Miniature Games Construction Yard

In this blog I'll talk about various miniature games. Custom miniatures and minor conversions are my favorite pastime. I'll cover scenery making and painting too. The WIP you'll see here is all about Necromunda, Epic 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition, Warmaster and Warhammer 40K 3rd Edition.

Work in progress. Can you guess which G.I. Joe's following 28mm mini's will represent?

Lady Jaye

From gallery of toco

Again, a HeroClix was the basis for my 28mm version of GI Jaye. The backpack with spears is from another Clix mini. The machinegun is a metal bit from Hasslefree Miniatures.

I repainted her blonde hair with brown and added a little cleavage with skintone. The green suit makes the mini recognizable as Lady Jaye, the kick-ass Joe girl!

From gallery of toco

While I didn't see Lady Jaye wearing a cap in the cartoon series, her toy figure had one. That's why I opted to use a miniature with a cap too.

The advertisement picture above is from a Belgian G.I. Joe brochure depicting the famous Stormshadow and the popular, but slightly bizar Croc Master. This diorama never left my mind ever since first seeing it in 1991.

So here they are in 28mm version! The famous 80's ninja Stormshadow and the odd GI Joe samurai Budo.

Both are repainted HeroClix miniatures, with a new arm for Stormshadow. The bow-arm originates from a Warhammer Wood Elf.

Now I heard rumours that WizKids (I) has acquired the license to produce GI Joe miniatures. So here's hoping they will publish official GI Joe HeroClix soon. It will render my custom work obsolete... but it has been cool so far.

G.I. Joe - Scarlett

From gallery of toco

To represent Scarlett's crossbow I cut of the barrel of the pistol this HeroClix miniature was holding. The arrow and limb are one plastic part. I scavenged this from a Warhammer 40,000 idol of Chaos which is a pointed star in a circle. By simply cutting off 1 dart and the curved parts I achieved the finishing touch for her crossbow.

From gallery of toco

The original miniature had black hair a was wearing a green catsuit. (Viper.) Repainting her made it a perfect look-alike of Scarlett's cartoon series character.

A G.I. Joe 28mm army without Snake-Eyes? Impossible!
So here I'll show you the mini's you've been waiting for

From gallery of toco

This HeroClix miniature was just perfect. All I had to do was add his hallmark visor and paint his Arashikage tattoo on his arm.

From gallery of toco

His visor is a piece of cardboard, slightly folded. I glued a tiny round plastic stud on each end. Then painted it with chainmail-silver.
I added a couple of small waistbags and a grenade from WH 40K too.

... ah yes, I promised to show Scarlett too, didn't I ...
OK, well now that we're all overexited about Snake-Eyes, I'll show his lady in a following blogpost. Stay tuned!

    Dreadnock: Road Pig

    External image

The feature that really distinguishes Road Pig is his improvised weapon: a cement brick on a steel rod. I found one of these cement bricks on one of the HeroClix miniatures (Marvel HeroClix Avengers #16 Luke Cage).

I combined his hallmark bludgeon with a Mage Knight miniature. There was only one problem: the size. This mini is too small for 28mm battles. And certainly when it has to represent one of the biggest and baddest Dreadnocks!

    From gallery of toco

My solution was to add him on an elevated base. His head is now on a higher level than the other miniatures, so this trompe-l'oeil is effective to make him look big.

My 28mm version of this Cobra instructor is a simple repaint of a rebased HeroClix miniature.

While his garments are not exactly the same, by using the correct colors for the paintjob I achieved a very good result.

The exterior of the buildings in my model Adriatic town will be applied using paint and sand. However, for the interior, I want to avoid such an easy solution.

On a certain evening when drinking tea I spotted this awesome pattern on the inside of a Lipton box for tea bags. After some more sips I collected the cardboard boxes and stashed them away in my scenery bitbox.

Now's the time to apply this wonderful wallpaper!

The houses in my Adriatic town are under construction. Recently I received an advertisement brochure for ceramic tiles and wooden floors in my mailbox. One of the pages had a large picture of a wooden floor, with a scale perfectly for 28mm buildings...

    From gallery of tocoking

Scissors and glue delivered a great result! I also started working on wallpaper. More to show soon...

    Snowjob

    From gallery of toco

Snowjob is based on a HeroClix miniature with a GW backpack glued to his back. The paintjob was easy: white basecoat. Grey wash.

I made his ski's from sturdy plasticard. (A base from Star Wars Pocketmodels to be precise.) The fact that he's not wearing the ski's makes the miniature more useful for urban battles or snowless terrain gaming tables.

    From gallery of toco

Yes, I know, the slottabases on my custom 28mm G.I. Joe's are not finished. I plan to paint them all black. That way I can use them on any surface. A prefer neutral colors on the bases.
