Gaming for a living

When one designs and published board games for a living, one tends to rant a lot about it. This is where we do that, the folks involved with Board & Dice and our special friends and supporters. We'll post here our ideas about gaming, about life, about gaming more often than not, about the specific challenges of making a business out of a hobby and... did we mention games?

Hi everyone,

I would like to run by the Board Game Geek community an idea which is haunting me for the past three years.

Since 2011 when NSKN Games came to life, I found it very difficult to find any information which would give me at least some clues on what to pay attention to when publishing your first game. I am not talking here about the game mechanics or graphics, but simply production and manufacturing. I have a feeling that the whole industry treats this information as a big secret. As is "we cannot let people know because what if they start making their own games without much hassle and thus we will have more competition".

I would like to change this by making a vlog (video blog) about board games publishing anatomy. To be more precise, I could make short videos which would cover (for the beginning) manufacturing and publishing topics such as:
1. what to pay attention to when designing your games - components
2. how to prepare your punch boards when you design is still in its early stages
3. how to make your punch boards and die cuts cost effective
4. types of cardboard and varnishing used in board games
5. difference in quality and price between playing cards

Of course the videos will be in a "common" language explaining all the terms as 'die cuts' or 'varnish'

I know this is a peculiar topic, therefore I need your feedback. Maybe it is just my opinion that this information would help, maybe this is already common knowledge and I live simply in the middle ages. Please prove me wrong, and let me know if this would bring some change.

The main question is: Is there need for a board game publishing anatomy blog and why?

Of course I would use NSKN Games products as this way I am safe from any legal complications. I would love to tell you about the production of Exodus, which was the most complicated project of ours to date.

Thanks,
Agnieszka
