A quick look at what I've been playing and buying this quarter, and a comparison to last year.

Total plays: 149 (2014 had 123, 2013 had 99)

Distinct games: 64 (2014 had 60, 2013 had 43)

New-to-me games: 15 (21 in 2014, 11 in 2013)

Dimes: 3 (0 in 2014, 1 in 2013) - Codenames (17), Pairs (17), Baseball Highlights: 2045 (12)

Nickels: 3 (6 in 2014, 3 in 2013) - Castellion (8), 6 nimmt! (5), Beasty Bar (5)

The main event was three days away with the LoBsters in Eastbourne.

And now a look at the collection.

Acquired: 5 - G.Nome, Pax Pamir, Neanderthal, Twilight, Castellion (plus RFTG and TTR expansions)

Removed: 10 - Bison, Cards Against Humanity, Indigo, Shear Panic, Zooloretto, Klunker, Pala, Court of the Medici, Trump Tricks Game, On The Cards

Owned: 149 (excluding expansions - down from 154 at end Q3)

Unplayed: 2 - Glenn's Gallery, Neanderthal

A couple of gifts, a longstanding order from Sierra Madre and a very cheap tricktaker came in, but a minor purge meant the collection only grew by a net 5 games in 2015. It's also now handsomely housed in a new shelving unit under the stairs.

Best new-to-me: Ponzi Scheme only had one play but showed a lot of promise.

New 10s: none

Just a quick look at what I've been playing and buying so far this year, and a comparison to last year.

Total plays: 169 (2014 had 100, 2013 had 199)

Distinct games: 67 (2014 had 54, 2013 had 74)

New-to-me games: 15 (2014 had 18, 2013 had 27)

Dimes: 4 (0 in 2014, 4 in 2013) - Codenames (20), Pairs (20), Baseball Highlights: 2045 (16), Neue Spiele im alten Rom (10)

Nickels: 4 (5 in 2014, 3 in 2013) - Love Letter (6), Cribbage (5), In a Bind (5), Elements (5).

Nothing out of the ordinary here, but nice to see the new-to-me games down a bit. What the stats don't reveal is two great visits from geekbuddies from the US - Tom Shields and Cole Wehrle - and a weekend with LoBster friends.

And now a look at the collection.

Acquired: 6 (5 in 2014, 4 in 2013) - Blockers!, Baseball Highlights: 2045, In a Bind, Neue Spiele im alten Rom, Safranito, Codenames

Removed: 0

Owned: 154 (excluding expansions - up 6 from Q3)

Unplayed: 2 - Bison: Thunder on the Prairie, Glenn's Gallery

The collection swelled a bit as a few orders arrived. I don't really regret any of them, but I think the time has come for a purge. Especially as we're going to need the spare room for something else from next March...

I got Four Dragons played and enjoyed it, but it might become yet another of my underplayed tricktakers. One day I will play Bison!

Best new-to-me: Codenames has been a huge amount of fun. Neue Spiele in Alten Rom is great too, but since it's a compilation of 14 Knizia games, that's a bit of an unfair advantage

New 10s: Baseball Highlights, from nowhere, sealed by some hilarious plays with Tom in a tent in Wales and great 3p and 4p tournaments with the LoBsters.

Just a quick look at what I've been playing and buying so far this year, and a comparison to last year.

Total plays: 184 (2014 had 169, 2013 had 204)

Distinct games: 73 (2014 had 69, 2013 had 105)

New-to-me games: 27 (2014 had 17, 2013 had 31)

Dimes: 3 (2 in 2014, 2 in 2013) - Witness (22), Pairs (16), Sylvion (12)

Nickels: 5 (4 in 2014, 5 in 2013) - Onirim (8), The Game (7), Go/Stop (6), Abluxxen (5), Love Letter (5)

A pretty standard quarter by all these metrics. LoBstercon made up for an April that was otherwise occupied by moving house, and boosted the new-to-me plays as usual. Solo gaming continued with Sylvion and I got to host my first games nights in Bristol!

And now a look at the collection.

Acquired: 4 (7 in 2014, 5 in 2013) - Witness, Basari: Das Kartenspiel, Go/Stop and Sylvion

Removed: 4 (Basari, Venture, Monad and Master Merchant)

Owned: 148 (excluding expansions - no change from Q1)

Unplayed: 4 - Bison: Thunder on the Prairie, Glenn's Gallery, IceDice, Four Dragons

No net change in the collection size, but I do have a few orders in the pipeline (Baseball Highlights, 2xIceDice to complete my Zendo set, In a Bind, Blockers, Pax Pamir and Neanderthal!) so need to look out for opportunities to chop. Zero change in the unplayed list either.

Best new-to-me: on plays Witness and Sylvion should take it, but I hugely enjoyed my first experience of Baseball Highlights 2045 and can't wait to get my hands on my own copy.

New 10s: I upgraded Cosmic Encounter and Tichu after further plays at LoBstercon and elsewhere confirmed that I'll never get sick of them.

Just a quick look at what I've been playing and buying so far this year, and a comparison to last year.

Total plays: 142 (2014 had 205, 2013 had 140)

Distinct games: 48 (2014 had 67, 2013 had 56)

New-to-me games: 17 (2014 had 14, 2013 had 21)

Dimes: 3 (3 in 2014, 3 in 2013) - Onirim (30), Pairs (22), Patchwork (11)

Nickels: 2 (8 in 2014, 4 in 2013) - Impulse (8), Wir sind das Volk! (5)

The biggest new trend of the month was probably finding some solo games I enjoyed. As well as the 30 plays of Onirim, I spent the best part of a couple of weekends learning and playing 4 games of Navajo Wars.

And now a look at the collection.

Acquired: 6 (6 in 2014, 7 in 2013) - IceDice, Onirim (Second Edition), Potato Man, Pairs, Patchwork and Navajo Wars

Removed: 2 (Kreta and Tower of Babel)

Owned: 148 (excluding expansions - up from 144 at end 2014)

Unplayed: 4 - Bison: Thunder on the Prairie, Glenn's Gallery, IceDice, Four Dragons

Bison and Glenn's Gallery still stuck in the unplayed, though I did play Members Only, which is essentially the same game as GG. Temporarily hitting 150 prompted me to put a few games on the axe list. Two have already gone and three or four more are spoken for.

Best new-to-me: Patchwork - Uwe remembered how to make simple games and it's awesome.

New 10s: none, but after 11 plays Wir sind das Volk! is threatening it.

New-to-me games: 21 (11 in 2013)

Dimes: 0 (1 in 2013)

Nickels: 6 (3 in 2013) - Elements, Red7, Impulse, Aton, Wir sind das Volk! and Potato Man.

My gaming in Bristol has settled into a comfortable groove, complemented by a trip away with the Lobsters where most of the new-to-me games came from.

And now a look at the collection.

Acquired: 8 - Greenland, Wir sind das Volk!, Mexica, Simply Ingenious (gift), Indigo, Four Dragons, Klunker, Cards Against Humanity (gift).

Removed: 0

Owned: 144 (excluding expansions - up from 136 at end Q3)

Unplayed: 5 - Bison: Thunder on the Prairie, Glenn's Gallery, Trump, Tricks, Game!, Four Dragons, Klunker.

The perennials are joined (temporarily) by a couple of recent acquisitions. A bit of a splurge this quarter, by my current standards. I aim to restrict my acquisitions to an average of one a month in 2015.

Best new-to-me: Wir sind das Volk!, followed by Greenland. At least I chose my shiny Essen acquisitions well.

Just a quick look at what I've been playing and buying this quarter, and a comparison to Q3 last year.

Total plays: 100 (2013 had 199)

Distinct games: 54 (2013 had 74)

New-to-me games: 18 (27 in 2013)

Dimes: 0 (4 in 2013)

Nickels: 5 (3 in 2013) - Red7 (9), 6 nimmt! (8), Port Royal (8), Abluxxen (5) and Hanabi (5).

A couple of major interruptions to gaming in the form of the World Cup (I watched nearly every game) and two weeks visiting the in-laws in the US. But that trip did also allow me to enjoy a fantastic gaming weekend in Dayton with a few of my best geekbuddies.

Other than that, this quarter has represented the 'new normal'. I quit my teacher-training course (which left me zero time for games) at Christmas, having decided it really wasn't for me, and then spent 6 months job hunting and doing a bit of freelance work, allowing me to get in lots of lunchtime gaming with a friend in Bristol. At the end of June I started my new job at the UK's national statistics office and have settled into a pattern of regular Tuesday game nights plus occasional Thursdays.

And now a look at the collection.

Acquired: 5 - Lost Valley: The Yukon Goldrush 1896, Red7, Quantum, Impulse and Elements (4 in 2013)

Removed: 1 - A Study in Emerald

Owned: 136 (excluding expansions - up from 132 at end Q2)

Unplayed: 3 - Bison: Thunder on the Prairie, Glenn's Gallery and Trump, Tricks, Game! (exactly the same games as at end Q2)

A bit of collection growth but I don't feel too bad as all five are excellent, were good bargains and have had multiple plays. In fact most of the purchase cost was covered by my sale of ASiE. While it's a fascinating game, it demands regular play with an enthusiastic group to shine, and I don't have that.

Best new-to-me: a tie between two contrasting new Carl Chudyk designs: the intricate Impulse and the brilliantly simple Red7.

Just a quick look at what I've been playing and buying this quarter, and a comparison to Q2 last year.

Total plays: 169 (2013 had 204)

Distinct games: 69 (2013 had 105)

New-to-me games: 17 (31 in 2013)

Dimes: 2 (2 in 2013) - Port Royal (37), and Manoeuvre (11)

Nickels: 4 (5 in 2013) - Quantum, Linko!, Hanabi and Love Letter

The latter part of the quarter was heavily affected by the World Cup. Other than that it was a great gaming period, highlighted by a 4-day weekend of gaming with the LoB crew over Easter. I didn't learn that many new games (good!) but those I did, I played a lot. One factor was a great run of 2p games at lunchtimes, but changes in circumstances will bring that to an end now, meaning Q3 may be a bit thin.

And now a look at the collection.

Acquired: 7 (5 in 2013) - Port Royal, Linko!, Taj Mahal, Havana, Pylos, 2 de Mayo and Trump, Tricks, Game!

Removed: 2 - Niagara and Wildlife Adventure

Owned: 132 (excluding expansions - up from 127 at end Q1)

Unplayed: 3 - Bison: Thunder on the Prairie, Glenn's Gallery and Trump, Tricks, Game! (same as end Q1)

Well my remark last quarter about reaching peak collection may have been a little premature Still pretty healthy though - three cheap card games, a gift, two bargains from The Works and a trade. Perennials Bison and Glenn's Gallery stay on the unplayed list - I just haven't tried to push them. San Quentin Kings got to the table a couple of times and was much enjoyed.

Best new-to-me: several good ones but Port Royal takes it with nearly 40 plays.

Just a quick look at what I've been playing and buying so far this year, and a comparison to last year.

Total plays: 205! (2013 had 140)

Distinct games: 67 (2013 had 56)

New-to-me games: 14 (21 in 2013)

Dimes: 3 (3 in 2013) - Race for the Galaxy (36), Kingdom Builder (14) and Aton (11)

Nickels: 8 (4 in 2013) - Innovation, Love Letter, Pax Porfiriana, Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small, Elements, Take it Easy!, The Palaces of Carrara and A Study in Emerald

I got into the groove with my new group in Bristol and also had two fantastic weekends of gaming with old friends. Nice to see more average plays per game, fewer new games and lots of nickels and dimes. Race for the Galaxy and Kingdom Builder were both reinvigorated by excellent expansions and some new favourites entered the roster.

And now a look at the collection.

Acquired: 6 (7 in 2013) - A Study in Emerald, Take it Easy!, Aton, Brass: Lancashire, 6 nimmt! and San Quentin Kings

Removed: 13

Owned: 127 (excluding expansions - down from 134 at end 2013)

Unplayed: 3 - Bison: Thunder on the Prairie, Glenn's Gallery and San Quentin Kings (down one from end 2013)

Looks like I might have reached peak collection! I did some good many-to-one trades in the UK maths trade and purchased a couple of top ten games that I really ought to own. I finally got Cosmic Eidex off the unplayed list and it was great! Hope Bison will follow the example...

Best new-to-me: for now, A Study in Emerald, but I still can't make my mind up if it's a glorious mess or just a mess.

New 10s: after 100 and 70 plays respectively, Love Letter and Kingdom Builder have earned their place in my personal hall of fame.

A quick look at what I've been playing and buying this quarter, and a comparison to last year.

Total plays: 99 (2012 had 246!)

Distinct games: 43 (2012 had 93)

New-to-me games: 11 (45 in 2012, mainly thanks to Essen)

Dimes: 1 (4 in 2012) - Scopa

Nickels: 3 (4 in 2012) - The Palaces of Carrara, Hanabi and Aton.

November saw the least gaming since I discovered the hobby but December saw a good revival over the festive period.

And now a look at the collection.

Acquired: 3 - Fauna, Glenn's Gallery and Cockroach Poker Royal (too many to think about in 2012 thanks to Essen again!)

Removed: 1 - Vanuatu

Owned: 134 (excluding expansions - up from 132 at end Q3)

Unplayed: 4 - Bison: Thunder on the Prairie, Cosmic Eidex, Volle Scholle, Glenn's Gallery (same as at end Q3)

Argh, still haven't got Bison and Cosmic Eidex off the list! The collection is definitely in stabilisation mode now, and could probably stand to shrink a bit.

Best new-to-me: Aton, a late entry but a good one with 6 plays in the course of two days.

A quick look at what I've been playing and buying this quarter, and a comparison to last year.

Total plays: 199 (2012 had 126)

Distinct games: 74 (2012 had 76)

New-to-me games: 27 (28 in 2012)

Dimes: 4 (0 in 2012) - Scopa, Mascarade, Hanabi and Love Letter

Nickels: 3 (5 in 2012) - Pax Porfiriana, Cribbage and Briscola.

An interesting quarter! July featured 10 days in Italy (hence learning Scopa and Briscola), August helping run the boardgames room at the NineWorlds 'geekfest' and lots of gaming with friends from LoB before moving to Bristol. There's been less chance to play since then but I have fallen in with a nice group. It'll be interesting to see how my new play pattern settles out.

And now a look at the collection.

Acquired: 4 - Pala, Mascarade, The Palaces of Carrara and Romans Go Home! (5 in 2012)

Removed: 6 - San Marco, High Society, Money!, My Kind of Town, Let's Take a Hike and Fzzzt!

Owned: 131 (excluding expansions - down from 133 at end Q2)

Unplayed: 4 - Bison: Thunder on the Prairie, Cosmic Eidex, Volle Scholle, Pala (down from 5 at end Q2)

One recent acquisition which I must get played soon. Bison and Cosmic Eidex still stubbornly sticking around from almost a year ago! Nice to see the collection stabilise, and I don't have the looming threat of Essen this year

Best new-to-me: a close call between traditional Italian fishing game Scopa (a huge hit with my wife) and Faidutti's rather brilliant Mascarade.
