

27. Architectura:

Beautiful beautiful game. Love the art so much. Take-that card placement game. You are trying to keep your buildings alive and score the most points for the end of the game. Clever card play and will be I play several more times!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

September List

1. Crazy Eggz:

Cute egg container game with simple to learn rules. Kids would have fun and could be a good family game. Silly and cute. Would play again.

5/10 After 1 plays (Owned)

2. Colorfox:

An awesome box that pulls out like a matchbox and has the bumps. Easy game plays one for the family. I look forward to trying it out with them in the future. Cute set collection game.

6/10 After 1 plays (Owned)

3. Roll to the Top!:

I love Roll N Write games and this is a good one. I would gladly play this one again. Might not be my first choice, but there are a lot of maps to try out and I like the replay-ability!

7/10 After 1 plays (Owned)

4. Layers:

Real-Time puzzle to try and put layers down to create the matching picture. pretty fun challenge and one that I could play anytime. Great filler.

7.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

5. Lucky's Misadventures:

Really interesting mechanics for deck building. Different paths to try and achieve before the end of the game for an auto win. I really love the art and the mis-mashed theme. Fun times.

8/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

6. TOKYO JIDOHANBAIKI:

Series of several games. Some badly written rules make for not so easy playing. Amazing quality production for a game, I need to play some more in the selection of games.

5.5/10 After 3 plays (Owned)

7. Forest:

Easy game with adorable fairy tale art. Probably for families and kids and not so much a gamers game. Could play again, but didn't hold my interest.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

8. Bob Ross: Happy Little Accidents:

Cute 15 minute drawing party game. In the line of A Fake Artist Goes to New York. Could easily play with anyone and the box is fuzzy...

7/10 After 3 plays (Owned)

9. Touch Down!:

Team abstract game. Not convinced we playe dcorrectly but perhaps a bad translated rulebook? Super cute animals and a checker like game. Could play again.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

10. Mafiozoo:

Reimplement of Louis XIV. I like this theme better, but the box is 3x the size and thats not great. It is an interesting and vicious game. maybe too meann for me? Hard to say. Would definitely play again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

11. Bargain Quest:

Not for me. Gorgeous art but the game play was a mash up of a bunch of mechanics that didn't flow well.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

12. dude:

Props for the Rainbow Dude card... but still it is no Happy Salmon. Could play again.

5.5/10 After 1 plays (Not Owned)

13. History of the World:

Been really enjoying this one and it is one that I want to play more and more of. I want to get to be amazing at this game! It has totally captivated me. If you are a fan of A Brief History of the World I think you will like this.

9/10 After 1 plays (Owned)

14. Strike:

Totes overrated. #idontgetit It was fine.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

15. Gizmos:

Exactly as I expected it. Too bad it is in a huge box- that really almost pushed the rating back a notch. I could play again if requested. Not dying to.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

16. Root:

Artwork is beyond cuteness. Game play was fine for me. I am really not a fan os asymmetric powers. Not really interested in playing again.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

17. GoTown:

This is a game that might never end... it just goes on and on my friends... some people started playing it not knowing what it was... and they'll continue playing it forever just because... this is the game that never ends...

3/10 After 1 play (Owned)

18. Prototype- Triky Trail:

Pretty great game for learning countries and flags and small facts. Not a great gamers game but would be excellent in 8th grade history classes. #recommendedforlearning I need to study up.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

19. Tubyrinth:

Interesting polyomino game that is timed by the fastest players who can complete the path. Not a game I would play every week but I would be happy to play it every so often.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

20. Arraial:

Beautiful beautiful game. Love the Tetris style tile-laying mechanic. Not so much player interaction or planning, but hopeful luck. Very enjoyable and will play anytime.

8/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

21. Mutants:

Interesting asymmetric deck building game. I'm not usually one for asymmetric, but this worked for me since I am really focused on my own thing. While there are attack cards, it felt fine to me. Still in dev mode, so I am curious to see where this ends up. One to watch!

7/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

22. Bob Ross: Art of Chill Game:

Pretty rinbow game that I had to try out. Chillest game of them all, it seems. light set collection game. Cute and good for casual gamers.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

23. Papering Duel:

Cute abstract game for 2 player. Very thinky and constricting. A great production and fun game. Great for people who enjoy 2p games.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

24. Wangdo:

Wicked cute productions with adorable bears. Simple set collection game with easy rules to teach any gamer. Could play with the fam.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

25. Taiwan:

Interesting tableau builder. Buy extra dice per round and roll resources and workforce. Luck of the dice somewhat involved but there are ways to help that with conversions. Pretty art and a game I would like to play more of.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

26. Spring Rally:

A vibrant trick-taking game with an incredible catch-up mechanic. Each time you lose a trick you tick forward your spring and eventually you might win a trick and can spring ahead or if the round ends you will auto spring. It is super cute and harmless.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

27. Tags:

Super clever party-type game. Only plays 4 but I could see it playing with a few more. You are trying to think of fast responses and man it is easier if you are not on the clock playing but spectating! Super fun!

8/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

28. Majolica:

Beautiful game for sure. Finicky tile movements and can be frustrating at times. VERY thinky and puzzley. Perhaps too much for my brain to process at once. Will have to try it a few more times.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

29. Lindisfarne:

Area control game that I absolutely adore. So much fun collecting Frescos you. Set collection game with some area control. You get to roll dice but there is a bunch of ways to use the dice. Simple to learn and fun to play. Really surprised me.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

30. Seals:

Set collection type game. very easy to play and learn game. Pretty underwhelming and a game I could play again though.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

New to me Expansions!

1. Q.E. 5 player:

Q.E. 5 Player proto expansion. Feels the same as basic game not sure it added much for me. Would play again.

5/10 After 2 plays (not Owned)

Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2018!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 400 games!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

August List

1. Team UP!:

Might seem like an easy game- sure take the block and stack em. But, there is some challenge here and it is always an interesting puzzle. You can then replay the same game with the information you just got and see if you can play better! So unique! I also just love playing with blocks.

7.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

2. Kariba:

This game is so cute! I love the art and card size. You are trying to score points by playing down cards to a circular pattern of descending numbers. Easy filler type game and one I could play anytime!

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

3. Kartel:

Very simple game with a little bit of take that. But, easy to play. Probably not one I would return to play a whole bunch. I like that it can play a bunch of people in a short time.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

4. Bandido:

Super cute solo or co-op game to try and enclose the bandit. If you can control it early and get the good cards you will do well, but, it might get carried away and you will have a harder time figuring it out! Really cute game!

7.5/10 After 3 plays (Owned)

5. Skylands:

Love this game! I loved the original The King of Frontier and I am thrilled they choose to bring it to a wider audience. I enjoy the new artwork and simply love this game!

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

6. Fast Forward: FORTUNE:

The Fast Forward games are interesting. This is probably my favorite in the series so far. I like the theme best, but they are all very similar in my opinion so be aware of that. I don't think this one will go changing anyone's mind about the series if they didn't like it to begin with.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

7. Shadows: Amsterdam:

This is a game much like Mysterium except you are working with a team to try and clue them into a location to go and find the clues and escape before the cops nab them and before the other team does it first. Super fast and so much fun! Seriously loved this one!

8.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/ Wishlist)

8. Show & Tile:

Fun Pictionary-type game where you are creating pictures using basic shapes. You want people to guess correctly so you both get points. A clever and fun game, wish it could play more people, but I suppose you could have multi copies of the game to play with more!

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

9. Get Packing:

This is a real-time puzzle game where everyone has the same information and they are trying to pack the little luggage case with the items for the trip. SO SUPER HARD, and lots of fun. I was terrible at it, but I had a great time playing.

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

10. Railroad Ink: Blazing Red Edition:

Train game- Dice Game which makes me overlook the train game part. Actually pretty great networking building game. You get to play it multiplayer solitaire which makes all the difference. I quite enjoyed this one and will play anytime.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/ Wishlist)

11. Kaosmos:

Easily one of my favorite from the month. Been enjoying all of my plays and still want to play more. Fast tile laying game with lots of pressured decisions.

8.5/10 After several plays (Owned)

12. Forbidden Sky:

I have played the other Forbidden games and this was by far the best in the series. It is so different and unique at that. I love that you are trying to create a circuit! The freaking spaceship will light up and make noise if you do! So cool!

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

13. Lost Cities: Rivals:

I really like the dynamic of the card auction in this game vs the regular Lost Cities 2p game. I think the tension on your money management is interesting and when to bid vs holding back. Much preferred over the 2p game, but it is a very different sort of game.

7.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

14. Prototype- Sonic Spindash:

Super awesome! This needs to be made into a published game so I can have it! Definitely an improvement over Spinball, but it has a similar mechanic. Lots of fun!

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

15. Woodlands:

Oh, I have been playing this a bit, and I have been loving it. One of my favorites from the month for sure! Love the tile placement and spatial aspect of the game. Really wonderful and will play anytime.

8.5/10 After 3 plays (Owned)

16. Newton:

Crunchy new Euro game! Lots of paths to follow and explore. Looking for optimal moves and timing. Definitely interested in exploring this one further.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/ Wishlist)

17. Expancity:

Interesting tile placement game with excellent pieces and quality. Solid gameplay and a little bit of push your luck at times. City building game with a lot of mechanics you have seen. If it was my first city-building game- I would be wowed. However, there is nothing surprising about it since I have played a lot of games.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

18. Blue Lagoon:

Love this game! I think I like it even more than Through the Desert the more I play it. Seriously mean and exciting abstract type game. Really a game for me. Knizia for the win!

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

19. Spring Meadow:

3rd game in the series. I liked Indian Summer better than Cottage Garden and I liked this more than Indian Summer. I do like the artwork and colors best in Indian Summer. I think this game has a nice mix of both of the prior games and will be the game I go to teach when I am looking for a nice game in the genre.

7.5/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

20. Villainous:

The theme is awesome. Player pawns are AMAZING- seriously amazing stuff an the rank of this game will bump a notch because of it. The overall gameplay is not for me. I don't like the asymmetric goals and take that element of the game. Maybe better with only 2 players, I don't know. Not one I really want to play again.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

21. Plouf Party:

Adorable push your luck game. Harmless and a perfect 5 minute filler. Would play anytime.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

22. Monster Crunch! The Breakfast Battle Game:

Climbing game with adorable art and an instant throwback memory fest to the cereals you probably ate as a kid. Cute theme. Simple rules and easy to grasp game. Would play anytime. Would never replace Tichu though.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

23. Tower of Madness:

Kerplunk? We wanted more dexterity and less dice rolling push your luck mechanics. All around a cute game and one I could play again. Wish it played in a faster time and had less finicky rules. You need the right crowd for this.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

24. Symphony No.9:

Interesting game but we were all hoping for a very thematic game, and it is just not that. Definitely more abstract and Euro-like. Just went in with different expectations. Would happily play this again.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

25. Rainbow Knights:

YES! The only game in which I can play as the Rainbow Player! Why can't all games have a Rainbow Player? Speed game where you are building a path and trying to get rid of all your cards first. Very cute and fast game!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

26. Brothers:

This game took me by surprise! I LOVE this one! Simple abstract for 2 or 4 players and one I could play anytime. Easily a top fav from the month.

8/10 After several plays (Owned)

27. Amun-Re: The Card Game:

Shorter and I think better than The Boardgame. Others at the table would disagree with me. I like being able to keep all your hard earned pyramids. I would say if you like the boardgame than this is worth a play.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

28. Penk!:

Simple roll-n-write. Mostly harmless, but nothing too exciting about it either. Don't think it will outshine all the other roll-n-writes out there. Would gladly play it again though.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

29. Nyctophobia:

Unique game with blindfolded players. Since I can't take pictures blindfolded- I will always have to play the killer... Axe murderer on the loose! Interesting game and would make for a perfect Halloween game.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

30. Deckscape: The Fate of London:

I like this series of escape rooms. I love the puzzles. Not too challenging but still thinking. This was a great one and I would recommend it.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

31. Dragon Pets:

Dragons are so cute! All in all, it is a dice drafting game with some set collection. Not great game play though. Not sure this will get to the table a whole lot.

4.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

32. Dragons:

This is an adorable Dragon game with push your luck and set collection. In the realm of Coloretto and so totally thematic. Dragon collecting his loot! Don't forget to feed him!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

33. Fluff:

Liar's Dice! So happy to have a copy of this game and that it is so dang cute! I would recommend it to anyone, and I hope this brings in more people to the gaming world since it is sold at Target!

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

34. Dance of the Fireflies:

Not an entry level game. Finicky rules and not intuitive at all. Once you get past all of that then you get into a mediocre game. Beautiful art bonus though.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

35. Minute Realms:

Sort of reminded me of Majesty: For the Realm. All in all, this wasn't bad but it wasn't as good. I would gladly play this one again, but it was a bit forgettable in the end.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

36. Sailor Moon Crystal: Dice Challenge:

Button Men re-themed push your luck dice capturing game. I kinda want to go watch Sailor Moon now. Cute game, not sure how frequently it will get played.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

37. Short Order Hero:

A game that is not for me. Find ingredients and make the recipes. Ho Hum boring game.

2/10 After 1 play (Owned)

38. Mercado:

Push your luck bag building type game. Trying to create sets in the middle to claim the tiles and points. Unsure about the score track though, makes for weird play and timing. Was interesting but not sure there is much there with repeated plays.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

39. Trade on the Tigris:

Hey! A trading game I don't dislike! Lots of interesting choices and negotiations. Some of the end of track cards seem more powerful than others, but it is to be explored more. Plays well with large player counts so that is always nice. Enjoyable and awesome production from TMG as per usual.

6.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

40. Smiths of Winterforge:

Beautiful game. Dwarves forging the materials for their contracts to try and gain points. Action selection type game. Sort of push your luck with some dice rolling. Interesting euro type game, one I need to play again for sure. Perhaps too much luck on a dice roll at the end, maybe you just roll poorly and then lose because of it. Can possibly be an issue.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

41. Space Park:

The game with art and colors that all other games should strive to be. Simple gameplay and clever. Could play with any level of gamer and I hear plays a good solo mode. Very enjoyable!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

42. The Marching Cats:

Simple memory game but you are trying to collect different cats. Not a game I really have to return to but it was harmless.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

43. 3 Secrets:

Interesting 20 questions type game but you really can ask as many questions as you want trying to learn the secrets the card has to offer. Fast game but some stories are a bit out there and random which makes it totally difficult.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

44. Jungli-La:

Push your luck dice game. Cute but ran a bit long for my taste. Would gladly play again and keep it to 3 players. Not a fan of the art but the mechanics are interesting and I would play again.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

45. Micropolis:

Not really into ants, but they are cartoonized ants and are kinda cute. Love the puzzle and drafting of tiles. A bit vicious but clever choices in a fast gameplay. Very much enjoyed.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

46. Spirits of the Wild:

2 player game of collecting gems. Beautiful and worth the $15 on Amazon cost, especially if you play 2 player games.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

47. Caper:

2 player tug of war type game with not tug of war type scoring! Best in the genre with adorable art. I love drafting type games and this is lots of fun.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

48. Jungle Race:

A game trying to be like Bucket Brigade but doesn't quite get there. Just didn't work for our group.

3/10 After 1 play (Owned)

49. Carson City: The Card Game:

I love this game! I have only played it once so it might go up or down with more plays, but this game is totally right up my alley and one I could play anytime. Love simultaneous bidding and tile placement.

9/10 After 1 play (Owned)

50. Yellow & Yangtze:

I liked this a lot more than Tigris & Euphrates, but I will probably be in the minority. I think the hexes are great and I really liked the use of the wild. The Wilds make it a less harsh of a game. Would like to play this again soon.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

51. Xi'an:

Thought it was an abstract, and it is really not an abstract. Interesting card and action selection game. Nothing outstanding with this game, but not a bad game. Would play again.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

52. TopSpin:

More of a toy than a game. Spin the top and try to get balls in the holes. Not much control but fun to try nonetheless.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

53. Hippo:

Roll dice to secure area control in the pool. Try to get rid of the life preservers. Super cute, but not much to it.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

54. Catalyst:

Interesting card drafting game. Beautiful art. I had a good time playing this one and will play again.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

55. Deckscape: Heist in Venice:

Really enjoying the Deckscape games and this was better than the first since each player got to play as someone with hidden talents. Clever and fun to play.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

56. Demon Worker:

Amazing art and a fun worker placement game. Super tight money and everything totally matters. Reminded me of Hell Village (which came after this). Easy to learn and play and I look forward to more plays.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

57. Word Slam Family:

Well, it is essentially Word Slam in a compact box and categories. Love the upgrades! It is so hard! Perhaps family is misleading but I love this game. I think I will end up keeping this and giving the original to my mom.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

58. The Island of Doctor Lucky:

I like the witty location names and cards. The gameplay is a bit of a luck fest so it almost goes with the name of the game. It is not a game that went over well with the group, but I didn't mind it. Probably one I won't end up playing again.

4/10 After 1 play (Owned)

59. Heart of Crown:

Deck builder with elements of Tanto Cuore. You can see inspiration from that one with all the standard elements of Dominion. The way cards are revealed are interesting though. Perhaps too much text on the action cards though. Love the art.

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

Welcome to Steph's "New to Me" List 2018!

This year I have made the goal of learning 300 400 games!

Steph's Awesome Spectrum Rating System!

Steph's Sad Cloud Rating 1-2.5/10
Steph's Bland Rainbow Rating 3-4.5/10
Steph's Primary Rainbow Rating 5-7/10 (Solid Play)
Steph's Super Rainbow Rating 7.5-8.5 (Keepers)
Steph's Double Rainbow Rating 9-10/10 (Top Favorites)

July List

1. Ladder 29:

Ladder climbing game that is trying so hard to be Tichu and just not working for me at all. Really hand dependent and hard to control, it seemed. Missed partnerships in the game. All in all not really one I would care to revisit.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

2. Easy Breezy Travel Agency:

I am a big fan of J. Alex Kevern so I had to try out this small card game. All in all, it was a miss for me at 4 players. It needed something more to really grasp me. It might work better with fewer players so you can find some more strategy and planning involved. Would try again.

5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

3. Concept Kids: Animals:

Hey this is a clever game for kids. I enjoyed Concept, but this is better since I can actually figure things out! I could totally play this at family events with kids. Very cute.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

4. Just One:

Co-op Party type game where there is one word that players are trying to clue using one word of their own for the active player to guess without using the same words, but you can not discuss. It was a fun game and one I could easily see playing more of.

5.5/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

5. Pioneer Days:

I love dice drafting games. I think the whole play is a bit too long and not enough to really make it stand out. I totally enjoy playing it though and will bring it out on occasion. I enjoy it!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

6. Teotihuacan: City of Gods:

A_M_A_Z_I_N_G Could easily be the best game of the year. Will be MANY people's favorite from 2018, I am sure of it. Very thinky Rondel game. One I will play at least 10 more times this year. Totally been on my mind and a Tzolkin fan will find similarities, but this is superior! LOVE IT! 9.5 with possibilities of becoming 10/10.

9.5/10 After 2 plays (Not Owned/ WILL OWN)

7. Prototype- Dark Side of the Mine:

Prototype card game. Hand management and quick card game. Hidden cards will be revealed and it is like a shadow moving around. Pretty interesting mechanic. Not going to rate this since it is still early stages.

-/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

8. Dice Settlers:

Bag building dice game! Lots of opportunities to manipulate the dice and loads of options. It is a 4X game in like 45 minutes. It was awesome. I am so pleased that I was a backer for this KS. I can't wait to get the final game in my hands so I can play more. NSKN is on FIRE!

8/10 After 1 play (Not Owned/ Preordered)

9. End of the Trail:

Tough to teach with a mesh of mechanics. Fewer mechanics might have gone over better with the groups I played with. Amazing production on the game and easy once you play a few times, but not intuitive. Happy to play it.

6/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

10. Cahoots:

Not exactly a trick-taking game but hand management where playing cards from your hand when the timing is everything. I think Cahoots is a great name for the game since you want to get in sync with your other partners depending on what cards are being played. Tricky game and there is more than meets the eye with this one.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

11. Galaxy Wrestling Federation:

Played with 3 and probably not best with 3. I would definitely want to play with more players. Playing cards to get the belts! Not sure how much staying power is here but one to try again for sure.

5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

12. 10 Minute Heist: The Wizard's Tower:

Really plays in 10 minutes! wonderful set collect game with some abstract planning. Had a great time playing and would totally look to playing the other(s) in the series. Clever little game which I had a blast playing!

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

13. Pioneers:

Hidden gem from Essen. Wasn't available US but I think is coming or is so you can be on the lookout for it. Very interesting action selection game with lots to manage and think about. Thinky yet plays out quickly. Great time playing this and will gladly request it.

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

14. Run Metro:

Total miss for me. I was just bored and didn't find exciting plays or didn't care to. It just didn't work, but the quality and look was there, I wanted to love it.

4/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

15. HIKTORUNE:

So interesting and exciting. Just wanted to pull the cards from the stack and have it not fall over! Very excited about this one. Love the quality and artwork too. #wanttoplaymore

7/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

16. ふくろと金貨 (Moneybags):

Fun but far too long for me. Just kinda want to play a single round any more just seemed to drag on. Amazing coins and clver play. Would play again but don't need to own it.

6/10 After 1 play (Not Owned)

17. Shifting Realms:

Love the idea of the different realms and stories and objectives. You might not need to focus on all of them but some of them. Opportunities to do well in all of these though. Clever euro style game and one with lots to explore. Excited to play more.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

18. BarBEARian Battlegrounds:

Super cute dice bluffing type game! plays out super fast and was fun to push your luck against the other players. Easy to pick up and learn and could play whenever requested. Cute!

6/10 After 1 play (Owned)

19. Pantone: The Game:

Amazing Party game! Not nearly enough cards for the number of plays I want to play this game. Incredible fun and could have easily been the top game for any other month. Really love working with colors in any way I can and this is all about that. Always happy to play this.

9/10 After 1 play (Owned)

20. Quests of Valeria:

A small boxed card game which reminded me of Lords fo Waterdeep. Very quick and clever game, with amazing art. probably best with 2 or 3 players to keep the game quick. Highly enjoyable and would happily play again.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

21. VivaJava: The Coffee Game:

Interesting that it will play best with 7 or 8 which is highly unusual. You just need the right crowd! Lots of fun to try and push your luck and get the best blend! There is even a rainbow blend. Had a great time playing this one and look forward to another play soon.

7/10 After 1 play (Owned)

22. Star Realms: Frontier:

Awesome!! If you love Star Realms... This is a no brainer! New cards 4 players. Just awesome. SR is one of my favs and it continues to impress!

8/10 After 1 play (Owned)

23. Queendomino:

I enjoyed Kingdomino but I REALLY like Queen so much more. There is definitely more gamer game in here and makes it all so much better. Will gladly play this anytime and has a secure spot in the collection.

8/10 After 2 plays (Owned)

24. Everdell:

OMG SO CUTE! Amazing production and wonderful game play. Pleasently surprised by this game. Defintely a lot of combos to create. reminded me of Seasons and is good fun. Happy to and would suggest playing it.

7.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)

25. Scarabya:

YAY! More multi-player solitaire games I love so much. Reminds me most of Das Labyrinth des Pharao to try and enclose spaces. Love it though because it is easy to take out and play. Can't wait to play more and more.

8.5/10 After 1 play (Owned)
