Tides of Time released for iOS/Android
We mentioned it just last week and today it's become reality. We're talking about the digital version of Tides of Time from Portal Games!
Tides of Time is a 2-player card game all about building up a civilization and, more importantly, nabbing victory points.Portal wrote:Tides of Time combines the ease of play of a micro game with the strategic depth of set collection and drafting for a unique two player experience. The players are dealt a hand of 5 cards and draft one card at a time, passing their hands between them after each selection. Each card has a suit as well as a unique scoring rule that may score the player points based on the suits of cards drafted. At the end of each round, the players select one card to keep in their kingdom for future rounds as a Relic of the Past. The game has AI for solo play and pass-and-play if you want to go the multiplayer route. There's no online play, but Ignacy Trzewiczek has said that it will come in a later update "if the app is well-received".
The iOS version is $5 and I'm assuming the Android version is right around there. Why am I assuming? Because the Google Play page doesn't list a price. I'm not sure why...it doesn't say "install" like other free-to-download games do, either. Someone with an Android device can set me straight in the comments, I'm sure. Otherwise, links below!

Temple Gates and Stone Blade Entertainment open the beta gates for Shards of Infinity
Another 2-player card game, Shards of Infinity, is coming to digital this year as well. The cardboard version is from Stone Blade Entertainment, but the digital version is coming from Temple Gates Games LLC who you might remember from their awesome port of Race for the Galaxy.
We don't have a release window or anything (other than Spring 2019...so I guess we do have a release window) for Shards of Infinity, but we do have an open beta that is beginning today. Right now! Seriously, you can go sign up at this link and become what you've always wanted to be: a beta tester.Temple Gates wrote:Shards of Infinity is the second mobile board game release for Temple Gates Games, coming on the heels of the award winning Race for the Galaxy app. “The reason to play a board game on your phone is to take advantage of digital-only features,” says Theresa Duringer, CEO of Temple Gates Games, “including AI, automated setup and score keeping, and the ability to play with friends remotely. Our goal is to nail these with lickety split performance.” The AI for Shards of Infinity is an extension of Keldon Jones’ AI for Race for the Galaxy, which uses neural networks to create challenging opponents. The beta is for anyone, whether your platform of choice is iOS, Android, or Steam. The only one to offer a free beta platform is iOS, so if you're an Android or Steam user, be prepared to pay for Early Access, but the bright side being you own the game when it actually launches. iOS uses TestFlight, so you can get the beta free, but will have to pay for the full app down the road. So, it's pretty much the same.
Anyway, the link for signups is below. Head over and join the team.

Galaxy Trucker moves to the big screen, now available for PC/Mac
While the mobile version of Galaxy Trucker is nearly old enough to be in kindergarten, it's still one of the best board game apps ever created. It was Czech Games Edition's first foray into the digital realm and they not only knocked it out of the park, but set the bar for board game apps for the past half decade.
Unfortunately, it's only been on iOS/Android, so if you wanted to sneak a game while pretending to work at your desktop, you were out of luck. Not anymore! Today, Czech Games has released Galaxy Trucker for PC/Mac via Steam!
Titled Galaxy Trucker: Extended Edition, the Steam version comes packed with the original game and all its additions (campaign, turn-based asynchronous play or real-time play just like at the table, and more) and also has the Galaxy Trucker - Alien Technologies expansion packed in as well. So, you're getting everything the mobile version offers at a price that's kind of crazy.
You can nab the PC/Mac version today for just over $6! Six bucks for a game of this caliber is ridiculous and, as you might expect, won't last. It's a launch price that will stick around for a week or so and then it will go to it's regular price of $10 (which is still a bargain).CGE wrote:The award-winning adaptation of Vlaada Chvátil’s award-winning board game. Already includes the ALIEN TECHNOLOGIES expansion!Check it out for mobile and Steam at the links below:
Build space ships, dodge meteors, and fight off bad guys, all in a quest to be the trucker with the most cosmic credits at the end of the game.
“This is one hell of a good game” – Pocket Tactics, rated 5/5
“They hit it out of the park” – BoardGameGeek, rated 5/5
“Hands-down the best adaptation of a board game to the digital format yet seen” – Pocket Gamer, rated 4.5/5
FEATURES:
- Official adaptation of a space-faring classic
- Family-friendly gameplay accessible to all ages
- Build your own spaceship from different tiles
- Local multiplayer on the same device
- Compete online and play multiple games at the same time
- Go frantic in real-time mode, or slow things down in turn-based mode
- A campaign, special ship parts and more exclusive to this digital version!
- Comes with the Alien Technologies expansion!
Can you build a space ship from sewer pipes? Are you willing to face meteors, pirates, and smugglers? Can you fly a five-engine ship after four engines have been destroyed? Then you are our kind of trucker!
We offer good pay, a xenologically diverse crew, and a dynamic work environment. Bonuses paid for prompt delivery.

Portal Bringing Tides of Time to mobile on March 9
Portal Games was one of the first companies to bring their games to mobile way back when Neuroshima Hex! arrived in 2010. They've been relatively quiet since then, but March 9 they're making a splash with the digital release of card game, Tides of Time.Portal wrote:Tides of Time combines the ease of play of a microgame with the strategic depth of the set collection and drafting for a unique two-player experience. At the end of each round, the players select one card to keep in their kingdom for future rounds as a Relic of the Past.According to their Twitter, we can expect it to release on March 9.
Tides of Time was created by Kristian Čurla, and developed by Michał Walczak (Cry Havoc). The game was illustrated by Tomasz Jedruszek, Chris Ostrowski, Dan Pellow, Blake Rottinger, Artur Sadlos, and Rafał Szyma.
Tides of Time was nominated for the 2015 Golden Geek in the Best Card Game and the Best 2-Player Board Game categories.
-play against an AI opponent or against your friend in the Hot Seat mode
-explore the achievement system and master the game
-learn the rules in the Tutorial mode
-play in English or Polish
I don't know anything about this game, but looking at the teaser trailer, it looks awfully shiny. More info when it releases next week for both iOS and Android!

Mystic Vale gets Vale of Magic expansion
As proof that we're living in the Golden Age of digital board games, I offer you Mystic Vale.
Released by Nomad Games Ltd (II) less than a month ago, we've all moved on to other big board game releases like Evolution (2019) and the current target of our collective ire, The Castles of Burgundy. If a game with the name recognition and polish of Mystic Vale had arrived in 2013-2014, it would have been a major contender for GOTY. Instead, when news of the just released expansion landed, my first thought was, "oh, yeah...I forgot about that one." It's only been out for month, people! Either I'm spoiled beyond the dreams of avarice or my memory sucks [can I nominate both? -ed.]
Of course, part of the issue might be Mystic Vale's current platform list. It's currently only available for PC/Mac. Once the promised mobile version comes out, I can see it becoming lodged in my consciousness.
Anyway, those are my problems. The big news from Nomad is that the first expansion is now available! It's the Mystic Vale: Vale of Magic expansion and that means more cards! More cards! More cards! 72 new cards to be exact.Nomad wrote:Mystic Vale - Vale of Magic introduces 54 new advancement cards and 18 vale cards to the Mystic Vale base game, expanding players' options and opening up new crafting combinations. You can nab the new content for $5 right now on Steam. We'll keep you up to date on any other expansion news or, more importantly, when we can expect to see Mystic Vale on our tablets.
This expansion is designed to be mixed straight into the base game.
'The forces of nature and Gaia's blessings are not enough to stop the curse from spreading throughout the Valley of Life. The druidic clans are now harnessing the power of arcane magic to repel the blight and heal the land. While arcane magic offers tremendous power, it can quickly overwhelm those who are unable to control it.'

Digidiced releasing Castles of Burgundy this week
It's only February and yet we've already received two fantastic board game ports. The first came out a couple weeks ago, Evolution (2019), which the latest is due this Thursday. It's our friends at Digidiced UG this time and the game in question is Stefan Feld's The Castles of Burgundy.
First of all, the blurb:Digidiced wrote:Features:So, it's got everything we expect in a top notch Digidiced port. I've been lucky enough to play around with it a bit early and I don't think any fans (or soon-to-be fans) will be disappointed. The presentation is fantastic, the tutorial is extensive, and asynchronous play with CoB should be a perfect fit.
• 1 to 4 players
• Play in single-player with challenging computer opponents, against your friends in local multiplayer, or face players from all over the world in online mode!
• Learn the rules with our Interactive tutorial or even watch games of the top players on your device!
• Take your time in asynchronous game mode with push notifications and never miss a turn.
• Family friendly – non violent theme
• Easy interactive tutorial to learn the game from scratch
• Analyze your best games or learn tricks from the best with playback
• 3 different computer opponents
• uses the newest rules of the board game
It's arriving for iOS, Android, and PC/Mac/Linux via Steam on Thursday, February 28. We don't have a price point, yet, but we'll have a release post when it hits so you don't have to search too hard for the links on your lonesome.
Happy times!

Evolution updates, adapts, adds Creature Discoveries
After a development phase just slightly longer than the second voyage of the HMS Beagle, Evolution (2019) arrived on our devices last week. As we can expect with any new software, the launch had a few hiccups. There were some login issues, some problems with the campaign looping, Android devices not running it at all or just running hot, and more. It's only been a week, but with a slew of updates, NorthStar Game Studio seems to have fixed most (all?) of the major issues.
First of all, the game is running smooth on Android now without turning your phone into a makeshift hotplate. You can login and make online matches without issue now and more. So, hooray!
The bug squashing wasn't the only thing North Star's been working on, however. The latest update introduced something called Creature Discoveries which allows you to see some of your creations in the Evolution art style we've come to know and love. There are 50 unique creatures in the game and, when you make one of them, you'll unlock the art to see what your species looks like if it were made of watercolor.
Which creatures? You'll have to keep playing to try and unlock them all. Try combos that you would have never thought of before! It's worth losing a game to find one, dammit!
Oh, and their contest in which they're giving away 1000 physical copies of Evolution is still going on as well. Simply login and play an online match and you're registered for that day's giveaway of 10 copies. Login and play every day to register for each day's new batch of games. You don't even have to pay for the mobile version to play your one online match a day and register, so there's no excuse.
If you do want to pay for the app, however, today's the last day to snag the launch discount. After today, the price to unlock the mobile version will go up to $10 from it's current cost of $8. If you're a Steam user and would prefer to play on your laptop, Evolution is currently 20% off (down to $12 from $15) and will be through today. Don't dawdle is what I'm saying.
Anyway, Evolution is the first big digital board game release of 2019 and it's a good one, especially with all these fixes implemented. Head to your app store of choice (or Steam) at the links below and give it a go.
- Evolution: The Video Game for iOS Universal, free ($8/$10 to unlock full game)
- Evolution: the Video Game for Android, free (see note about iOS version above)
- Evolution: The Video Game for PC/Mac/Linux via Steam, $12

Evolution released for mobile, PC/Mac. Also, a contest.
It's been nearly five (or more than five? I've lost track) years in the making, but today we can finally sit down and play Evolution (2019) on our phones, tablets, and laptops. That's right, NorthStar Game Studio has done the impossible: released Evolution.
The reason development took so long was so they could polish Evolution to a fine sheen. In fact, we were told they wanted it to be the board game port that all other board game ports will be compared to. From my early tinkering, they may have gotten there.
First of all, it's downright gorgeous and, secondly, it has everything you'd want in a board game app. There's an extensive tutorial if you're new to the game, a lengthy campaign for solo play, AI opponents, online matches, seasonal tournaments, and more. It really has it all, except asynchronous play, but that's coming in a later update.North Star wrote:NATURAL SELECTION IN ACTIONIf you thought the app getting released was good news, wait until you hear this. North Star is running a contest along with the app's release where they're giving away 1000 copies of the physical board game. Yes, I said 1000.
In the game Evolution, you adapt your species to survive, and stay one step ahead of opponents.
-Watering hole running dry? Evolve a long neck to reach food in the trees.
-Staring down a Carnivore? Develop a hard shell to fend off an attack.
-Evolve up the food chain to become a the most successful species.
CHALLENGING AND ADDICTIVE
Do you evolve protection from Carnivores, or find a way to eat if there is no Food in the Watering Hole? The ecosystem is constantly changing, and you’ve got to figure out what your opponents are up to.
INTERACTIVE TUTORIAL
Our friendly professor will guide you from one watering hole to the next on our learn-as-you-play tutorial, showing you how to survive before sending you off to make a name for yourself. Hone your skill as you progress from lowly Biology Intern to competing for the Nobel Prize!
EXPLORE THE CAMPAIGN
Explore the mysteries of Evolution Island and discover distinct Boss opponents. As you move through the campaign you’ll unlock new “Apex Species” that are masters of specific strategies; defeat them to add them to your menu of single-player opponents.
MATCH MADE MULTIPLAYER
One click and the game will match you with players of similar skill in a fast paced online game. Make friends in the game and set up custom games, or rank up in the ongoing seasonal tournaments and see how far you can go.
ENDLESSLY REPLAYS, ONE PRICE
This isn't a collectible card game, the full set of cards are included in the base game. Thousands of possible species combinations evolve from 17 unique trait cards, meaning no two games are ever the same.
PACE & POLISH
With a smooth user interface and fast, informative animations, Evolution was built to satisfy a quick fix of intense strategic battles. Easy to learn, almost impossible to master, one game and you’ll find yourself addicted. Evolution isn’t just a top tier strategy game – it’s a whole new animal.
To win, all you need to do is download the app (it's free on iOS/Android, or you can buy the PC/Mac version) and play online multiplayer games. Each day for the next 100 days, they will select 10 players from the online pool to win a physical copy of the game, all you need to do is pay the shipping.
So, get out there and start playing online games!

Champions of Midgard apparently coming to PC/Mac
Thanks to the eagle eyes of one Scott Nash, it's come to our attention that Grey Fox Games is full of sneaky little devils. Why, you ask? Because their viking-themed worker placement game, Champions of Midgard is currently sitting on Steam waiting for an Early Access release and nobody told us.
Due to the lack of info from Grey Fox, we have a...severe lack of info. Probably not my best sentence ever, but you get the idea.
The game is being developed by MidGameLab and will, apparently, be released for PC and Mac. Due to the aforementioned lack of info, we don't know if there are any plans to bring it to mobile.MidGameLab wrote:The old Jarl has died and his once prosperous port has fallen into a state of catastrophe. Fearsome creatures are coming in droves, driving chaos and destruction before them. Trolls attack the town. Draugr terrorize the nearby villages. Monsters strike at travelers and merchants alike. The people are suffering and you could be their champion.I don't see online multiplayer listed, so maybe CoM is going to be a non-online affair which is odd for a board game. Then again, maybe it's planned but they haven't worked out the details yet. I'd tell you if it weren't for that darned lack of info everyone keeps talking about.
Champions of Midgard blends worker-placement and dice-driven combat to create an exciting and strategic experience. Recruit warriors, gain powerful runes, and peer into the future – then send your faithful fighters on journeys to defeat fierce and mythical beasts. Gain the most glory to become the new Jarl and be recognized as a Champion of Midgard!
Champions of Midgard is a Viking era worker placement game with dice-driven combat. Taking on the roles of competing Viking leaders, players hunt trolls, battle draugr, and slay mythical Norse beasts in a quest for glory!
- This is the official digital adoptation of the famous board game called "Champions of Midgard" from Grey Fox Games
- Possibility to play with AI
- Local Multiplayer
- Animated background
- Rating system included
We'll get on the horn to Russia and see if we can track down any info and, as always, we'll let you know ASAP.

Simply head over to this link and sign up. There are about 400 spots left, so don't dawdle.

Gaia Project on the DIGIDICED table
This one is definitely way, way out there in terms of when we'll see it go live, but it appears that Digidiced UG, developer of the digital version of Terra Mystica, has acquired the rights to bring its sci-fi cousin to our eyeballs as well.
According to this thread (which was brought to our attention by reader Tysen Streib), DIGIDICED has the digital rights to Gaia Project but has a ton of other stuff on their plate before they can get around to actually coding it. Little things like the digital version of The Castles of Burgundy and other, secret projects we don't know about yet.
So, not a lot of info, but it's good to know that it's on the docket and will be handled by the folks who did such a good job with its fantasy forebear.
Gem Rush is (has been) available for PC/Mac/Linux and iOS/Android
I love Victory Point Games mainly because they make awesome solo games and I'm completely friendless and alone. One of the latest games released in their "premier" line is Gem Rush (Second Edition) which has you collecting gems and spending them to dig and expand your mine, gathering VPs in the process. It's a fun game that can be played cooperatively or competitively.
When it was on Kickstarter they mentioned a digital version in the works, but it completely slipped my mind until I stumbled upon it a couple weeks ago. There's a digital version for PC/Mac/Linux as well as iOS and Android that's been around since last year and it's really great. In fact, it's one of the more polished and pretty board game ports you'll find on any platform.[company=12934 wrote:[/company]"]This mountain is rich in mystic gems. Mystic Vale official launch happening this Thursday
The digital version of Mystic Vale has been in Early Access on Steam since early December. Today we learned that it's leaving Early Access and officially launching on Steam this Thursday.
The Thursday release is only on Steam and only for Windows PC, but Nomad Games Ltd (II) has told us that a mobile version is on the way and should be released sometime down the road. No word on which platforms, exactly, as iOS, Android, and Switch were thrown around in our conversations. Will it arrive for all three, only one, or whatever is anyone's guess at this point.
Blurb!Nomad Games wrote:Mystic Vale is a deck-building card game, in which players take on the role of druidic clans trying to cleanse the curse upon the land. Galaxy Trucker bringing the chaos to Steam in March
Back in 2014, Czech Games Edition burst on the digital scene with their first title, Galaxy Trucker. It remains one of the best digital board game conversions ever created, if you wanted to play it on a phone or tablet. In March, it will become one of the best board game conversions regardless of platform when it arrives on Steam for...well, we're not sure yet. I'll assume PC/Mac/Linux until I hear differently. I have a call in with CGE to find out and will update this story as soon as I know which platforms the Steam release will cover.
If you haven't played the digital version and are wondering how a real-time game like Galaxy Trucker could possibly translate into the digital realm, let me tell you that it's pretty flawless. The game offers you to play in the real-time mode that you're familiar with from the board game, but Vlaada Chvátil also created a new "turn-based" mode for GT that lets you pick tiles for action points and...well, let's just say it works wonderfully. In fact, I've played the digital version far more in asynchronous mode than real-time and not been disappointed in the least.
There's also a huge single-player campaign full of new rules, a narrative, and a ton of humor. Seriously, the game is funny. All of this is coming to the Steam version, as well as the Galaxy Trucker - Alien Technologies expansion.CGE wrote:The game was first released on Android and iOS in 2014, has been sold more than 220,000 times in total, and has achieved a high rating of 4.8 on Google Play. The Steam version will include all the features of its mobile counterpart such as real-time or turn-based multiplayer mode for players who like to challenge other fellow truckers both in online and hotseat modes, a vast and exciting campaign, different AI personalities to play against, if your friends are busy trucking solo, and many achievements and challenges to beat. The Steam edition of the game already includes the expansion Alien Technologies. The game's Steam release will occur on March 7 and will normally cost $10. It will be on sale the first week, however, for 38% off that price, which is a steal.
We'll try to remind you when the day comes so you can pick it up on the cheap. Or you can go buy it on mobile and start playing today. It's worth it.

Legends of Andor: The King's Secret released for iOS/Android
I've owned the cardboard version of Legends of Andor back when it was a Fantasy Flight Games property. Like much of my catalog, I owned it but never played it. After looking at the rules and such, realized it would never hit the table with my group and, therefore, went on the auction block. With my current love of solo games, I direly wished I would have kept it, but what're you going to do?
Play it digitally, that's what! That's right, today United Soft Media (USM) released a digital version of LoA with the subtitle "The King's Secret" for both iOS Universal and Android.
Now, you might be asking if this is the same game as what you'd find at your local FLGS. I wish I could tell you. The subtitle tells me that it's a different story than the boxed version, but the trailer sure looks like it's taken the board game rules to heart. Having not played the boxed version, I'm at a loss, but I'm hoping someone who has played both can fill us in in the comments. Until then, blurb:USM wrote:This epic fantasy adventure takes you to a fantastic kingdom full of magical creatures and brave heroes.Sounds good, no? Even if it's not a carbon copy of the board game the production values here are top notch. Take a look at the short trailer and then head over to the App Store of your choice via the links below:
