Ohanami is a little Cardgame in a Japanese setting. The thematically it's light but colorfull and cheerful.

Somewhere in one of the Japanese gardens

Box & Components

Colorful cards like a flower painting

Opening the Box

The four types of Colour cards

Ohanami consists of a deck of 120 cards that are numbered from 1-120, with each card having one of four symbols on it. The game lasts three rounds, with players scoring at the end of each round, in addition to bonus scoring at the end of the game.

Game Overview with four players

At the start of a round, each player receives a hand of ten cards. Each player chooses two cards, then passes the remaining cards to the left. All players reveal their cards at the same time, then decide whether to use 0, 1, or 2 of them in personal rows of cards. When you start a row, you can use any card; to add a card to an existing row, that card must be higher than the row's highest card or lower than the lowest one. A player can have at most three rows of cards. Discard any cards you don't use.

Players hand

The game play will repeat this drafting and passing. When they have played ten cards, the first round will end. Players will receive 3 points for each blue card in their rows on the table.
At the start of round two each one will receive ten new card on their hands. At the end of the 2th round for each blue card 3 points will be given and 4 for each green card.

Close Up

In the 3th round will work the same but at the end player will receive 7 points for each of the gray cards in their garden rows. Also the blue and green will be counted again. The pink Cherries will be counted two but in a pyramidal scoring, one card 1 point, 2 … 3point .. 3 cards 6 point etc. ..

Players view

At the end of round 3 all points will be counted from each round and the gardener with the most points will have the best garden.

The game play is solid and fast and easy to learn. For me it works as a little filler or played with my teenagers at home.

Ducosim organizes a game fair in Amersfoort, the Netherlands three times a year. This is for board games, miniature games, and heavy wargames.
This time I went with my son to the Summer edition with an extra festivity namely the
nomination of the Dutch Games Prize for Family and Expert to be made known to all relevant jury members.
One of the conditions for the prize is that the Dutch game rules are present in the game box. Since the Netherlands
being a relatively small country does not translate all titles, but in the meantime, enough beautiful titles are published.

The Dutch Games Prize, the quality award for Dutch-style board games. This game prize was created in 2001 by the national games association Ducosim, to offer the playing consumer an independent value judgment.

The Dutch Games Prize is divided into two categories: the Dutch Games Prize - Family and the Dutch Games Prize - experts. A family game is suitable for a large audience, including children from 8 years.
An expert game requires a little more playing experience.

For the best family play in the Netherlands nominated:

Luxor - Forgotten Treasures - Queen Games

Azul - Asmodee Netherlands / Hot games

The Mind - White Goblin Games

For the best expert game in the Netherlands nominated:

Chimera Station - The Game Brewer

Gaia Project - White Goblin Games

Paco Ŝako - Hot Games

The fair is meant for the members and also for the public, which plays a board game less often.
In the halls, the new titles are often demonstrated by publishers so you can always sit and play
is explained enthusiastically.

There are often beginning or smaller Dutch publishers at the fair that can be found with a prototype or a starting Kickstarter.

Photo impression of .... Brass Birmingham

When I read a few months ago that Brass got a reissue with new colorful and slightly dramatic images, my interest was aroused.
Brass one of my favorite games of the past decades.
The beautifully streamlined mechanism with the action cards always gives beautiful sometimes difficult decisions.
The new Birmingham card plays well and offers, among other things, the beer and pottery new ways in which you as a player can put your creativity.

In the game, I always taste the historic romanticism of the industrial revolution, although the reality was really different.
The dark pewter also gives me the burden that the heavy work entailed for the ordinary workers.

For the passion of Martin Wallace, I am indebted to him how he wonderfully interweaves history and open game techniques for us
play fun at the table.

During one of the play evenings in Hilversum, I could try the game because one of the members
brought with it. But the box will also be nice in my game box.
Designers Gavan Brown, Matt Tolman, and Martin Wallace have created a beautifully refined product with Artists Lina Cossette, David Forest, and Damien Mammoliti.
brought on the market! They can do this more often!

During the evening I took some photo's during our gameplay.

not to support the image with a bit more story.

Once upon a time in the west ..... a new card game was seen in the Saloon

Xavier Georges from a big box to a smart card game

In Carson City: The Card Game, each player is in charge of developing a city. You and your opponents try to choose the most lucrative parcels of land and buildings, then place these parcels and buildings wisely so as to make your city as prosperous as possible.

You can also win the support and gain the help of the most influential people in the city.

Players have their own symbol on their desk of cards

Influential people

Do not ignore your opponents as they will try to make the best moves in your stead, with a trick-taking mechanism determining who goes first in each round.

Do not let your opponents take it too easily because certain cards can give a lot of bonus points.
It can be played smoothly miss you well anticipates the cards that you want to grab from the offer.
The symbols work clearly and artwork fits nicely into the atmosphere of the western theme.

Altiplano, a bag-building game along the lines of Orléans set in the South American highlands of the Andes — the Altiplano — is not a simple game, presenting players with new challenges time and again.

There are various ways to reach the goal, so the game remains appealing to try out new options and strategies, but success or failure also depends on whether your opponents let you do as you like or thwart the strategy you are pursuing.

Altiplano

The competition for the individual types of goods is considerable — as is the fun in snatching a coveted extension card from under another player's nose!

At the start of the game, players have access only to certain resources and goods, due to the different role tiles that each player receives that provide them. At the market, however, a player can acquire additional production sites that give new options. The numerous goods — such as fish, alpaca, cacao, silver, or corn — all have their own characteristics and places where they can be used. Whereas silver makes you rich, fish can be exchanged for other goods, and alpaca give you wool that you can then make into cloth.

Aside from building up an effective production, you must deliver the right goods at the right time, develop the road in good time, and store your goods cleverly enough to fill the most valuable rows with them. Often, a good warehouseperson is more relevant in the end than the best producer.
