Games, games and more games!
We started with a 3 player Jet Set, which Sami won by miles as he was the only one to finish his long ticket – as soon as the vacation card came out – and Colin and I could only get 8 points each in the remaining time – didn’t really compare to his 20!! Next Sami chose Grab, and as usual Colin won. I was particularly terrible at it! Then we played a couple of fillers while waiting for Marion. First was Bloody Legacy, where I seemed to get all the yellow cards, while Sami managed the whole game only seeing two – as you can imagine he didn’t last long. Then Olé!, which has been on the trade pile for ages but not actually traded – which I don’t mind, as I actually really enjoy this game, it’s Sami who doesn’t, and was reminded how much fun it was with this game.
Marion arrived in the middle of Ole, and asked to play Age of Steam, which she hadn’t tried, but had heard lots about and seen in board games shops. We played on the original map, to keep things simple. I started in the west, Sami in the north east, and Marion and Colin down south. Marion and I built before Colin on the second turn, and left him without many options, which forced him up north to the cubes I thought were mine for the mid-game. We spent the rest of the game jockeying for position in that area, while Sami happily took last position every turn, and had very little competition for his cubes at all, although Marion did try her best. Despite that it was actually surprisingly close at end game, with only a few points between us all.
Next up was Acquire. There were lots of mergers early game which kept the money flowing for a while, but eventually first Marion and Colin ran out, and Marion in particular was out of money for a long while. However, both were in the chain that was slowly taking over the world and getting huge, and the game ended before a lot of the mergers happened.
After that was Winner's Circle, which was also new to Marion. I had a disaster with all my bets, especially as the one time I didn’t bet on Earl Grey (I always bet on Earl Grey) was the one time it won – grrr!!! We finished with a couple of hands of Weed!.
