Alien Frontiers Releasing in September
Owen at Pockettactics has posted a story indicating that the long-coming, kickstarter project Alien Frontiers for iOS iPad is nearly here! The game is currently in late-stage beta and will have AI for solo play as well as pass-and-play multiplayer. From the story, asynchronous multiplayer doesn't sound like it's part of the package. We'll post when the app is released.

Real Racing 3 Brings Asynchronous Multiplayer to Racing
In case you missed the Apple Event yesterday where they unveiled the upcoming iPhone 5 (see here for details), they demonstrated Real Racing 3 from Firemonkeys. While the demonstration was meant to highlight the graphics capability of the new hardware, they also mentioned something they are calling 'time-shifting'. We boardgamers know it by the term asynchronous multiplayer. So, you can challenge friends to a race and then they can compete with you at a later time. I think it is interesting to see genres not usually associated with turn-based gameplay shifting that way due to the nature of 'casual' gaming with mobile devices. I'm not sure this is the first racing game to attempt this, but it is clearly the most high profile release to give it a go.
MechWarrior Tactical Command coming on Sept. 27
Personae Studios announced that MechWarrior: Tactical Command will be releasing for iOS iPad in 2 weeks. This is a tactical game set in the BattleTech universe. The developers have stated they are "staying close to the original mechanics of the BattleTech board game in order to appeal to both newcomers and fans of the MechWarrior series alike". It appears that the game will have a single player mode with a campaign, but there is no mention of multiplayer in the press release.
Promo codes available for new 'Reversi' style game
BGG user mightysteed created a post where they are offering promo codes for their new game that gives a "social twist" to Reversi. It sounds like Reversi that you can play with Facebook friends or email contacts. If you're interested in a code, go post in his thread.
Eclipse is still being worked on
Just to frustrate readers annoyed with our posting of Infinity Blade: Dungeons and the no news relating to its release, here's more for you! Never say we don't care! Brad talked with the fine folks at Big Daddy's Creations on their progress with the iOS version of Eclipse. The official response? "Nothing except we're still working on it." So there!

Wednesday nights tend to be "BIG RELEASE NIGHT" for iOS games as the games get released in New Zealand and then spread through the Apple servers through the night. These releases usually hit the US at around 11pm Eastern Time. This will be something I'll try to put together every Wednesday and I'll focus on boardgaming (or at least turn-based) titles. That said, I may throw out a few other big releases that might be happening that week.
Before we get into any releases happening tonight, we will mention an older one that we neglected to mention previously:
App Releases
Demons vs. Wizards - Magic Card & Dice Game
Released on 09/05/2012 for iPad only, this card and dice based game bills itself as a game played in taverns in fantasy settings, where magic at the tavern was outlawed. It is a 5=10 minute turn-based card and dice game with a heavy fantasy theme added. There is an AI, so solo play is supported. Also, there is a 'tabletop' version where two players can play against each other on the same device. The icon has a d20 pictured, so that has to be worth something, right? Check it out on the app store.Guardian Cross
We mentioned this Square Enix card-based RPG a few weeks back and now it has appeared in the app store. It appears to have some sort of free to play model. We will certainly take a closer look and let you know our impressions. You can get it on the App Store
Fortune City
Releasing tonight for iOS Universal, this looks to be a roll-and-move game similar to Life where you can build houses, make money on stocks, or have hilarious events that happen to you, such as being robbed. Ho! Ho! I'd tell you to get more info on the App Store, but there isn't much there. Well, you can look at pictures, anyway.
Infinity Blade: Dungeons finally releasing?
Infinity Blade: Dungeons was originally revealed at the March 2012 event where the new iPad was introduced. Since then, however, there has been relatively little heard about the project. Rumors are circulating that today is the day, and it's being released to coincide with the announcement of the iPhone 5. Also prompting speculation is the price cut on both Infinity Blade and Infinity Blade 2. We'll see. You can find both Infinity Blade and Infinity Blade 2 on the App Store now.
UPDATE:Epic Games just confirmed on their forums that there is no news right now about IB: Dungeons. Looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer for this one.
Fieldrunners 2 HD
Fieldrunners 2 is a really fun and polished tower defense game for iOS iPhone and the sequel to the popular Fieldrunners (go figure). Well, instead of offering a Universal Update for that game, Subatomic Studios is releasing an iPad only version of Fieldrunners 2 tonight. The price in NZ is $10.99NZD, which should be $7.99USD. Forsuckerscustomers (like me) who already bought the iPhone version, $7.99 might be a bit much (although they do promise some iPad only features, like new towers). For those who waited, however, it will be waiting for you tonight around 11pm Eastern time.Zombicide Companion App
The companion app for Zombicide has been released. It looks to feature many helpful tools to assist in playing Zombicide.
You can check it out on iTunes
